Information for Your Flight

Online check in: Login to your airline’s website 24 hours prior to departure. Please use the reference number on your e-ticket to check in online. This website will provide you with all the information needed to check-in online. It is important to note that not all airlines allow for online check in due to security reasons. If your flight is delayed, DO NOT WORRY. We will be tracking the flights and checking on the status to meet you at the airport on time. If your flight is canceled or you miss a flight, try to work with the airline to be rescheduled on a different flight. If you are able, please let us know what flight you have been put on before you depart. Otherwise, you can contact us once you arrive in Brussels. We will have staff available to meet you at the airport. If you experience travel difficulties that you are unable to resolve working with airline staff, please call our emergency contacts to let them know of the situation. We will try our best to make sure you can attend the event.

When you arrive in Belgium you will go through customs. Make sure you are prepared for customs by having the following documentation with you:

Mr. Amhaus served as the first President and CEO of the Water Council since March 2010. Headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Water Council was formed in 2009 to drive economic, technology and

talent development to support the global water industry. TWC’s most significant achievement occurred in September 2013 with the opening of the Global Water Center, a one-of-a-kind water technology research and business accelerator located in a 98,000-square foot/30,000 square meter seven-story refurbished Silver LEED warehouse in Milwaukee’s downtown. Dean has served as the President of the Spirit of Milwaukee, which is dedicated to enhancing Milwaukee’s image; President of Forward Wisconsin, the state’s economic development organization; and Executive Director of the Wisconsin Sesquicentennial Commission. For six years, Dean was with the Wisconsin Arts Board; first as Deputy Director and later as Executive Director. During the 1980’s, he worked in government relations in Washington, D.C. Mr. Amhaus received his MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and his BS in Business from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Mr. Burger is the Director of the Coastal Services Division for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management (DHEC-OCRM). Since joining DHEC in 2004, Mr. Burger has worked to advance the policy goals of the state’s Coastal Zone Management Program through the development and implementation of

innovative program strategies, products and services. Mr. Burger leads staff performance of inter-governmental planning, coastal hazard analysis and policy development efforts. In 2014, Mr. Burger led the establishment of the Charleston Resilience Network (CRN), a voluntary public-private coalition, and has since been honored to serve as the coalition Chair. Prior to his work in South Carolina, Mr. Burger worked to advance environmental public policy and build the capacity of non-profit organizations in Maryland. Mr. Burger is an

Ms. Cain is a certified Economic Developer and Urban Planner. She has over 16+ years of experience in governmental/organizational leadership and in

working with non-profits and public-private partnerships on a variety of policy, economic development and complex project management initiatives. Caitlin is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the World Trade Center of New Orleans where she works to highlight international trade issues and promote trade opportunities to WTC members and partner agencies. Before stepping into this position, Caitlin served a federal appointed term as the Regional Advocate for the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy, covering Region VI, which includes the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. Throughout this tenure, Caitlin worked to amplify the voice of small businesses and advocate for policy and regulatory change to federal agencies and the White House; she also worked on forging numerous public-private partnerships in a variety of economic sectors. Caitlin received a Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Michigan and her Bachelor’s from the University of Toronto. She is a graduate of the New Orleans Leadership Institute, Past-President of the Women’s Professional Council and sits on numerous boards and advisory councils throughout the region.

Seminole County Commissioner Constantine, a graduate of the University of Central Florida, has represented Florida as a public servant for 38 years. In 1978, he was elected the youngest person in the City of Altamonte Springs history to serve as Commissioner and Mayor for 14 years. In 1992, he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives

where he served for 8 years. In 2000, Constantine was elected to the Florida Senate representing the citizens of Orange and Seminole Counties. He served until November 2010, only ending his distinguished career due to term limits. Since 2012, Mr. Constantine has served on the Seminole County Board of County Commission. Clayton was formerly the Director of Government Affairs for the Midwest United States with CH2M HILL, a global engineering design/build consulting firm. He also held previous positions at the Federal Aviation Administration, the United States Department of Agriculture as an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Specialist, and Cook County Assistant States’ Attorney. Clayton assisted Mayor Richard M. Daley in his legislative agenda in Springfield where he focused on crime, environment and labor. In addition to various Illinois government roles, Clayton also lectures at the University of Chicago where he teaches Process and Policy in State and Local Government in the School of Public Policy. Mr. Harris has his law degree from Howard University School of Law.

million tons annually, the Port of Corpus Christi is one of the largest energy ports in the world. A native of Reading, Pennsylvania, John received his BA and MA in Political Science from Villanova University and has served on numerous industry and charity boards.

