Our Beacon Light
Success comes to those who work hard and stays with those, who don’t rest on the laurels of the past." We live today in a world that is so very different from the one we grew up in, the one we were educated in. The world today is changing at such an accelerated rate and we as educators need to pause and reflect on this entire system of Education. In the words of Oscar Wilde, “The aim of life is self development to
realize one’s nature perfectly.” Over the years as a teacher I have
realized that if the fertile soil of the mind is enriched with the
values of love, kindness and patience the sapling of good education
and character will grow into strong trees and bear good fruits.
Quality education is the only way to national development, survival
and contributing a better world order. The system of education
gets changed and modified with the changing needs and
aspirations of the society. Our Indian system of education has a solid foundation. It incorporates
relevant content and introduces innovations in methodology in keeping with the global needs and
identifying the unique nature of each learner. Realising the significance of creative and independent
thinking ability, child centered and activity based process has been the tradition of The Srijan School.
Good education is a process of developing human personality in all its dimensions-intellectual, physical,
social, moral and spiritual-and this can be achieved Only through the collective effort Of Parents,
Teachers and Students.
Individually and collectively ,let’s work to serve the cause of education , for the betterment of the
coming generation so that they live in the world where “ knowledge is free and the head is held high”;
where” the world has not broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls” and “ the clear stream
of reasoning has lost its way” Let our children grow as a world class citizens- a generation of eminent
thinkers and wise planners contributing to better world order. That exactly is our desire; and our dream.
Each issue of our school magazine is a milestone that marks our growth, unfolds our imaginations, and gives life to our thoughts and aspirations. It unleashes a wide spectrum of creative skills ranging from writing to editing and even in designing the magazine. I congratulate the entire editorial team for their hard work and dedication in making this dream come true. With Best Wishes Vincent Ashish Moses

Message from
Jr. School Head
Children are intelligent: they are not yet covered by the layers of dust, they have the freedom, the innocence and the joy of being. Innocence, joy, fervour, vitality and unlimited creative urge devoid of all worry is what childhood is all about. They act moment to moment. Life is a succession of moments, with each energized day bearing its own gifts. They say each child has made a leap from the crib to the classroom. While it takes time for each child to adjust in this transition period, the role of the school becomes multifold. A warm, amiable and secure environment greets each pupil as he or she enters The Srijan School. It is always our earnest endeavour to provide our students with sufficient fields & facilities, thoughts and activities, environment & opportunities, inspiration & guidance for a steady all encompassing growth: physical, intellectual, spiritual &
aesthetic. Modern pedagogical practices, state of the art infrastructure, a well qualified and highly motivated staff make the teaching – learning process an exciting and meaningful journey for the young learners as they progress from Nursery to Class V. With this firm foundation the pupils confidently march ahead to the middle school. The Srijan School family delights in seeing its students blossoming into enlightened citizens fully alive to
their responsibilities towards parents, school and society. It has been our endeavour to cater to an
activity oriented curriculum in which every student is able to blossom into a complete and well balanced
individual, both physically and mentally. Our school keeps itself abreast with the paradigm shift in the
realm of education. With their feet firmly rooted in values and traditions, the pupils stretch out their
wings to soar to the realms of the fast changing world, with their heads and hearts in the right place.
We are grateful to parents for their active cooperation and goodwill to realize the goal. My earnest
request to you is "GET CONNECTED" and thereafter "STAY CONNECTED" with the school. SUCCESS
HAPPENS ONLY WHEN PREPRATION MEETS PERFORMANCE! I would like to share with you what
Michelangelo, the famous sculptor, painter, architect and poet said, "I saw the angel in the marble and
carved until I set him free".
May our efforts to accomplish this task be fruitful. With Best Wishes Sonia Shamihoke

Student Editorial Speaks
I went head over heels for being a part of the Editorial board but then I realized being the Deputy Literary Secretary I was automatically a part of it (duh). Anyways, this being my last year of being a part of the cabinet and getting to enjoy this very post for 2 years straight, I came to realize that without the EB (and of course our teachers), the magazine is not possible. For real. The amount of time we devote towards it is insane. It might be interesting and exciting but the true meaning of being a part of the board is to be able to convince the students to come forward and express their works. But it doesn’t end there. You’ll need to run after them. It was honestly a great opportunity for me, even though it had its ups and downs, and I’d like to tell the future editors that you might be good but, come on, you can’t compete with us. Trisha Arora, XI E Deputy Literary Secretary
“Editing is like killing a story and then very slowly bringing it back to life.” I think no amount of words will ever be sufficient to express the feeling of being entitled as “the student editor”. To start with I got to work with the craziest and funniest people around (yes, we know we are the best department). This entire experience has been like a crazy roller coaster ride. We have had our share of ups and downs but what made it exciting was the bond we all had created in no time(Not to mention, the department “meetings”). Firstly, I’m thankful to each one of them for tolerating me and my mood swings. DEADLINES, DEADLINES, DEADLINES.I hate to admit this but giving deadlines was fun even though deep down inside I was smirking knowing that the magazine is not coming out anytime soon. As a matter of fact, all of us would have been healthier only if we ran on tracks the way we ran after the students for their articles. It was a perfect Tom & Jerry relationship. Each day was a new learning experience; every arti-cle that I read opened the doors to a whole new world of imagination. It was like fishing in a pond full of fish swimming deep underneath. All we had to do was to provide the bait to the students to fish out ideas from their deep pond-like minds. Synergy 2017-18 would not have been possible without the guidance of our mentors, amazing writers and a wonderful team of editors. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each one of you for making this happen. Thank You! Kaavya Singhal, XI– B Literary Secretary

