    Research Interests.

My research interests include all aspects of Gastro Intestinal Surgery with

emphasis on Hepato-pancreaticoBillary surgery and Gastrointestinal

Endoscopy. My training in Glasgow has helped me further my research

interests in Theraputic Endoscopy. I have published papers involving

Endoscopic arrest of non-variceal bleeding and variceal banding and

cynoacrylate glue injection. I have also published papers on

Pulsionendosprothesis placement in cases of advanced carcinoma of the

oesophagus. I have set up the facility of minimal invasive surgery especially

Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy and Laparascopic Appendectomy and now

carry out other minimal invasive surgery procedures especially Laparascopic

Colectomies, Abdomino-perineal resections adhesiolysis and assisted

    laparascopic biliary bypass procedures.

I have tried to improve the care of patients at Kenyatta National Hospital and

improve the level of training of Senior House Officers in surgery so as to

keep them abreast with procedures practiced in rest of the world.

With a view to improving Gastro-intestinal Endoscopy training, have

assisted in setting up an endoscopy training unit at the PCEA hospital,

Kikuyu and the M.P. Shah hospital, Nairobi, and run training courses, in

addition to training surgeons in Endoscopy at the Kenyatta National

    Hospital.

Recognising the need to train and accredit more surgeons, I have been a

founder member of the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern

Africa. The primary aim has been to improve the care of surgical patients at

the rural level in Kenya and the neighbouring countries in the region.

With my interest in Examinations, I have organized 4 seminars in 4 regional

countries, to improve examiner performances and produced guidelines on

    objective Clinical and Viva examinations.

Recent interests include innovation of methods of training the present day

    doctors in Surgery.

Have worked on introducing Modular training for learning the theory of

Basic Surgical Sciences, Essential, and Emergency Surgery and also

encouraged and supported the setting up of Skills labs at each of the

    accredited hospitals in Kenya.