Jeff Madden is the Director of the International Trade & intergovernmental Affairs Committee in the Texas House of Representatives. In his role as Director, he organizes legislative hearings in the Capitol and throughout the state, taking invited testimony from experts on various topics including: the international trade of energy and agriculture; climate change; transportation infrastructure; and Federal

trade policy and negotiations. The committee is comprised of seven State Representatives, and is chaired by State Representative Rafael Anchia of Dallas. He has been at the Texas House of Representatives for 12 years. Prior to beginning his current role in February of 2013, he held of the position of Director of the Licensing and Administrative Procedures Committee, chaired by a State Representative representing a portion of Southeast Texas. Jeff resides in Austin, TX and holds a B.A. from the University of Texas.

In 2016, she was elected to serve as Superward City Council seat for the second largest city in Virginia because of her pro-growth innovation platform which focused on improving public schools, diversifying the economy in a city home to the largest Naval Base in the world, finding innovative solutions and funding to address rising sea levels and creating a more engaged, accessible and transparent city government. Her Watershed Management team is managing continued investments in the separate sanitary sewer system improvements under an extended consent decree, major investments in the RM Clayton wastewater reclamation facility, and implementation of a water distribution system asset management program. She previously served as Director of Public Works for the City of Jackson, MS and provided oversight for the implementation of wastewater Consent Decree program requirements and the City’s $90M water infrastructure improvement program. Commissioner Powell is a professional engineer and collection systems operator.

11. Richard Seline serves as Executive Director and Senior Advisor to the Texas-based AccelerateH2O – the statewide and Southwest US regional water technology initiative. A fourth-generation Texan, Richard’s career spans over thirty years of public and private sector engagement – previously serving as Special Assistant to the President of the University of Texas M.D. Andersen Cancer Center, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce, assisting his family’s 100-year-old construction company and former CEO of a twelve-person global technology-focused economic and

business consultancy. In his capacity as Executive Director, Richard supports the efforts to respond to opportunities for a $9B water technology marketplace through AccelerateH2O’s programs such as InvestH2O (the annual investment forum), six regional Innovative Water Technology Demonstration Hubs, and several industry and public utility roundtables.

Mr. Vincent is responsible for the management of Houston Ship Channel activities including dredging, pipelines, marine construction permits, submerged land uses, and federal channel agreements. He was previously

responsible for development of the Port’s Bayport Container Terminal. He received his B.S. from West Point, and holds Masters degrees in civil engineering and national security strategy. Vincent is the former Corps of Engineers district commander for South Carolina ports, water resource planning, and hydropower. He served as an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at the U.S. Military Academy and led the National Imagery and Mapping College in support of the U.S. Department of Defense and its allies. He served four tours with the U.S. Army in Germany and Iraq.

1. Bérangère Basin is Head of the Flood and Coastal risk unit at the Directorate General for Risk Prevention (DGPR) of the French Ministry for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition since 2014. Prior to that, she was Policy officer at the Ozone Unit of the European Commission (DG CLIMA), and administrator at the ENVI Committee of the European Parliament. She was also a biotechnology officer at the DGPR.

2. Julia Beile is a Policy Analyst for Agriculture and Maritime Affairs in the Work Programme and Strategy Directorate of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC). In this role, she facilitates the collaboration between the JRC, DG AGRI and DG MARE ensuring that the JRC's expertise effectively informs new EU policy and legislation. She joined the JRC in November 2013 to work in the EU Expo 2015 Taskforce. Apart from being the deputy director of the EU Pavilion, she has overseen scientific and policy aspects of the EU participation in Expo 2015. Prior to that, she worked in the German Federal Ministry of

Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection in the Food Security Unit where she followed food security, development and sustainability issues in the G8, G20 and Post-2015 Agenda. She graduated in European Culture and Economy and worked for the Brussels' office of the Konrad-Adenauer in the field of EU Development Cooperation from 2007 till 2009 as well as an EU Project Manager for the Enterprise Europe Network from 2009 till 2011.

3. Klemen Bergant serves as a director of Meteorology

and Hydrology Office at the Slovenian Environment Agency. He graduated in meteorology at the Faculty for Mathematics and Physics and received his Ph.D. at the Biotechnical Faculty, both University of Ljubljana. Before joining the Slovenian Environment Agency, he was the Head of the Centre for Atmospheric Research at the University of Nova Gorica. His main research topics were regional climate change modelling, and development and application of lidars for remote sensing of aerosols. In 2006, he became a director of

Meteorological Office at the Slovenian Environment Agency and in 2017, after the reorganization of the agency, he moved to the position of a director of Meteorology and Hydrology Office. He is a Permanent Representative of Slovenia in the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and Slovenian representative in the Councils of the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) and European Agency for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT). He represents Slovenian Meteorological Service in the Assemblies of two economic interest groupings of European Meteorological Services – EUMETNET and ECOMET. In the period 2009-2013, he served as a Vice-Chair and in the period 2013-2015 as a Chair of EUMETNET. He is an Adjunct Professor of Meteorology at the University of Nova Gorica.