This was the first time I worked for school magazine, it was undoubtedly an amazing experience. I got an opportunity to express my views and enhance my knowledge. Arushi Jain X C
Being a part of the editorial board has been a great experience. It has enhanced my way of thinking and also my creativity. We all, as the editorial board, together have given our cent percent to this magazine. brainstorming sessions which, half of the time were usually superficial, trivial, and very lame. But ultimately turned out to be splendid. Thank you team for the great support and making me feel amazing about my-self. Ishita Sehgal XI D
I feel extremely privileged and honored to be a part of 'The Editorial Board' this year. It was my wildest fantasy to have my name in the magazine( but sadly this year it’s not being printed). Yet, I would never forget this time. It taught me a whole lot of things. To be disciplined was the priority. I hope I can contribute to this beautiful piece of extreme hard work the next year as well. Ishita Jain XI E
Being a member of the Editorial Board introduced me to a different world altogether! The wonderful ideas by our young writers inspired me to expand my horizons and write more. It was one of the most enriching and interesting part of the school for me (and I secretly do hope to continue being a mem-ber). The heartbreaking part for me was to select one amongst several. I just couldn't. How could I disregard anyone's ideas when I loved them all? But then I learnt to say no, a very important lesson. But it wasn't just about enrichment or lessons, our team was hilarious and we laughed some of the greatest moments together! Most importantly, I realised its never too late to be what you could've been. Cheers to the writers, the teachers, and us! Krity Baid X-B

Never be afraid of falling while flying in the sky.

Go there at night to take some rest.

window.
If someone tries to catch me,
I would hide until they go.

Role of Parents
Parents ! Parents !
They make us happy
and sometimes even
sad.
When we misbehave,
They just go mad.
They sing for us, they dance for us,
They make sure,
We dare not miss the school bus!
They give us love, they give us care,
They teach us, how to give and share.
One moment they shout...and are very rude,
Next moment, they act funny, ...that just changes our
mood!
Adorable dad and a loving mother,
Parents are people like no one other!
Tvisha , III Chandan
Role of Parents
The importance of parents in our lives is
unquestionable. Parents play a crucial role in our
lives. They help us in every step of life. Both, father
and mother play a crucial role in our mental,
physical and social development. Parents are the
most precious gift of God to us.
Angelina Kaur, III Chinar
Role of Parents
When I feel lonely,
When I feel sad,
I think of you,
My dear mom and dad.
You taught me to smile,
You taught me to be bold,
I promise to be a good human,
When I grow old.
I love you mom,
I love you dad,
You are the best parents,
One can ever have.
Annika Dutta Sethy , III Peepal
Role of Parents The role of my parents in my life is very important. Sometimes I wish that I was a grown up so that I could do things according to my wish. But then I realise that being a parent is not an easy task. Sometimes I don't like when my father or mother gets angry at me. But then I realise that they are correct. They are always there for me, giving me courage, support and guidance to live life positively and happily. They instill values in me and guide me towards the right path. I cannot imagine a day without my parents. They make my life wonderful and happy. Vallabhi Soni , III Gulmohar

My Favourite Outing during Summer Break
During summer break, I went on a short trip
to Mussoorie. It is called 'The Queen of Hills’.
It has many beautiful spots like Lal Tibba,
Gun Hill, Kempty Falls and Company
Gardens . I saw mountain slopes covered
with tall and green trees. A cool breeze re-
freshed my mind. The bright multi-coloured
flowers, the clouds sailing across the sky and
snow covered peaks filled my heart with joy.
I felt happy being so close to nature.
Vaibhav Sabharwal, III Chandan
My Favourite Outing During Summer Break

break, I love to visit parks. Fresh air, beautiful
flowers and humming bees make me happy.
They have paths for jogging, walking and
cycling . They also have a lot of swings to
enjoy. I like to play with my friends in these
clean parks. I love spending time with my
friends and family in the park.

Conversation between Father and Newspaper
Newspaper: Good Morning! You should thank me because I give you information about the world on a
daily basis.
Father: I know! You are the best because you always give me knowledge about everything.
Newspaper: And… What do you mean by that?
Father: I mean, you give me the knowledge about politics, movies, jokes, sale, etc.
Newspaper: Do you know! There is a big Diwali sale going on? Go and check.
Father: Okay! I will check. But do not tell my family members about this or else they
will go and bring surprises for me.
Newspaper: Ha..ha..ha! And remember to keep me in the recycle bin.

My favourite outing during summer break
The summers are very hot in North India.
The schools are closed for the hot months
of May and June. These two months give
us an opportunity to visit different places
and learn about them.
This time, I enjoyed my holidays the most.
I went to Nainital with my parents and
elder brother. We stayed in a resort
named ‘Aahana’. There was a lot of greenery. On the first day, I just explored the resort as it was
very big. On the second day, early in the morning I went with my father for cycling and then for
yoga . Later, I went for the night safari. There I first saw a lot of monkeys, deers, a herd of
elephants. Luckily we got to see a tiger too. The tiger was very big and it roared at us but as we
were in the car, we drove away. It was the first time that I saw a tiger. The next day we went to
the Naini Lake, where we enjoyed boating and I saw a lot of fishes. The same night we all played
ludo in our resort. The fourth day, I went to the hill side zoo in which we saw a lot of different
animals. Then we went to an adventurous place called Cave Garden. There also I enjoyed a lot.
The last day, I helped my mother pack the bags and then we drove off to Delhi. Aftermath was
that, I enjoyed my Nainital trip a lot and returned relaxed and refreshed .
Vasavi, III Peepal
My Favourite CCA
‘’ Teach me and I will forget, show me and I will never forget.’’
My favourite CCA is reciting poems in English. I love to recite
poems in class and school assembly with rhythm, music, voice
modulation and beats. Since I recite quite often, it has helped
me in language development. I’ll try and be perfect in
recitation some day….. Who knows that I would become a
radio jockey!

