bumbling ranch hand played by JeffersonWhite in the Paramount Network Western“Yellowstone.”Kevin Costner, who plays family patri-

arch and ranch owner John Dutton, laughs as he recalls a scene in Season 1where Jimmy is duct-taped into the sad-dle of a bucking horse they’re trying tobreak.“He’s a person that needs a second

chance and he gets a lot of tough love,”he says, “Actually, he’s kind of almostlike a pet that ... if something doesn’t eatyou and you’re still here a year later,we’ll let you come inside.”As the new season gets underway

Wednesday, June 19, the battles continuefor Dutton, his family and workers atMontana’s Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, the largest contiguous ranch in the lower48 states. The biggest threat comes fromRainwater (Gil Birmingham), the chief ofthe nearby reservation, who moves for-ward with his plan to acquire land andbuild a casino and resort on land border-ing the ranch. But John’s daughter Beth(Kelly Reilly) wheels and deals in an ef-fort to ensure that can’t happen.Meanwhile, son Jamie’s (Wes Bentley)

resistance when John and Beth recruit anoutsider (Kelly Rohrbach, “Baywatch”)to go against him, daughter-in-law Mon-ica (Kelsey Asbille) gets a new job at theuniversity, and John receives some unex-pected health news.As for Rip Wheeler, the ranch foreman

played by Cole Hauser, he gets a distress-ing request from John regarding Kayce(Luke Grimes) that sends him into thearms of Beth, herself a tortured soul whorediscovers sobriety this season.“Season 2 for her and I, I’d say that’s a

big one — it’s our relationship,” Hauserexplains. “... And Kelly and I love playingthese two characters. So you know, there’s a lot more of getting into the heartand crux of their relationship. And with-out giving a lot away, it’s a beautiful sto-ryline this year.”Reilly agrees.“We meet Beth and Rip in flashback

when they first meet when they’re like14-15 years old as kids,” the British ac-tress explains, “and it’s really beautifulexplorations of these two characters andtheir history. And (writer/creator) TaylorSheridan does a really great job of explor-ing a little bit more of Beth’s heart in thisseason. There’s still Beth as we know herbut we’re now getting into some greatlayering, which is really nice for me as anactor to sort of develop her and grow withher and deepen her. ... It’s a very excitingseason.”

still looks impressive.Q: Is it true that Melissa McCarthy is re-placing Steve Harvey as the host of “LittleBig Shots”? — Alice Main, Farmington,Mo.A: It is. From various accounts, even NBChas seemed surprised that the recent Oscarnominee (for “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”)accepted the pitch to join the showcase foryoung talents on a weekly basis ... a stintthat will begin next season. We have to think that a big factor for Mc-Carthy was the involvement of Ellen De-Generes, who’s an executive producer of theshow and always has displayed a real kin-ship with McCarthy. Thus, despite the lat-ter’s busy moviemaking schedule that ofteninvolves her writing her own projects, thisis a done deal.Q: Since she was a contestant on “Ameri-can Idol,” why doesn’t Katie Stevens singmore on “The Bold Type”? — Cindy Har-ris, Andover, Conn.A: From a creative standpoint, it’s not reallypart of the makeup of her magazine-writercharacter Jane on the Freeform series.Stevens has told us she’s happy to focusprincipally on nonmusical acting in the role, but she adds that she’s pleased whenever theshow affords her chance to give her croon-ing a workout, as when Jane and close palsKat and Sutton (Aisha Dee, Meghann Fahy)go to a karaoke bar or something alongthose lines. There will be more chances forthat, since the drama has been renewed fora fourth season.

JEMMA PAWN COMPANYWho is Jemma Pawn Company

and what do they have to offer you?Brian Markey the owner of JemmaPawn Company, established his busi-ness in 1986. This business hasgrown as a premiere loan represen-tative and is officially approved bythe New Jersey Department of Bank-ing. Just as Bank of America, Chaseand other recognized names in bak-ing, licensed pawn brokers are regu-lated by The New Jersey Departmentof Banking. As many contemporaryAmericans have found out during therecession, a crisis that affected a largepercentage of the population in theearly 80’s, pawnbrokers can and willhelp you. Pawn broking is a stable in-stitution in time of financial stressand misfortune, lack of sufficientfunds to open a small business orloss of a regular dependable income. The records show many peopleturned down by the banks werehelped by a reputable pawnbrokerand are now back on their feet againbecause of their timely decision to in-vestigate the opportunities thatJemma offers you.

