The Church is listening – and wants to hear from you. In 2018, the 15th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops will be held, featuring the theme: “Youth, faith and vocational discernment.” The goal of the synod is to help young people on their journey into adulthood and to discern the plan that God has for their lives. Pope Francis has asked bishops around the world to gath-er input on this topic from the faithful in their diocese. Please join Bishop Medley for an upcoming listening session, and
add your voice to the discussion on youth and young adults in our local church today and your hopes for the future. The information gathered at the listening sessions will be compiled and submitted to Rome for considera-tion at the 2018 Synod. This is a unique opportunity to tell Bishop Medley – and ultimately Pope Francis – what you think the Church is doing well and what it could do better. These general sessions are open to youth, young adults and adults.

Prayer and Spiritual Life Please include the following people
in your daily prayers!
The Divine Office Allows You to Pray Like Jesus
Historically Jews prayed at fixed intervals throughout the day. King David, who is believed to have wrote the Psalms, proclaims,
“Evening and morning and at noon I u er my complaint and moan, and he will hear my voice.” (Psalm 55:17)
Even the prophet Daniel is shown to have a specific set of prayer, “When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem; and he got down upon his knees three mes a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.” (Daniel 6:10).
The Jewish people began a tradition of praying three times a day: morn-ing, afternoon and evening. This developed into a program of praying the Psalms in particular as they expressed the many desires of the human heart. Jesus is recorded praying the Psalms on multiple occasions, most famously the words of Psalm 22 (“My God, my God, why hast thou forsak-en me?”).
Congratulations to Bradley Aaron Blanchard & Kelsey Brooke Pruemer Smith, who were united in marriage here on May 6, 2017 . Made one in the Sacrament of Holy Marriage, may you persevere in faith, hope and love.

Ascension of the Lord May 28, 2017
Jesus prays to his Father during the “Last Supper Discourse” in St. John’s Gospel. He takes this last opportunity with his disci-ples to prepare them for the impending fate that awaits him for teaching about God’s love and how we can truly love God. Gathered in an upper room to celebrate the Passover Jesus speaks to his Father, but he is communicating to his disci-ples that the time is near when he will no longer be physically with them, but he will be with them in the Spirit the Father will send so that they will understand all that he did and said, and have the courage to imitate him and bring his message to others by their words and actions. At the Last Supper the disciples did not fully understand all that Jesus was trying to tell them. But after his death and Resur-rection the Spirit was upon them and they began to live as he taught them. Do we understand Jesus did and said and do we have the courage to imitate him?
“And now I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world while I am coming to you.”
Worship/Spiritual Life Ascension of the Lord May 28, 2017
Today’s Gospel is taken from the conclusion of the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew’s Gospel quickly moves from the disciples’ discovery of Jesus’ empty tomb, to Jesus’ ap-pearance to Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, to the commission that Jesus gives his disciples in today’s Gos-pel.
The Final Commission, as this Gospel is sometimes called, is given on the mountaintop. Throughout Scripture, the most important events happen on the mountaintop, and Matthew has used this motif throughout his Gospel. Earlier in Matthew’s Gospel, Peter, James, and John had seen Je-sus transfigured on the mountaintop (Matthew 17:1-8). Also in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus taught the crowds from the mountaintop in what we now call the Sermon on the Mount.
Here we are told that the eleven disciples go the mountaintop in Galilee, as Jesus had instructed through Mary Magdalene and the other Mary (cf. Matthew 28:9-10). They see Jesus, and both worship and doubt at the same time. Jesus approaches them and com-missions them to baptize and teach, "to make disciples of all nations." It is a task which Jesus had previously prepared his disciples for; recall that Jesus had sent the twelve apostles to preach the Kingdom of God and to heal (cf. Matthew 10:1-15). However, earlier the Twelve were sent only to the House of Israel; in this Final Commission, the eleven are told to go to "all nations." The mission of Jesus is now to be taken to all people; the task now is to baptize and to teach.
Jesus commissions his disciples to baptize in the name of the Trinity, one of the clearest attestations found in Scripture for baptism in the name of the Trinity. In the Acts of the Apostles and in the Letters of Paul, baptism is more frequently offered "in the name of Jesus."
The ending of Matthew’s Gospel can be understood as the beginning of the Church. Jesus commissions his disciples to continue to teach in his name and to bring others into the com-munity of disciples through baptism. The Gospel ends, as it had begun, with the promise that Jesus will continue to be Emmanuel, "God with us" (cf. Matthew 1:23), for all eternity.

Eucharistic Adoration ~ Tuesdays 5:00-6:00 pm The gaze of the Church is constantly turned to her Lord, present in the Sacrament of the Altar, in which she discovers the full manifestation of His boundless love. Eucharistic Adoration is the act of worshipping God as He is present in the consecrated Eucharist. Things to do: pray the Psalms or the Liturgy of the Hours, recite the “Jesus Prayer,” meditate using Scripture, spiritual reading, sit in quiet, ask for forgiveness and intercede for others, pray the Rosary, etc. Think about making a holy hour or visit the church for even a few minutes of solitude and prayer!