My Outing During Summer Break
For kids, summer vacation means the excitement, which begins with the ringing of the last bell in the school. It is the happiest moment for us as we get a long break from the daily hectic life at school. It is a time for entertainment by getting away from the homework and taking nice trip to hometown, hill stations or other cool places. We generally plan to go to the hill stations every year to stay away from the heat of summer months. It gives me a chance to enhance my skill and knowledge in the area other than studies. We go for
morning walks in the cool air and wander on the roads which are surrounded by greenery. Summer vacations are the best days of my life as I am able to spend that time with my big, happy family. Atharva Goel, III Gulmohar
Conversation Between Living and Non living A rally car raced around the forest and the bear was worried. Let's see what they talked about. Rally car: I am hurt but I am still proud of myself because I found just one area difficult to navigate. The track went through the thick forest but still I went on. Bear: I am worried as my home, my cave was destroyed to make way for your race track. Rally car: Oh! I am sorry. Bear: I wish humans will stop this senseless cruelty and let us animals live peacefully.
Pranjal , III Amaltas
My Favourite Outing during Summer Break This summer trip was not my first trip to Goa but definitely the most memorable one. We travelled in a group of 8 – 4 kids and 4 adults. We all had lots of fun. We stayed in a society resort . We enjoyed swimming in the pool to get
some respite from the scorching heat of the sun. And when it was breezy outside, we strolled on white sand beaches and explored markets and churches. There is so much to see in Goa. We hopped from place to place in our hired SUV. The famous Royal Casino…. who says only adults enjoy there, in the kids section, I will be remembered as the boy who could play the video game for the longest duration. I enjoyed all my favourite dishes and watched Minion movie uninterrupted. We even managed a trip to Delhi Durbar and Pizza Hut. The best part of my trip was the visit to the ‘Go karting track’. Zoom zoom… went our car. When I returned, my face was all tan but I wish we had even more days to stay at Goa- the most enjoyable destination. Aditya Bansal ,III Gulmohar

Role of Parents Parents are our strength, They sow the seeds of greatness. They always train us hard, So that no one can put us apart. They scold us when we are wrong, And guide us throughout. They are the precious gifts, Whom everyone should cherish. They always think of our development, In order to increase our accomplishments. Parents, we thank you for your uncondi-tional love Don’t keep us away, be there always as our biggest support.

My School Assembly Morning assembly is a very important ritual in schools. It is an age-old culture of our country that before every new work or task, we should offer prayers to get success. Schools are like our temples. My school morning assembly is a time for self reflection. Students stand in rows in the assembly ground. We say prayers before starting the days’ work. The scene is very calm and peaceful. Important information is also given to the students during the assembly. Good thoughts, talks on great personalities, amazing facts, and quizzes are also presented weekly in our school. Some-times our Principal Sir or Sonia Ma'am also share important instructions with us. Role of Parents Parents play the biggest role in our
development. Both father and mother play an
important role in our mental, physical, social
and financial development. They help us in
every stage of our lives. They can do everything
to see a smile on our faces. They give us milk,
fruits and proper food for our physical growth.
They provide us toys that we can play with.
They allow us to play outside with our friends.
They take us to all the places they go. They
work hard day and night for our education.
They support us in our difficult times. We
should always remember their teachings and
respect them. Everything is fake, but our
parents are the real God for us.

I ASPIRE TO BE......
I wish I were a singer
Singing all day!
Singing and dancing around,
In the month of May.
I love to hear songs,
And sing them with my mom.
Singing all the day,
Be it a Sunday or a Monday.
I’m sure I’ll be a singer,
To my songs, people will snap their fingers,
Singing in front of them like a superstar,
After singing in India, I’ll take my talent to
Mars.

Role of Parents Parents play a major role in an individual’s life. They are the only ones who show unconditional love. In this civilised society, parents take great care in upbringing of their children. They help the child in overcoming his negative attributes and inefficiencies. Parents are the backbone of a child. They provide moral support and strength to tackle difficult situations of life. They are the people who console us during difficult times. Parents are very much involved in the success of children. They guide them towards the right path and make it easy for them to succeed. Without their we are incomplete. Saksham Jain, IV Alaknanda

Role of Parents
Our parents’ role is to be angry with us,
No matter what ! they will hit or slap us,
The role of our parents is no good,
We have to go through all that like a piece of wood !
Our parents’ role is to love and care,
No matter whatsoever no matter where,
But sometimes I have to think
why they change their minds everyday,
in every possible way !
What’s wrong with having snapchat accounts,
When we are doing them no wrong !
Oh ! I do think parents have no good role !
What’s wrong if I want my own phone !
Our parents get angry at everything,
everything !............everything !
Parents have no good role.
Vani ,IV Alaknanda
My School Assembly
I am always excited on Mondays and Fridays because they are
our assembly days. I always like to listen to the assembly lines
and the songs prepared by the children.
We learn many things in the assembly. Sometimes Sonia Ma’am
makes some important announcements also. The special
assembly is my favourite wherein we celebrate different
festivals like Holi, Eid, Diwali, Gurupurab, Christmas etc. On
Food Festival we have an amazing assembly which the whole
school seniors and juniors come to see.

