Memorial Day This coming Monday, May 31, is the civil holiday of Memorial Day. Although Memorial Day is recognized as a national holiday, it is also a day that has religious significance as well. On Memorial Day we remember all those military men and women who have died on the field of valor in defense of this great nation. As Catholics who believe in life everlasting and in the purification of purgatory, we also pray for the souls of the faithful departed. For us, Memorial Day is a day to pray for the repose of the souls of those men and women who gave their lives in the service of these United States. In order to pray for the souls of our departed military troops, we will offer two times to celebrate the Mass on Memorial Day. The English Mass will be celebrated at 8:00 a.m. and the Traditional Latin Mass w ill be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Please join us on Mem orial Day Monday to pray the greatest prayer one can offer for the souls of those who have died: The Holy Mass. Graduation Day This Thursday, June 3, our eighth-grade students will celebrate their graduation from elementary school to high school. Their commencement ceremonies will take place within the celebration of The Holy Mass, which they attended daily during their time here at St. Odilo School. This year’s graduation is significant in that it follows on the heels of the health crisis which presented unusual challenges to our students and teachers. Trying to teach and learn in the atmosphere of virtual classes, wearing masks, social distancing, classroom cohorts, and other guidelines and restrictions put them to the test. I think they rose to the challenge admirably and with a spirit of pleasant cooperation. Congratulations for a job well-done and difficulties well-met. Let’s wish our graduates well as they enter high school. Let’s also, and more importantly, assist them with our prayers. I hope they will take all the values and virtues they’ve learned here at St. Odilo School with them into high school and through the rest of their lives. Allow me to use this opportunity of graduation to thank our dedicated teachers and staff members, led by our experienced Principal, Mr. Bill Donegan, for their outstanding service to our students. I’ve known them for the two years that I’ve been here now, and I’m convinced that they are motivated by love of our children and love of our faith. I’m impressed by their willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty to offer the best they can to the students and their parents. They met the challenges of the health crisis with finesse and expertise so that we were able to offer live, in-person learning in a safe environment for the entire school year. Día de los Caídos Este próximo lunes, 31 de mayo, es la fiesta civil del Día de los Caídos. Aunque el Día de los Caídos es reconocido como una fiesta nacional, también es un día que también tiene significado religioso. En el Día de los Caídos recordamos a todos los militares hombres y mujeres que han muerto en el campo del valor en defensa de esta gran nación. Como Católicos que creen en la vida eterna y en la purificación del purgatorio, también oramos por las almas de los fieles difuntos. Para nosotros, el Día de los Caídos es un día para orar por el reposo de las almas de aquellos hombres y mujeres que dieron sus vidas al servicio de estos Estados Unidos. Con el fin de orar por las almas de nuestras tropas militares, ofreceremos dos horarios para celebrar la Misa en el Día de los Caídos. La Misa en Ingles se celebrará a las 8:00 a.m. y la Misa Tradicional en Latín se celebrará a las 9:30 a.m. Por favor únase a nosotros el lunes del Día de los Caídos para orar la oración más grande que uno puede ofrecer por las almas de aquellos que han muerto: La Santa Misa.
