Case Study -‐ SHERINAH
My name is Sherinah born and I was born in August 2001. I am 12 years old and I was born alone on my mom’s side. When I was two years old, both my parents passed away to HIV/AIDS. It’s my aunt who told me when I was seven years. My farther was a Muganda (central Uganda) by tribe and my father came from the Madi tribe
(north west).

I feel bad that both my parents died but I am happy that I am alive. I remember when I was nine years old, I fell
ill with yellow fever. I grew so small and got worried but I thank God that I did not die. I am a born-‐again Christian and I love my God. I pray every day and go to church on Sundays.
I was brought to Bitone Children's Center when my aunt could no longer take care of my school fees. At Bitone, I started going to school. Last year, I sat for my Primary Leaving Examination and I
passed with 13 aggregates. At Bitone, I have acquired practical skills in dancing, singing, and making crafts. Since I did not grow with any of my late parents, I missed parental love but I am enjoying the love
and care at Bitone. I have also been a leader at my school and I have won many certificates of appreciation. Currently, I have joined senior one at Kinaawa High School and I love it.
My goal is to study hard and become a professional medical doctor. My dream is to reach the University level because I admire people
who have studied up to the University. When I finish school and I get a job, I promise to help elderly people. I thank my brothers and sisters at Bitone who show me love and care.
Three students move onto higher education at Universities:
• Grenia—Bachelor’s degree in Music • Sebastian— Bachelor of Science in Computer Science • Aisha— Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering
Plans for the Coming Year
• Bitone US performance tour 2015 involving the children • Record the Bitone Troupe 3rd audio music album in Summer 2015 • Shoot a short Bitone first ever film/documentary made by children for children, highlighting
their stories and aptitudes. (We need a qualified intern in film or recruit a Ugandan-‐Based filmmaker at a cost!)
• Recruit at least two full-‐time paid staff (could be on a two-‐year contract, renewable) • Seek support for at least two commercial projects for Bitone to support our desire to operate
more sustainably. Our hope is that we shall be able to raise a minimum of total amount of $50,000 in the coming year.