Role of Parents
You both are special in every way,
Encouraging me more and more each passing day.
You both are the reason why I’m so strong,
With you at the helm not a thing could go wrong.
You’ve both helped me through many trials and
tribulations,
You’ve made things better in every situation
Thank you both for always being there,
And showing me that you truly care.
Words could never explain how I feel about you,
But I hope you know that I truly love you two!

Role of Parents
Parents are the unsung heroes of every person who has ever done anything great. Think about the people
that you admire the most in your life. Do you attribute any of their greatness to the people that raised
them? Often we do not even think about the fact that they are the most influential people in the making
of a person. If a person is great, remember that the greatness is not achieved in a vacuum. There were
people who sowed the seeds of greatness and these people are no one but our dear parents
Niharika Bajaj, IV Kaveri
Role of Parents Parents are the most lovable persons in every one's life. They love their children very much. Their role in our life is very significant. Parents are the ones who support their children in good and bad times. They are always there for their children to protect them from every problem. It is very important for us to share everything with them as they are the ones who can guide us in the right way. Whenever we get hurt or sick they always take care of us. Parents are next to God so we should always respect them, obey them and love them. Samaira Khurana, V Shivalik

My Favourite Outing in Summer Break
There is no better recreation than trying something new. Every year we visit a new place as family. During the summer vacation, we went to one of the best tourist spots of India. We planned a five day trip to the fun capital of India, Goa. Goa is one of the most famous places located in the south western region of our country. It is very well known for its beaches and places of worship. We made it to Varca Beach, Cavelessom Beach, Utorada Beach, Arambol Beach and Ashwem Beach. Since we love adventure, we planned our first day to Bats Island. There, we spent the whole day relaxing and snorkeling. The second day we enjoyed sightseeing in speed boats. We enjoyed a lot since we had a good time at the cruise. The next day we booked a van for sightseeing, explored Fort Aguada Jimmy Pal-ace, Central Jail, Raj Bhavan and Dolphin Watch. The best part of our trip was the fourth day at Dudhsagar Waterfalls, which is the fifth largest waterfall in our country .The natural scenery we found there was splendid and our photo session at Dudhsagar Wa-terfalls was the best. The last day we relaxed in the resort we had booked. We did shopping of all pre-cious things available in Goa and enjoyed our evening at Baga Beach before returning to our hometown

Role of Parents
My parents play a very important role in my life. They are not only my parents but much more than
that. They help me and support me too. Teachers and school, just help us to study . They can't
support us as much as our parents do. I share everything with them and if I am not able to share
something with them then I feels very guilty. I am clueless about what I will do without them.
One more thing that I like about them is that they never demotivate me. They always give confi-
dence that I can do what I want. Everyday, whenever I come from school my mother is there to give
me a big hug and my father tries to bring something for me whenever he comes back home from
office. They play many roles in my life from being a super hero to a teacher. I am nothing without
them. When I am happy, they are happier than me, and when I am sad they cheer me up.
They have really good thoughts, they think that being happy is a solution to every problem. When I
feel that I am alone, they give me company.

MY EXPERIENCE OF LTC
LTC Leadership Training Camp-The word
leader gives me immense confidence. And I
consider myself lucky to have experienced it
twice. In the camp Principal Sir came and
told us stories and recited a poem for us
which I liked very much. He asked what
qualities should a council member have.
Children shared their views. We played
various games based on memory and
creativity. Many team building activities
were conducted. We learnt how to work
together in groups. I learnt the qualities of a
good leader and how to perform the duties
responsibly. We watched an inspiring video
clip which taught us never to give up. We
had a healthy breakfast and lunch at the
camp. I made many new friends. It was
really a memorable experience for me.

ROLE OF PARENTS
Like leaves, flowers and branches depend
on the tree for their existence; we, children
in the same way are dependent on our
parents. Their trust in us give us confidence.
They are our first teachers. They are the
best gift given to us by God. Parents are the
one who can guide their children in difficult
times. They are not only the best friends,
but also guardians and teachers. They are
the people who help and support their

the most. My parents are my idol.

My Favourite Outing
During the summer vacation, I went to Singapore with my family .I was very excited because I was there
for the first time. On 6th June I went to Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi by Ola cab. I was waiting
for the flight at the airport. The airport was very big and beautiful. There were many shops. I purchased a
Park Avenue perfume. Finally I boarded the Malindo air flight. After 7 hours I reached the Singapore air-
port. It was also a big airport. The cab driver was waiting for us at the airport. He dropped us at hotel Pina-
cle. We were very hungry. I was shocked to see the vegetarian food there. I took my breakfast and then
went to Sentosa Island. We did many activities. There we solved a murder mystery puzzle also. We saw a
huge submarine. It was a very big island. I bathed in the sea. I made a huge sand castle. I also played foot-
ball with my cousins. I enjoyed and clicked many photos. At the end I was so tired that I slept in the bus.
Next morning we were ready for a new adventure . We went to Universal Studios. It is a beautiful place
with two dangerous roller coasters- human and cyclone. I enjoyed both the rides. Then I went for treasure
hunting in which we had to find the treasure . After some time we came back to our hotel. The next day,
we boarded our flight and came back to Delhi.

Yours sincerely,
Nostalgia
I see my six-year-old self
Bursting out of the class and dashing to the swings,
Feeling giddy with excitement,
Setting my adrenaline running.
I see my nine-year-old self
Singing and dancing in all grace,
In my new haven- the music room
With a 200 watt smile plastered on my face.
Fast forward in time,
And I see my twelve-year-old self
Finding refuge in my favourite seat
By the window, near the shelf.
I then see my fourteen-year-old self
With my friends, sitting in the small pool,
A place that was ours, having lunch and grinning
In my new favourite corner of the school.
I am seventeen now, and love the field more than anything
Surrounded by my friends with a ball in my hand.
Away from the mayhem of becoming older,
And a world my six-year-old self might never comprehend.
I think I cannot decide
Which one of these places is my favourite
All of them have a memory of me growing up,
Deluged in reminiscence, I decide to savour it.
As I walk by all these places today,
I’m flooded with a range of emotions,
Of happiness, sadness and most of all- longing.
A longing that will never reach satiation.
I know I cannot go back
And all I’m left with,
Are tears of reminiscence
And an ocean of memories to
cherish.

