Advent in our lives
This Sunday is the first day of December of 2019. It is not just the beginning of the last month of the year,
for us Catholics is the new Liturgical Year with the first Sunday of Advent. In this new liturgical year, the
Church not only wishes to indicate the beginning of a period, but the beginning of a renewed commitment
to the faith by all those who follow Christ, the Lord. This time of prayer and path of penance that is so
powerful, rich and intense endeavors to give us a renewed impetus to truly welcome the message of the One
who was incarnated for us. In fact, the entire Liturgy of the Advent season will spur us to an awakening in
our Christian life and will put us in a ‘vigilant’ disposition, to wait for Our Lord Jesus who is coming:
Like our Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI reminds us, Awaken! Remember that God comes! Not yesterday,
not tomorrow, but today, now!
The Season of Advent is therefore a season of vigilant waiting, that prepares us to welcome the mystery of
the Word Incarnate, who will give the ‘Light’ to the womb of the Virgin Mary, but essentially this time
prepares us not only to welcome this great event but to incarnate it in our lives. We could say that the true
light enters the world through the immaculate womb of Mary but it does not stay there. On the contrary,
this light flows out into our dark, obscure, sinful lives to illuminate them, so that we can become the light
that illuminates the world. For this reason, let us live this time of waiting not only to celebrate a historical
memory but also to repeat this memory in our lives and in the service of others. To wait for the Lord who
comes, means to wait and to watch so that the Word of Love enters inside us and focuses us every day of
our lives.
Adviento en nuestras vidas
Este domingo es el primer día de Diciembre de 2019. No es solo el comienzo del último mes del año, para
nosotros los católicos es el comienzo del nuevo año litúrgico, iniciando con el primer domingo de Adviento.
En este nuevo año litúrgico, la Iglesia no solo desea indicar el comienzo de un período, sino el comienzo
de un renovado compromiso con la fe de todos los que siguen a Cristo nuestro Señor. Este tiempo de oración
y camino de penitencia que es tan poderoso, rico e intenso se esfuerza por darnos un impulso renovado,
para abrazar verdaderamente el mensaje de Aquel que se encarnó para nosotros, de hecho, toda la Liturgia
de la temporada de Adviento nos invita a despertar en nuestra vida cristiana y nos pondrá en una disposición
"vigilante", para esperar a que venga Nuestro Señor Jesús, ya bien no lo recuerda el Papa emérito Benedicto
XVI:
¡Despierta! ¡Recuerda que Dios viene! ¡No ayer, no mañana, sino hoy, y ahora!
Este tiempo de Adviento es por lo tanto, una temporada de espera vigilante, que nos prepara para dar la
bienvenida al misterio del Verbo Encarnado, quien dará la 'Luz' al vientre de la Santísima Virgen María,
pero esencialmente esta vez nos prepara no solo, para darle la bienvenida a este gran evento, si no que
también para encárnalo en nuestras vidas. Podríamos decir que la luz verdadera entra al mundo a través del
vientre Inmaculado de Santísima Virgen María, pero no se detiene allí. Por el contrario, esta luz fluye hacia
nuestras vidas, para iluminarlas, de modo que podamos convertirnos en la luz que ilumina al mundo. Por
esta razón, vivamos este tiempo de espera no solo para celebrar un recuerdo histórico, sino también para
vivirlo en nuestras vidas al servicio de los demás. Esperar a que venga el Nuestro Señor significa, recibir
su Palabra de Amor en nuestra vidas y vivirla cada día.
