The God of Small Thing Arundhati's novel booker prize winner 1997 National film award for best screen play in 1989. 2002 Lannan Foundation's culture freedome

award 2003 awarded “ special recognition” as a women

of peace. Awarded the Sydney Peace Prize in may 2004-

social campaigns. 2006 Awarded Sahitya Akademi Award from

Indian Academy of letters. 2011 , awarded the norman mailer prize of

distinguished writing . 2015, returned the national awaded – against

religion intolerance.

About Midnight's children At midnight on aug 15, 1947

Two boys are born in a Bombay hospital,

Where they are switched by a nurse.

Around that time thousand children were born ,

They are midnigh children .

Saleem the narrator of the novel.

Mary Pereira – midwife at the clinic ,

Sees chance to impress her revolutionary lover and switches the name tage on the two baskets .

Amina and Ahmed with childe saleem narrator, while their true child shiva is raised in the slums by a poor singer.

About The God of Small Things:-

This novel set in the Kerala in the 1960s .

It is a story about the childhood experiences of faternal twins whose lives are distroyes by the “love laws”.

This is novel about the two children , Estha anf Rahel.

In magical and poetic language , the novel paints a vivid picture of life in a small rural indian town .

The thoughts and feelings of the two small children , and the complexcity and hipocrisy of the adults in their world.

Facts of Kerala life captured by the novel are Communisim, the caste system ,Keralite Syrian Christian.

Theme of Midnight's children THEME OF TIME :-

- Midnight's children is definitely a time warp.

- Time goes forwards and backwards , up and down ,slantways and sideways .

- The story only follows the linear narrative for moments at that time .

THEME OF FAMILY :-

- Families have gotten pretty non – traditional nowadays , but non traditional as in midnights children.

- here childrens get a switch at birth , parents are created by the children.

- Idea of family is pretty malleable in the novel, but doesnt make it any less important to the characters.

- this novel is the more anything else a novel about the family .it explore the relationship.

- Family relstionship in the novel complecated , confusing, and fustrating .

- The charactes in the novel are constantly coming up against the force of society and class

THEMES OF THE VERSIONS OF REALITY :-

- Through out the novel we get see how things look from different characters point of view – diffrent version of the same reality. Estha and rahel at two very diffrents points in their lives.