Who didn’t know the true me?
“Your marks,
Are reflections of your hard work,
Your pains,
To be educated,
To be knowledgeable”.
“But knowledge isn’t just the letters scrib-

In fact it is the skills,
That I as a student have acquired over the

Do my skills even matter?

Fidget Spinners
Fidget Spinners seem to have taken over everyones mind. Known as a ‘stress buster’, it has gained popularity
all over the world.
Do we actually know the use of this ‘toy’? The Fidget Spinner has been advertised as helping people who have
trouble focussing, by relieving nervous energy or psychological stress. There are claims that a fidget spinner can
be used to help calm people down, especially those who suffer from anxiety and other neurological disorders
like ADHD and autism.
However, there is no scientific evidence that it's effective for the same. Shocking, isn’t it? Now, the next time
you'll be seen holding a fidget spinner, you may be labelled as an autistic person! Not that cool, huh?
A quick fact about fidget spinners: on one hand it's used for treating Autism and curing distraction & on the
other hand many schools have them banned because they are a cause of distraction.
You know, these little things can be bought for as cheap as Rs.50 and as expensive as Rs.1 million and there are
actually many world record holders also for spinning these things.

Surgical Strike
Well, everything seemed alright until..
Booooommb!
And the CBSE board had a new notice for all
those students who had just passed class 9 and
were enjoying their post exam days. This new
notice was no less than a nuclear bomb to them.
CBSE had announced, that they've decided to go
back 7 years, and introduce 'Boards' in class 10.
Luckily, I wasn't the victim of this nuclear bomb-
ing, but I pity those who were.
From snapchat stories, to Arnab Goswami's Time
hour, this game changing decision was a hot
topic.
Some were in favour of it, and some weren't.
Students, who were now going to experience this
change, were going bonkers. They were cribbing,
and cursing the Board.
Comparisons were being made each second, and
their anger seemed to have no end.But class 12
students seemed satisfied ‘We are not the only
ones.

My family has people, who are always loving and
caring,
In their lap of love it is so relaxing.
When I'm wrapped in the cover of darkness and
fail to see God's might,
They guide me every morning, day and night.
My connection with them is very deep,
And when something goes wrong, they ensure I
don't weep.
My family can help my confidence build,
With their love and support I feel so fulfilled.
Even if we were to live underwater or high in the

We will never ever mourn or cry.
As long as we live, no one can break our strong

Cause our love will stay forever, it will never bid
good-bye.

Preparation during the Maths exhibition
Maths expresses itself everywhere in almost every
facet of life. It is the language of science, technology
and engineering. It is more than just knowing how to
calculate the total amount (or change) when we buy
things, it exercises our minds. The Maths exhibition
recently held in our school was a great display of work
by the Srijanites. Nearly a month of hardwork,
beautifully decked up boards, all floors had tables put
up with little Ramanujans explaining the fundas of
maths.
Each and everyone of us was at work, putting in our
best in an hour given to us in the form of zero periods
which we used very productively . Parents and
students were seen participating and solving the quiz
on the day PTM was held. The exhibition was a
colourful fair. All in all it was an informative and a
great learning experience. I always look forward to
participate in such exhibitions.

‘Mom- You are My Superwoman’
Not all superheroes look alike and they may not wear a robe or a costume and show up flying in the sky saving us from
the dangers around. But we all have one with us. My ‘Super hero’ is definitely my mother. She takes care of our family
day and night, and is on her feet attending to all our needs and ready to bring a solution to our problems, the way a su-
perhero does.
A superhero is the saviour of the people; similarly, my mom is my protector and saviour. Whenever I am in trouble, or I
need her for my daily needs, my studies or when I am sick, she comes to my rescue
with all the invisible powers that make her a superwoman for me.
Mothers are our gifted superheroes who are available for us 24/7.

in the evening. As he enters there is so much excitement as he hugs me, kisses me and acts as if we are meeting after
ages. He is my inspiration, like a light house to ships. He has always been a good listener who trusts me and advises
me. He supports me for my taekwondo classes .How can I not be proud of him? Every evening we play games
together which also teaches me to be powerful and self-reliant .At bed time we play KAUN BANEGA CROREPATI. Its so
much fun. However busy he may be, he has never missed any of my cultural programmess and he even records them.

Facebook, twitter, Skype and what not!
These Social networking sites are a big lot!
Sometimes I wonder a world without this fun...
Everyone would just wish to run!!
Facebook is the best time pass for all,
Posting on a friend's wall just makes you LOL!
'Be my friend ' is the favourite line here.
But anyways you can't find such friendship anywhere!!
WhatsApp is a new passion for all,
Making a new group and asking everything about your pal...
Well, twitter is not so common any way,
No more sites. I sometimes pray!!
But this thought gives me a big shock...
It would be an end to my happiness with a big rock!
Somehow they are also a boon,
Meeting an old friend without them is not cool!
A world without them would be helpless,
Every night would be just restless.
But just use them as a precious gift,
So that you stay perfect and fit!!