Pawn broking, is a professionoften branded unfairly by gossip andsensationalized movie plots, and thispawnbroker wants to set the recordstraight. Jemma Pawn Company hasa 95% redemption rate! What doesthat mean? It is a verification that theitem or items people bring to them ascollateral on their loan are redeemedby the customer prior to the loans ex-piration date. There are no creditchecks and no application form tofill out. Jemma offers you same dayservice. An example of their excel-lence service could be: you bring ina Rolex watch worth $20,000 topawn and you need $7,000 - you willhave same day service. Yes, you willwalk out with seven thousand dol-lars, cash in hand. And you will nothave to wait weeks worrying if youhave qualified.

Jemma Pawnbrokers follow the

tradition of an ancient professiongoing back 3,000 years to China andancient Greece and Rome. Poor peo-ple would come to the pawn brokersand find them a ready source of

money to help them out during timesof failed crops, bad weather, etc. Bet-ter still, the government kept theirfinger on the pulse of the professionby setting limits to interest chargedand guaranteeing the pawned prop-erty would be available to the cus-tomer till the redemption of the loan, which usually extended to threeyears. Jemma Pawn Company willreturn the original item of collateralto its owner provided they are faith-ful in paying back their loan, plus anyincurred interest till the obligation istotally met. And to reiterate, 95% ofall Jemma clientele, pay back theirloans in the stipulated period!

Rest assured, there is no shame inpawning items. You will find you arein good company when you checkthe records. Pope Leo X, in 1515gave his official seal of approval topawnbrokers. The Pope pawned hisown furniture and jewelry to supporthis love of the arts and Michelan-gelo’s Sistine ceiling is but one of theresults of the Pope’s support.

Many people ask: What do those

three balls signify outside pawnshops? There is a heart-warmingstory about the familiar insigniaabove the pawn shop establishments(the three golden balls). This tradition

is generally attributed to Saint Nico-las who stopped a man on his way togive his three daughters as collateralof a debt he incurred. The saint con-vinced the man to substitute threebags of gold in place of his daughtersand generously gave him the gold -immediately.

So hopefully we have answeredsome of the frequently asked ques-tions and addressed any fears con-cerning dealing with a pawnbroker!Come in and visit Jemma Pawn.Brian has a staff of seasoned and pro-fessionally trained individuals whohave specialties in jewelry, which in-clude a great selection of watches. Also, antiques, musical instruments,as well as gold, silver and platinumare here. No seedy characters behindthe counters! Jemma Pawn Com-pany is covered by the New JerseyBanking Law.

Hours of operation are fivedays a week. Monday, Tuesday,Thursday, Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.Closed Wednesdays and Sundays.

HOLLYWOODBy Tony RizzoHOLLYWOOD — The “Me Too” movement has fi-nally caught up with Woody Allen. The first cluecame when Woody started shopping his memoiraround to publishers and found that no one wouldtouch it. His latest film, “A Rainy Day in NewYork,” starring Timothee Chalamet, Elle Fanning,Selena Gomez, Jude Law, Diego Luna and LievSchreiber has been dropped byAmazon, which was to distribute itin the U.S. and internationally. Ap-parently, American theatersweren’t keen to show a WoodyAllen film.“A Rainy Day in New York” willnow open Oct. 3 in Italy, hoping forgreat reviews in Europe to helpconvince greedy theater owners tochange their minds. Allegedly,Greta Gerwig, Colin Firth, EllenPage, Michael Caine and TimotheeChalamet are at the top of a list ofactors who say they’ll never work with Woodyagain. But Kevin Spacey is very available.

tastytv by George DickieFamily dynamics are front and

center of ABC’s ‘Family Food Fight’It is said that there is nothing like a good meal to bring a family together.