4. Filip Boelaert is Secretary-General of the Department of Mobility and Public Works. Prior to this position, he was Head of the Office of Hilde Crevits, Flemish Minister for Mobility and Public Works. He has over 20 years of working in the public sector.

5. Jean-Loic CARRÉ is the General Manager of AQUA-Valley. AQUA-Valley aims at improving water industries and services performances through innovative, collaborative R&D projects, international markets developments and smaller company’s skills and cooperation consolidation. A Fluid Mechanics engineer, then a Master degree in Applied Ocean Sciences from University of California, San Diego, Mr.CARRÉ co-founded in the early 80′s one of the first scientific engineering start-ups in Sophia-Antipolis, a famous technopark in France, and managed a number of R&D and engineering projects in offshore, aeronautics, automotive and defense fields, including the creation of

an international freight airport, and of a regional technological park gathering industries and services, education and research facilities in the Champagne region. By the end of 2012, he was appointed at AQUA-Valley (formerly named Pôle EAU), to contribute to the consolidation of the regional water ecosystem and capitalize on Montpellier long term,

worldwide-known academic reputation in this field.

6. Ana Lopes Da Silva joined B&S Europe as Senior

Project Manager in July 2017 where she took on the

management of the EU Public Outreach Partnership

project in the USA. She is one of B&S Europe’s Public

Policy experts as well as a leading member of the

International Governance working group of the

company. Based in Brussels, Ana is originally from

Portugal but grew up and studied in France. She

studied foreign languages (English-Portuguese),

applied to economic, political and legal sectors, then

studied EU-US history, compared societies and political

systems. She ended her studies in Belgium where she focused on European affairs, European

policy-making and Public Administration. She started her career at Ernst & Young in 2008 as

a key account managing assistant and bid coordinator where she worked to coordinate the

firm’s bids on EU projects and manage development aid and policy evaluation projects.

7. Patrik Peeters

In 1997, Patrik Peeters graduated as an

Environmental engineer. Next, he followed an

additional Master in Water Resources

Engineering. After he gained 3 years of

experience as a hydraulic engineer working for

a consultancy firm, Patrik started working for

the Environmental Agency of the Flemish government as a hydrologist responsible for flood

modelling of non-navigable rivers. Since 2005, Patrik transferred to Flanders Hydraulics

Research (FHR), a research institute within the Department of Mobility and Public Works.

First as a research engineer, Patrik provided services within the framework of the update

Sigmaplan, which is a integrated water management plan for the tidal reach of the river

Scheldt. During this period, his interest for levee management arose and continues to grow.

The past five years, Patrik worked as a coordinator of the research group dealing with

waterborne infrastructure, including ship locks, waterways and water defenses. From

October 1st 2017 ,he was appointed account manager for FHR.

8. Frank Geerkens

Frank Geerkens is Port Ambassador at the Antwerp Port Authority since September 2014. He’s been a career diplomat since 1985, having served in several diplomatic posts, i.a. as Ambassador of Belgium to the Netherlands (2011-2014), Ambassador of Belgium in Baku, Azerbaijan (2007-2008), and Consul General of Belgium in Los Angeles (2000-2004). He’s also served as Diplomatic Advisor to Belgian Prime Minister Jean-Luc Dehaene (1997-1999) and as Deputy Chief of Cabinet of the Belgian Foreign Ministers Yves Leterme and Steven Vanackere (2009-2011).Frank Geerkens has been lecturer in International Economy and Finance at the Brussels business school ICHEC (2004-2006) and lecturer in Diplomacy at the K.U.Leuven (2004-2007). Frank Geerkens is also chairman of the board of the

Organization of Sustainable Business Parks in Europe (OSBE) since 2015.

9. Philippe Guettier, a public health and environmental engineer with strong experience in the water sector, is the General Director of the French Water Partnership since November 2012, a public-private platform bringing together 150 French water actors working at the international level. Prior to joining his current position, Mr. Guettier spent his career with the French Ministry of Ecology, notably in the cabinet of the Minister and its water department, where he devoted himself to international, Mediterranean and European actors.