Social Media: A serious conversation Social media, ah the topic! As soon as this term is spoken DP’s, profile images, status updates and whatnot flashes through a person’s mind. But there are people to whom I would like to say something. To the people on Facebook who post food items they are eating, I would really like to say, ‘thank you soooo much for telling what you had for lunch. The suspense was killing me inside.’ (Organ playing) To the important citizens who post insulting comments about countries or other important people making a difference, I’d say, ’Good morning! You have just won a lottery! Be prepared for a truck filled with a thousand tweets and counter-posts about you arriving in about two seconds!' To the god gifted people making memes, ‘thank you for making a really annoying situation fun filled by a totally wrong (usually) reaction/ face. Finally, to the people who #PostReallyLongSentences As Hashtags, ‘seriously, there is a language that is respected world wide- English, please don’t be an insult to it.’ According to me, the phrase “unity in diversity” fits this crazy world of social media obsessed people like a glove! But believe me, no matter how many likes or followers you get, no matter how socially active you are, it is your real life that matters!

SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media has become something worth millions in
just over a decade, not only to the companies owning
them, but to us teens. It’s a platform to express our
thoughts, be our self or start a riot. The possibilities
are endless. Whether it may be on Instagram- to keep
up the aesthetics, Twitter-for all the rants and shower
thoughts, maybe to bring about a change or maybe
Snapchat- to just get in touch with friends. These are
the things we hold close to our hearts now. We can
express ourselves. Isn’t that what we want the most
anyway? Someone to listen to us. Someone to talk to
us. And just be ourselves? These are medicines to
actually build our personality and find ourselves. For
me it holds a particular importance as it has made me
who I am, helping me connect to my friends overseas.
People may say it’s harmful but isn’t everything just
that? These are just weapons....whether you use them
for good or bad, that depends on you.

An Adventure, A Learning Approaching my own personal Everest... Chadar, the Frozen River Trek. I Had been preparing for this 10 day Trek since the previous year. You must be wondering why. It is not an ordinary trek in the mountains. It is THE CHADAR TREK. The Chadar, or the Frozen Zanskar River Trail is a winter trail in the Zanskar region of Ladakh. This river freezes from December to February, and has a gushing water flow for the rest of the year.
We were all geared up with the specialised clothing, equipment, food. We had to wear almost 7 layers of clothes everyday, but after all, the cold is just a state of mind! physical fitness, mental preparedness to be able to face every chal-lenge that comes our way, were the key to our success on this trek. Millions of stars brightened up the dark sky at night which made it a bit scary to look above. Thinking of it now gives me the same thrill. There was a sense of achievement at every step, and the same time, a thought of uncertainty, the uncertainty of our lives. We slipped, tripped, fell, tried to hold ourselves straight, ran to handle others who fell, but all of this was worth it. The scenic beauty of the great deserted mountains above and the half frozen icy blue river below our feet captivated us. The waves and rocks were visible below the crystal clear chilled water. This view cast a spell on my mind. Climbing dry rocks was a cakewalk when we compare it to the snow covered rocks. Our porters and the local Zanskaris risked their own lives just to save ours. It was so much fun to be the youngest one in the group! It snowed and snowed. The silent fall of the snowflakes could actually be heard. We pitched our tents in the snow, lit fire while it was snowing, and made a snow-man too! Because of the continuous snowfall and stormy winds, the whole group decided to retreat to the base camp as it was life threatening ahead. We were dejected, because we couldn’t reach the last destina-tion, but we were extremely happy that despite the risk involved, we could make it . From walking on the Chadar, taking a plunge in the freezing river, watching it snow, huge frozen waterfalls, being res-cued by the army, to crossing a massive landslide at night. I experienced everything in a single trek, and came back with so many stories to share…

Social Media Addiction Can Lead to Social Isolation.
Do you really believe that getting the highest number of followers on Instagram ,or having many friends on Facebook, would make you a really cool and attractive person? If you do, then let me change your perspective right here. What really makes a person attractive is his /her personality, attitude and charisma. Not his Facebook, Instagram or Whatsapp profiles and scores on Snapchat. Self-esteem issues are created by unrealistic expectations. Nowadays,
teens’ happiness and moods depend upon the consistency of likes and
comments they are getting , the number of friends or followers they have
on social networking sites and the amount of shares and mentions they
get.
To get into the logistics, 95% of teenagers who use social media have wit-
nessed cyber bullying and 33% have been THE victims. Visual and emo-
tional cues are overanalysed in photos and videos. Teens think less of their
own lives because of the other ‘idealised' version of life.
Social media has created a ‘jealous’ behaviour over illusions ,and sadly,
some are envious of things, relationships and lifestyles that don’t even exist!
It is training us to compare our lives, instead of appreciating everything we are or have. No wonder why everyone is always
depressed.
I feel that one should not get influenced by everything one sees on social media because some people aren’t what they
tend to be online.

Is social media really social? Living a virtual life rather than a real one,
you call this social? Social media, the world's most precious thing for a
lot of people, is an addiction. Nowadays it’s not important to live in
the moment but to capture and upload it. Today a lot of people do
things which might not make them happy but still they do, so that
their social media accounts are updated and they become popular. It’s
high time that people understand that it’s not at all important to
upload everything that goes on in their lives. So people should "live
first and capture later".