But preparing it together can get interesting. And that family dynamic is on display in the ABC culinary competition

series “Family Food Fight.” Premiering Thursday, June 20, the hourlongepisodes pit family teams against each other as they trot out their best skillsand secret family recipes to prepare dishes for a panel of judges consistingof chefs, restaurateurs and cookbook authors Ayesha Curry, Cat Cora andGordon Elliot. The winning clan gets the title of America’s No. 1 Food Familyand a $100,000 grand prize.Curry, who is also the show’s host and an executive producer, says it was

fascinating watching the family dynamic in action, especially with the pres-sure of competition added in.“The coolest part to me was that they were all the same,” she observes.

“Like you could find similarities in each of the families that you could con-nect your own family to and I thought that that was really special and it’ssort of why I wanted to do this show. I feel like just with our social climateright now, I was really excited to spearhead a show that showed a meltingpot of people and to show that every family is just like the other family inone way or another.”Especially, she explains, when personalities clash.“Every family is going to have their little tiffs or arguments,” Curry, the

wife of NBA point guard Stephen Curry, says, “and at the end of the day italways seems that everybody comes together for the greater good of thecause. And no matter where you fall in the competition ... you always comeout on top learning something about each other and growing as a family.”As for the quality of the dishes, Curry says everything was first-rate. While

all these contestants are amateurs, their skills, creativity and outside-the-box thinking wowed the judges and had them inquiring about their tech-niques.

“The one thingI was shockedthat everybodybrought to thetable was flavor,”Curry says. “Youknow, spice-heavy, flavor-for-ward. You couldtell just from usjudging, every-body had a reallygood palate andso their disheswere composedwell. ... Youknow, Cat Coraand Graham El-liot, even theywere swept o oftheir feet ... andwe were sur-prised time andtime again. Andso they evenlearned newmethods thatthey figuredwould never work but somehow would come together so beautifully.“And so I felt like it was a learning process for everyone,” she continues.

“There’s no one way to do things and I love that’s also the message theshow sends: There’s so many different paths you can take to greatnessand to getting the job done.”

“Endeavour on Masterpiece,” which be-gins its sixth PBS round Sunday, June 16(check local listings). Evans also directs“Apollo,” the second of the prequel’s fournew episodes — which begin with“Pylon,” taking newly mustachioed En-

deavour Morse onto a differentlate-1960s beat and back to the cityof Oxford to probe a student’s mur-der. Others believe they have thelikeliest suspect, but Endeavourdoesn’t agree. While he’s comfortable with his

approach to the role, Evans main-tains he always has been. Express-ing respect for the initial “InspectorMorse” tales, he adds, “You goyour own way and do your ownthing. Also, I think I’m just confi-dent enough as an actor to be like,‘Well, that’s the job.’ I wasn’t wait-ing for someone to either accept ornot accept it.”Evans enjoyed being an “Endeav-

our” director, reasoning that “whilstthe characters are constant, each(episode) should feel different fromthe next. Every time I meet one ofthe directors coming in, I can get asense very swiftly of how it’s goingto turn out by what’s important to

them, what they laugh at, what they thinkabout the story (or) where their head is atwith the story. Which, I think, is verytelling.”“Endeavour” also features (as Dorothea

Frazil) Abigail Thaw, the daughter of thelate John Thaw, who portrayed Morse onPBS’ “Mystery!” before it was folded into“Masterpiece.” Evans reports he still has-n’t seen the Thaw episodes, “and that’spurposeful. And that’s with a hugeamount of respect, because I know theywill be brilliant when I do get around towatching them.“If there are any similarities in terms of

the character, then that needs to be borneout of the writing. I think you would beshortchanging the audience if you were tocome in and do an impression, and to startmorphing into something else.” Still,Evans stresses his appreciation of “all ofthe things that have gone prior to (‘En-deavour’), because my first port of callwas the books and the imagination. I stillwant all of that now as it draws to aclose.”However, the finale isn’t immediately

pending, especially since a seventh seasonof “Endeavour” has been ordered. Fornow, Evans voices satisfaction with hisevolution of the title part: “I would like tothink he is less of a loner, and that heknows that he’s got people who have gothis back at work ... that you can openyourself to rely upon. Perhaps that’s truefor me, too.”
