Dear Robison Families:How time flies! We are already half-way through the first quarter of this exciting school year! (Quarter 1 ends 10/11, Report cards distributed 10/24)Our teachers are working hard in preparing students to be ready for our WIDA (for second language learners in January) assessment and SBAC in March. Our students are improving their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills during HALO intervention period for 30 minutes Tuesday through Thursday each week. We are emphasizing reading and writing in every classroom each week—including performing and visual arts!Our Open House was an enormous success! Thank you to all our parents and guardians who attended. Our teachers had classrooms decorated with student work and even had some parents work out some math tangram problems with their kiddosAfterschool clubs and activities are now underway. We have the late bus Tuesday through Friday afternoons. We now offer Yoga Club and Flag Football for boys and girls among many of our afterschool activities. Check out the daily announcements for more information!We will have our first House party with the house earning the most HALO bucks for the 1st quarter in mid-October. Students will enjoy hot dogs and other snacks in the cafeteria while being rewarded for their positive behaviors on campus.A fall performing arts concert will be here on Wednesday 5:30pm October 30th (around Halloween!)—we hope to see you soon at band or orchestra or choir (new!) night to listen to the beautiful notes and music!Know that you are invited monthly to our Parent meetings—we hold them at 7 am and at 2:15 pm on the same day. Estimadas familias de Robison:¡Cómo pasa el tiempo! ¡Ya estamos a la mitad del primer trimestre de este emocionante año escolar! (El trimestre 1 termina el 10/11, los reportes de calificaciones se distribuyen el 10/24)Nuestros maestros están trabajando arduamente para preparar a los estudiantes para que estén listos para nuestra evaluación WIDA (para estudiantes de segundo idioma en enero) y SBAC en marzo. Nuestros estudiantes están mejorando sus habilidades de lectura, escritura, conversación y comprensión auditiva durante el período de intervención de clase de HALO durante 30 minutos de martes a jueves cada semana. INTRODUCING FORENSIC SCIENCE WITH MS. E. HALL!A Forensic Scientist needs to use all of their senses in order to solve crimes. We have discussed the importance of using sight and hearing to solve crimes. To this end, students used their observation and audio skills as they watched videos on the importance of Eyewitness Testimony.Some student responses to what they learned about Eyewitness Testimony are below:

• “Eyewitness testimony is when a person is a witness to a crime and can tell police. I also learned that the brain can trick you into thinking you saw something else.”

• “Eyewitness testimony does not always help police because other people see different things. Some people might be wrong.”

• “I learned that your mind can play tricks on you. “I also learned that you won’t always see what you thought you saw.”

• “Your brain plays tricks on you to fill the gaps.”

• “Eyewitness testimony is and is not valuable.”

• “Our brain can trick us into hearing or seeing an action or statement and that eyewitness testimony can be right and wrong.”

Hemos discutido la importancia de usar la vista y el oído para resolver crímenes. INTRODUCING MS. HERNANDEZ, OUR NEW CHOIR DIRECTOR!My name is Mrs. Hernandez and I am the new Robison Middle School Choir Teacher. I have two kids, Analiese, (14), and Bronson (11). My husband is a software developer and works for CCSD as a computer tech. I am originally from a small town in Nebraska and am a proud Cornhusker fan. You will find me spending Saturdays this fall watching college football and cheering on the Huskers. My master’s degree is in piano performance. My original life plans were to attend Peabody Conservatory to study accompanying and vocal coaching so I could coach professional singers on Broadway. But…..I am happy to say that life took me in a different direction and I am very pleased to be working with the staff and students at Robison Middle School. Thank you for including me in the Robison Family! I am blessed to be here and look forward to the 2019/2020 school year at Robison Middle School!!!!! Go Angels!!!!! Mrs. Hernandez

Here at Robison Middle School, our social worker can assist the students by:

• Helping students transition

• Checking in on the students regularly

• Having individual support meetings

• Leading mental health groups to teach kids new skillsAs the students begin the new school year, the school social worker encourages the parents to limit their kids’ screen time, ensure they get enough rest and reach out to the school if there are any difficulties or a need for resources.

(Zipper preferred)• Dividers for each class• Lined Paper (200 sheets)• Pencil pouch, pencils and pens• 6 spiral notebooks or

composition books• 2 two-pocket folder for math classSpiral notebooks may need to be replaced each quarter. See your content area teacher for more information. (content teachers will let you know which is required)Each student will be assigned a locker.