10. Karel Heynert is a Water Management Specialist at the research institute Deltares. Karel is an experienced project manager with a demonstrated history of working in the specialist consultancy and research industry.

11. Bart de Jong is Counselor for Infrastructure and the

Environment at the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Washington D.C. He covers relations with counterpart US government

agencies, multilateral institutions, NGO’s and the private sector. Policy areas include infrastructure, transportation, the environment and water management.

12. Dr. Konstantinos Kavvadias has a background in chemical engineering (National Technical University of Athens), specialised in process and system analysis and design. He is an expert in energy economics and energy technologies. Between 2010 and 2013 he worked at the International Atomic Energy Agency, developing and maintaining energy and economic models. In 2014 he joined the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, and since then he is working on modelling activities related to power systems, heating and cooling, and water-energy analyses.

13. Thaïs Leray is a Policy Officer in the adaptation unit of DG Climate Action of the European Commission, where she is responsible for mainstreaming climate adaptation in agriculture, forest, water and environment policies. She has spent the past 15 years working on policies and projects at the nexus of economic development, environment and climate change in the DG for International Cooperation and Development, as well as for the private sector and international organisation prior to joining the European Commission in 2010. She holds 3 Masters in Business Administration, Environmental Management and International Economics.

14. Felix Leinemann is Head of Unit for Blue Economy Sectors, Aquaculture and Maritime Spatial Planning. He worked for the European Commission since 2003 in various fields including fisheries and maritime policy, shipping, aviation and urban transport, as well as the EU's global navigation satellite system Galileo. Between 2012 and 2014 he worked as Transport Counselor in the EU Delegation in Washington, DC. Before that, he was a member of the private office of European Commission Vice-President Siim Kallas, after having been Assistant to the Director General for Mobility and Transport since 2010. Mr Leinemann holds a PhD from the University of Freiburg, following law studies in Germany and Italy. Before joining the Commission, he worked as a lawyer and advocacy officer in Germany, France and Belgium.

15. Elena Višnar Malinovská is currently Head of the Climate Adaptation Unit in DG Climate Action of the European Commission. She worked for 12 years in the European

Commission in different positions. As a policy officer in the Secretariat General, she dealt with environment, energy, mobility and climate policies (2005-2010, 2014-2016). In the Cabinet of Commissioner responsible for environment (2010-2014), she spearheaded the review of the air quality legislation as well as oversaw the infringements policy in the environment field. During the Slovak Presidency (2016), she acted as a spokesperson for Coreper I matters (including climate policy). She holds a law degree from the Comenius and Thyrnaviens universities ("JUDr.") and made European studies abroad (SciencePo in Paris, College of Europe in Poland).

16. Richard Massar is Marketing Communications Manager at

Royal IHC. He has 14+ years of experience in marketing and communications, mainly working in the dredging industry.

17. Jantienne van der Meij-Kranendonk is advisor to international

grant programs at the TU Delft with extended experience in EU policy issues.

18. Joost de Nooijer is Port Engineer and Project Manager of Water Safety at the Port of Rotterdam. His background is in Civil Engineering at TU Delft. In his presentation, Joost will focus on resilience of the Port of Rotterdam to future impacts like sea level rise and storm surges.

19. Sandra Poikane is an

aquatic ecologist, currently employed as a scientific

officer at the Joint Research Centre of European Commission in Ispra, Italy. As the co-leader of the Working Group on Ecological Status under the

Common Implementation Strategy of the Water Framework Directive, her work is focusing on harmonization of ecological quality assessment systems in Europe, as well as research for development and harmonization of aquatic bioindicators.

20. Anna Bobo Remijn currently works as a senior policy officer in the maritime safety unit of the Transport Department (DG MOVE) in the European Commission. In this capacity, she is responsible for the EU Directive on port reception facilities for ship generated waste and cargo residues. Anna started her career in the EU institutions in 2002, working in the Environmental Department of the Commission (DG ENV). In 2005, she moved to the newly established European Maritime Safety Agency, working as a Legal Coordinator. After an interim role at the European Economic and Social Committee, she re-joined the Commission in 2012. Anna holds a Masters in Law from Leiden University, having completed her thesis on marine protection at the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea, as well as a Master's degree (LL.M.) in European Law

from Leuven University.

21. Mark Roelofs is area director for Africa and the Americas at

Van Oord. He has worked in Madrid and Panama and has many years of experience working in an international context.

