Carnosine is a naturally-occurring dipeptide that is found in both type 1 & 2 muscle fibers (sig. more in type 2 which are primarily used in high intensity workouts and are the most responsive to muscular growth). It’s composed of two amino acids (histidine & beta alanine). It helps combat both oxidative damage (as an AO) and glycation, thereby reducing inflammation and cellular aging. It is also a/w a reduction in the inflammatory marker iNOS (inducible nitric oxide synthase) and may mitigate the inflammatory effects of viral infections. Carnosine is a naturally-occurring dipeptide that is found in both type 1 & 2 muscle fibers (sig. more in type 2

which are primarily used in high intensity workouts and are the most responsive to muscular growth).

It’s composed of two amino acids (histidine & beta alanine).

It helps combat both oxidative damage (as an AO) and glycation, thereby reducing inflammation and cellular aging. It is also a/w a reduction in the inflammatory marker iNOS

(inducible nitric oxide synthase) and may mitigate the inflammatory effects of viral infections.

It’s highly concentrated in the brain and muscles (as well as the skin and other vital organs).

It‘s a natural antioxidant and glycation-fighting nutrient that helps to protect tissue from

oxidation and protein degradation among other things.

Carnosine levels decline with age. Muscle levels decline by 63% between 10 & 70 years of age.

Studies demonstrate that it extends the life span of laboratory animals.

This is believed to be largely due to carnosine’s ability to protect telomere length.

Carnosine acts as an AO, as well as a pH buffer, thereby protecting muscle cell membranes from

oxidative damage d/t muscular exertion.

Muscle levels of carnosine correlate with max life span of all animal species tested. Of

course this is simply a correlation at this point and is not claimed to be the cause.

It enables heart muscle to contract more

efficiently via enhanced calcium response.

Shown to rejuvenate CT and support wound healing. Believed to be related to its ability to reduce

accumulation of damaged, cross-linked proteins . Carnosine is the most promising broad spectrum shield

against protein degradation yet discovered.

One of its functions is to act as an pH buffer which helps to increase time to exhaustion due to accumulation of acids

associated with intense exercise. Most importantly, it works inside the cell so it is the first line of defense with regard to buffering

increased acid production.

Beta-Alanine is the only beta-amino acid known, it is a non-proteinogenic AA as it is

not used in the building of proteins.

Primary dietary sources are via the dipeptides in chicken, beef, pork, and fish. It’s synthesized in the liver &/or derived from the breakdown of specific

ingested dipeptides.

Studies support that Beta Alanine helps to: - Boost explosive muscular strength and power output;

- Increase muscle mass; - Boost muscular anaerobic endurance;

- Increase aerobic endurance;

Plus, It increases exercise capacity (allowing one to train harder and longer). This is believed to be

primarily related to its ability to boost carnosine levels which acts as a pH buffer.

Exercising muscle uses a great deal of energy from glucose and glycogen via the glycolosis pathway which produces

lactic acid as a by-product. The lactic acid gives off hydrogen ions (H+) which create an acidic

environment hampering muscle function & performance.

Beta-Alanine supplementation is the most effective way to boost cellular concentrations of L-carnosine.

Studies show increased carnosine of 42-65% in just 4 weeks; after 10-12 weeks up to 80%.

That is a huge increased buffering capacity!

All of that should make it abundantly clear why we’ve included L-carnosine

and Beta-Alanine in our Paleo Proteins Perfected line of products.