School Days, the Best Days
School: we join crying, we laugh, we make memories, we leave crying.
Students think life would get better after school. It won’t. It might be great, but not better than this, for sure. Some say
they want to skip to adulthood. Is there something wrong with them? The time spent at school will never come back, let’s
live those moments now!
These years at Srijan have been magical for me; full of amazing experiences and great opportunities.
Starting from the immensely happy junior school, the painting and music periods, to the lovely Aunties, fun-filled picnics at
Lodhi Gardens, to getting slam books filled, the sunny sand pit, to the colourful swings. No study, only fun! The shift from
the junior wing to the senior was a major one. Looking forward to games periods (we still do that!), making new friends,
best friends, standing in the long canteen queues on Tuesdays (everyone loves chowmein), bunking boring classes, getting
long lectures by the teachers, cheating to help each other during exams, the “get out of the class” punishments, the house
unity, the circus classrooms, cheering for each other on the sports days, the list will never end…
Because nothing compares to the years we have spent here. No experience could possibly match up.

Ahhh…I was both excited and scared. Excited being part
of a new environment and teachers and scared of lots of
homework, big books which I had got, tougher exams and
so many other activities to manage all together. How
would I manage all those I didn’t know?
On the other hand I was really sad as well – all my
friends with whom I had spent the last 7 years in the
junior school had moved to different sections. I could no
longer be with them to share my joys, sorrows, lunch and
time. I was going to miss them a lot.
With my new uniform and (those heavy) books, I went to
school and was welcomed by everyone there. All the
teachers were very helpful and explained the details of
academics and the new pattern in the senior school.
Though scary, yet interesting. It really relaxed me and
helped me start my new journey with confidence.

wonderful teachers who are helping us in the best
possible way and giving a congenial environment that

nervous to go to
class VI. I wondered
how my classes, my
seniors, my new
classmates and my
teachers would be.
But at the same time
I was so excited to get my books and notebooks and
get my hands on some new pens.
Finally, on the first day, I realized that my hands were
trembling. I knew in my subconscious mind—
transition phase, greater responsibilities and
expectations. Therefore, I had a mixed bag of feelings
- exhilarated, nervous and curious to know who my
class teacher and my subject teachers were. In the
morning, we began our day by worshipping God and
seeking the blessings of our Principal Sir. I was over-
joyed to know that all my friends and I were in the
same section. All my teachers and classmates were
great.
At that moment I realized that fears are always there
but everybody has to overcome them to climb the
ladder of success. My first day at senior school was as
good as one can imagine it to be. I believe that this
was because of the blessings of my teachers and my
parents. As the quote goes “Never lose hope, you
never know what tomorrow might bring”, that day I
decided to never give up and believe in myself. Now, I
am in class VI without any fears and apprehensions
but with lots of hope and enthusiasm.

School in the Dreamy World
Dear students, the summer has ended
The school year has begun,
But this year is totally different,
I promise we’ll only have fun.
We’ll only play games in the classroom,
You’re welcome to bring your toys,
It’s okay to run in the corridors,
It’s great if you make a lot of noise.
Your video games are your homework,
You’ll have to watch lots of television,
For the games period we’ll go to the movie,
And get lots of candies for free.
The canteen will only serve chocolates and,
triple fudge sundaes,
Yes, that’s what I heard from my teacher,
Before I woke up from my dream!

DEAR GOD, I wish you could send me some medicine, To make me feel calm and relaxed, so that I could easily pass. Oh!I have been having these dreams, I have to sit still while in the exam, my hands down at the paper and big eyes openwith all skill , thinking, if I remember the next answer, dear God, I hope you could send me the medicine... to make me feel better and gain that confidence To let me sleep with peace OH DEAR GOD I have been having these dreams....

EXAMPHOBIA: A Day Before the Exam
Tomorrow is my exam.
Earlier I didn’t give the subject a damn.
But now I regret.
I don’t know how many marks I will get!
I wished lord to make me sick,
But that wasn’t possible in a click.
I wished for the school to break down,
On my face, appeared a prominent frown.
I couldn’t sleep,
Thinking about physics which is too deep!
I fear if I fail.
I wish my boat of marks could sail.
Full of anxiety I was,
“What if my answer sheet is full of
flaws?”
A tear rolled down my cheek,.
I wished for the question paper to leak
But all my wishes were in vain,
And my heart was full of pain.
On the study table I was lying,
I fell asleep, crying.

Holidays’ Homework (A Flop or a Hit)
Lazy hazy summer days
Unwind slowly sun blaze
Sweat smelly air abound
Let us have some fun and jump around
We are told to be indoor
What to do no one knows
Need not worry we have our home task
It will be an icing on the holiday blast.
Gone are the days when students used to say, “I hate holidays homework.” During those days, homework used to be boring.
But the recent trend is to give homework which involves research, survey, experimentation, analysis, data collection and
interviewing and then concluding hence it is challenging, age appropriate and exciting for the students. I love homework even
during vacation as I enjoy doing this. It allows students to continue learning even in break. It develops better understanding
of the concept learnt in school. It helps an individual to manage time and to set priorities. One learns problem solving
techniques and becomes responsible and confident. Hence it lays the basis of life skills which will help a student in his journey
towards success. This year I got holidays’ homework where I had to meet the head of the religious institution…Arya Samaj,
interviewing neighbors to collect data of type of fuel and mode of transport used by them. Reading classic novels, books,
writing the summary, character sketches and enactment of the character. Oh what fun it was.
Math toons…oh my God it was really funny sharing them in the class. Preparing a comic depicting the plight of innocent
animals due to global warming was really an eye opener for me. It was a unique experience in itself. It gave vent to my artistic
talent. When I prepared a Spanish calendar highlighting the major festivals celebrated in Spain, everybody in my house was
amazed.
Real fun was when our work was creatively displayed in the exhibition held after the vacation.
Hats off to the creativity of our teachers who devise such challenging yet fun filled assignments to keep us occupied and to
increase our knowledge. Homework and student life is an ideal combo. I am looking forward to the next vacation and a new
holidays’ homework to conquer.