22. Paris Sansoglou, Secretary General of the European Dredging Association, holds a degree of Commercial Engineer from the Solvay Business School that he has complemented with degrees in Environmental Studies (ULB), Business Informatics (VUB) and Financial Analysis (CIAF) (member of the European and the Belgian Associations of Financial Analysts ABAF-BVFA). His professional experience is varied and includes research (on sustainable development), statistics (Business Statistics), knowledge management, economic, environmental & financial consulting activities (at Ernst & Young). He has spent most of his career on the ‘European’ scene working in the European

Commission (Eurostat) and in trade associations (representing successively the European manufacturers of synthetic fibres, the European shipbuilders and now the European

dredgers). Paris developed his strong kinship with maritime policies and technologies since he joined the Community of European Shipyards’ Associations (CESA) and now he pursues his passion for the sea related issues with the European Dredging Association (EuDA) where he is Secretary General since April 2009. He has been managing maritime strategic activities covering research projects (coordinator, partner in FP5 & FP6 and H2020), trade issues, social aspects, technical and environmental issues, statistics, market monitoring. As the representative of EuDA, Paris has been advocating market access worldwide and global level playing field. He is part of various European teams actively working towards opening market around the world and towards improving level playing field.

23. Ruud Staverman, Coordinator of International Affairs at the Ministry of Public Works (Rijkswaterstaat), has extended experience in a wide variety of water topics, including fresh water quality and water safety, and international affairs. Ruud will focus on the Dutch water safety policy structure.

24. Johan Verlinde is Asset Manager Water & Sewerage in the city of Rotterdam. He is responsible for the development and implementation of the asset management framework.

25. Cedric Virciglio holds a master’s degree in History and Political Sciences from the University of Strasbourg (France). He joined HAROPA – the port Alliance of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris in July 2017 as European and International Affairs Manager. He has 10 years of experience in the fields of European Affairs and lobbying and he has a wide network of contacts with experts, academics, and policy-makers. Virciglio is also an expert for The High Council for Evaluation of research and Higher Education (Hceres) responsible for evaluating higher education institutions and

groupings, research bodies, scientific cooperation foundations and the French National research Agency. Until June 2017, he was Director of the Bureau Alsace Europe – the Representation of the Alsatian local, regional authorities and consular bodies to the European Union in Brussels.

Michelle DeMoor is a lawyer with broad legislative and international trade policy experience. She serves as Senior Trade Advisor at the Delegation of the European Union to the United States, advocating to the US government on a wide range of trade policy issues. Prior to this, DeMoor was a Senior Trade Policy Advisor at the British Embassy in Washington, focusing on trade and agriculture matters in the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiations. DeMoor’s earlier roles include Senior Director of International Policy at Philips Electronics and Associate Vice President at the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), managing international regulatory, reimbursement and trade matters impacting the medical device industry. She is admitted to practice law in

the state of Maryland, and has served on the Board of Directors of Women in International Trade and was Corporate Board President of the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Damien Levie heads the Trade and Agriculture Section of the European Union Delegation in Washington, D.C. Before coming to Washington, he was a member of the Cabinet of EU trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht from 2009-2012. He subsequently headed the USA and Canada team of the Directorate General for Trade and the European Commission. During that period, he contributed to the launch of the transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiations between the US and the EU, for which he was deputy chief negotiator. He also advised Karel De Gucht on a variety of trade policy issues including the new investment protection competence of the EU, intellectual property rights and services. Damien joined the European Commission in 2001 working on issues including

merger control policy and REACH, the EU’s basic chemical regulation. From 2005-2009, he served in the Cabinet of Louis Michel, EU Commissioner for Development Humanitarian Aid. During that period, he worked on economic development policy in Africa as well as European economic integration issues. He also participated in the works of the UN Commission for the Legal Empowerment of the Poor co-chaired by former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Hernando de Soto. Mr. Levie has law degrees from KU Leuven and the University of Chicago Law School and an economics degree from UC Louvain. He was a lawyer at a major US law firm in Brussels and New York from 1994-2001.

Jennifer Danner Riccardi serves as Senior Advisor working in the Trade and Agriculture section of the Delegation of the European Union in Washington, D.C. She is responsible for promoting transatlantic trade throughout the United States. Her portfolio notably includes government procurement, trade in financial services and investment issues, including investment dispute settlement. Prior to joining the Delegation, Ms. Riccardi was the Economic Counselor at the Embassy of Luxembourg, ran a small consulting group, and was the Senior Advisor for Trade and Investment at the British Embassy in Washington. From 1993-2005, Ms. Riccardi practiced law in the international trade practice at Dewey Baltimore. She studied

political science and history at Fordham University and earned her JD from the George Washington University.
