THANKS TO HIS EMINENCE TIMOTHY MICHAEL CARDINAL DOLAN FOR DONATING A CIBORIUM TO OUR CHURCH: This is to thank His Eminence Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan Archbishop of New York for donating one of the ciboria, that was used at the Mass celebrated at Madison Square Garden on Friday, September 25, 2015 during the visit of Pope Francis, to our Church of St. Angela Merici Church. In addition to this gesture, as a token of our appreciation we pledge to continue praying for His Eminence. May the Good Shepherd continue to bless him always.

FINANCE COMMITTEE: On Tuesday March 22, 2016, there will be a Finance Committee meeting at the rectory basement beginning from 7.30.m.

LENTEN FAST : During the Season of Lent, the Church

urges the faithful to reflect a spirit of penance in their daily

lives through performing acts of faith and abstinence.

FASTING: Requires that only one full meal be taken per

day. Two other smaller meals may be taken during the day

to maintain physical strength, but these two meals

together should not equal a full meal in quantity. Nor is

there eating between meals. Fasting obliges all those who

have reached the age of 18 and continues to oblige

through age 59. Those who are not specifically obliged to

fast are encouraged to join in the discipline of fasting to

the extent that they are able.

ABSTINENCE: Abstinence prohibits individuals from

eating meat on a particular day. Abstinence obliges all

those who have reached the age of 14 and continues to

oblige throughout their lives. Those who are not

specifically obliged to abstain from eating meat are

encouraged to join in the disciple of abstaining to the

extent that they are able.

ALMSGIVING: Is a charitable action of giving help

(money, food, clothes, household items etc to the needy

and church. The needy include orphans, widows, the sick,

elderly, immigrants… with the aim of alleviating their

sufferings out of the love for Christ and neighbor. May

God bless you for your thoughtfulness and generosity to

the needy and the church.

NY ARCHDIOCESAN LENTEN RECONCILIATION MONDAY: This year’s Lenten Reconciliation is scheduled to take place on Monday March 21, 2016 beginning from 3.00 p.m. till 9.00 p.m. WAY OF THE CROSS. Every Thursday during Lent our way of the Cross will begin at 6.30p.m. in Spanish, and Friday the way of the Cross will begin at 6.30p.m. in English.

Jesus found a young ass and sat upon it; as it is

written, "Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king

is coming, sitting on an ass's colt.

Today we commemorate Christ's entry into Jerusalem

for the completion of the Paschal Mystery. In the old

calendar before Vatican II, the Church celebrated

Passion Sunday two Sundays before Easter, and then

Palm Sunday was the beginning of Holy Week. The

Church has combined the two to reinforce the

solemnity of Holy Week.

The Palm Sunday procession is formed of Christians

who, in the "fullness of faith," make their own the

gesture of the Jews and endow it with its full

significance. Following the Jews' example we proclaim

Christ as a Victor... Hosanna to the Son of David!

Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord. But

by our faith we know, as they did not, all that His

triumph stands for. He is the Messiah, the Son of

David and the Son of God. He is the sign of

contradiction, acclaimed by some and reviled by

others. Sent into this world to wrest us from sin and

the power of Satan, He underwent His Passion, the

punishment for our sins, but issues forth triumphant

from the tomb, the victor over death, making our

peace with God and taking us with Him into the

kingdom of His Father in heaven.

AYUNO: La ley del ayuno requiere que un católico de 18 años a 59 años, reducir la cantidad de alimentos ingeridos de lo normal durante la temporada de Cuaresma.

PENITENCIA: De acuerdo con el número 1249 del Canon de la Iglesia Católica, todos los fieles están obligados por ley divina, cada uno a su manera personal, a hacer penitencia.

Con la celebración de hoy comenzamos el itinerario espiritual de la Semana Santa. Una vez más, pues, se nos convoca en torno a la realidad central de nuestra fe: el MISTERIO PASCUAL, es decir, el "PASO" confiado de Jesús hacia el Padre a través del dolor y la muerte. Nunca profundizaremos lo bastante en este hecho que nos sobrepasa. Por eso debemos volver a él una y otra vez; como Iglesia del Resucitado, debemos dedicar a esta profundización un TIEMPO MAS INTENSO DE CONTEMPLACIÓN plena y reposada. Ese es el objeto y el sentido de la semana que empezamos.

Y hoy, domingo de ramos, la liturgia nos ofrece como una ANTICIPACIÓN concentrada de cuanto vamos a celebrar durante la semana, al proponernos la figura de Jesús Rey doliente, aclamado y escarnecido a un tiempo: la cruz que se recorta sobre el horizonte del triunfo pascual.

Contemplemos y admiremos la figura valerosa de Jesús: este SERVIDOR generoso de Dios Padre y de todos los hombres hermanados ya por siempre en la encrucijada de su muerte victoriosa. El ha sentido como nadie el dolor moral que pesa sobre las cansadas espaldas de la historia humana; él ha descendido por peldaños de injuria y hostilidad al fondo del pozo, al fondo absurdo y ciego del mal que los hombres hacen a los hombres. El ha bebido el cáliz hasta la última gota... EL HA ASUMIDO TODO ESE MAL DE LOS HOMBRES, SE LO HA HECHO

Señor Jesucristo, tu has ensenado a ser misericordioso como el Padre del cielo, y nos has dicho que quien te ve, lo ve también a El. Muéstranos tu rostro y obtendremos la salvación. Tu mirada llena de amor libero a Zaqueo y a Mateo de la esclavitud del dinero; a la adultera y a la Magdalena de buscar la felicidad solamente en una creatura; hizo llorar a Pedro luego de la traición y aseguro el Paraíso al ladrón arrepentido. Haz que cada uno de nosotros escuche como propia la palabra que dijiste a la samaritana: Si conocieras el don de Dios! Tu eres el rostro visible del Padre invisible, del Dios que manifiesta su omnipotencia sobre todo con el perdón y la misericordia: haz que, en el mundo, la iglesia sea el rostro visible de Ti, su Señor, resucitado y glorioso. Tu has querido que también tus ministros fueran revestidos de debilidad para que sientan sincera compasión por los que se encuentran en la ignorancia o en el error: haz quien se acerque a uno de ellos se sienta esperado, amado y perdonado por Dios. Manda tu Espíritu y conságranos a todos con su unción para que el Jubileo de la Misericordia sea un ano de gracia del Señor y tu Iglesia pueda, con renovado entusiasmo, llevar la Buena Nueva a los pobres proclamar la libertad a los prisioneros y oprimidos y restituir la vista a los ciegos. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: Let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind.