Children eagerly wait for the arrival of holidays. Vacation is a good time to learn
new things. Homework is one of the tools which can be utilized to make holidays
useful, at the same time enjoyable.
The homework can be designed carefully catering to the interests of children. It
should not only promote academic learning or should include subjects related to
the topics that they are already studying but also activities which can gradually
become hobbies. Reading novels, articles from newspapers, visiting an
interesting place or getting into summer jobs can improve a child's life skills.
Homework helps students work on their own terms and push them to get things
done with an approaching deadline, and can help them retain important
information they may otherwise forget a few short weeks after they have been
released from school.

Dear Ma and Pa
I was filled with delight when I looked at your
handwriting after such a long time. A tear dropped
from my eye when I read your letter.
Today, I want to thank you for supporting me and
fulfilling everything I ever wished to have.
I passed my interview, just an hour back, and soon will
get my first job. I jumped with joy when I heard this on
the phone and instantly started dancing with my
friends. But then, I heard you both congratulating me
in my heart.
It won't have been possible if you were not there to
prevent my fall. You are like a tree to me. You never
have your own fruit but save it for me. It's your
support that gives me the courage to stand for my
beliefs, even if they are against the society. You both
hammered me with continuous scolding, but it
moulded me from the inside and made me who I am
today. You cut on your basic needs to fulfill my wants.
Mom, I remember seeing you running from one place
to another, endless times a day, but never
complaining.
Both of you made sure that I filled my tummy and
slept soundly, even if you didn't. You both have given
your all to me and expect nothing in return.
I never will be able to pay you back for all you did for
me.
And yes, I’ll be reaching Delhi in a week. Can’t wait to
meet you.
Thank you Ma, Pa.
Love you.

Dear Maa and paa, How do I express my indebtedness to both of you in this little letter? First of all, I would like to thank both of you for bringing me into this beautiful world. Sometimes, I imagine, had I not come to this world, I would have surely missed the blue sky, the vast ocean, the bright sun, the cool moon, the green forest, the high hill, the running river, the lovely birds, the innocent beasts, the crowded mall, the wonderful monuments, the tasty food ... so on and so forth. I owe this beautiful vision to my parents. Having said this, I also realise now that my coming to this earth would not have been so easy. Both of you must have gone through loads of pain to nurture me. Whatever I am today, am only because of your love and care. When I learned to walk, my feet must have faltered to put the first step and you were there to hold my hand so I don't stumble. Even if I am happily walking, running, playing basket ball or racing my lovely bicycle today, doing all this wouldn't have been possible if you weren't around to help me, cajole me or at times shout at me. The long list of activities which I started doing in my child-hood, whether to learn the alphabets, read the books, paint the pictures or to memorise the nursery rhymes, wouldn't have been possible if you had not taken up initiatives and adopted me as your dear student before I went to the formal school. Today, I am somewhat self-dependent in almost all my daily routines. And this is possible only because of you. Your soothing words, inspirational talks, loving care, and your sacrifices have become my guiding spirits. I promise, I will make efforts to come up to your expectations to be good and do good. I also promise you that like you took care of my childhood needs, I will take care of your health and happiness in your growing age. But I know, however much I try, I will always remain indebted to you. Thank you mom and dad. I love you. Your loving daughter

The Night before the Exams
A month: Well I have exams in a month. This time, I will show them all,
what *your name* is capable of and not just another dumb kid in the
class. This time, I won’t let them steal the glory that I deserve!
Three weeks: let us start with…
Seven days: Okei-dokei, um… lets see what is left
Three days: Where’s the blueprint?... so this will come for…I will nail it this
time!
Two days: Finally, completed the syllabus…
One day: I don’t know anything! OMG! Tomorrow is my Exam…
The night before exam, especially the hard-to-forget half yearly’s and the
finals, is actually the worst in the whole year. That last day is the sequence
to the climax of a movie, which you are not sure, will have a happy or a sad ending. You have friends calling you,
monitoring your progress and giving updates on what they have done which you very attentively listen to and in turn
fill them on your progress. The most dreaded thing that comes that night is the realisation that your friend is better
prepared than you, and he is no Ramanujan, which sends shivers down your spine and then you begin to think about
the social position you will be in if you do not score well this time. You leave no second of the day when you are not
cursing CBSE and your school for making you go through this insanity. You regret the August days when you were rain
dancing or hanging around with your friends. If you are especially in 9th standard or above, the constant pressure of
your parents and the internal pressure you put on yourself, will keep you from wasting even a second of a day on ‘non
-productive activities’. The WhatsApp groups remain dormant and are only used to share a doubt and your miseries
with your friend.
But, the crux to all this nervousness is your poor relationship with time. I am not asking you to go to a florist to buy
some flowers and propose time to be your girlfriend or boyfriend, but merely advising you to effectively manage time
during this academic session. You will think ‘That is exactly what my teacher said and like the other little things she
says; this doesn’t go inside my head’. Actually, if this thing goes in your head it will automatically create space for
others. Sounds funny, no?
Start by creating an hour to hour time-table which isn’t rigid but not that flexible too.
Wake half an hour early and use that half an hour to revise what you studied yesterday. Just read the bits of
chapter which your teacher explained to you yesterday by which, you will feel refreshed and you will be able to
relate them with what you will be learning the following day.
Make sure that the timetable has adequate hours of fun time in which you will not do anything but enjoy and
relax. Set aside some time to complete your writing work and some time for your self-study. You can divide your
writing work and do some every day so that you can submit it well before time.
With just these two simple steps, you will feel happy and not regret what you did. You will feel relaxed and be at
peace.
