Patras to Korinth Brief Guide
TrizoniaTrizonia is a pretty little island settlement with no vehicles benefiting from a fine even if yet
unfinished marina. The anchorage has several spots with Poor Holding, so getting a spot in
the marina is advisable.
The approach to Trizonia is either from SE, between it
and the smaller islet of Ay, Ioannis, or from NW
between it and the mainland. There are no hazards in
the approach from SE, but note that a reef extends in
parts for 200-300 metres from the N and NE shores of
the island and a very wide approach is necessary to
avoid it. Once into the bay on the E side of the island,
the marina is entered from SW between the two longprotective breakwaters. Depths in the entrance to the bay are 9.0 10.0 metres and in the
marina entrance 5.0 6.0 metres. Shelter in the bay is very good from all directions,
although E winds send in a chop. Shelter in the marina is excellent.

Galaxidhi
An alternative stop-over which is highly
recommended is Galaxidi. A beautiful
Coastal little town, with a long history of
shipping and shipbuilding and hosts a good
nautical museum, but today it is the upscale
picturesque haunt of well-heeled Athenians
and visiting yachtsmen. The quays here have
recently been refurbished, making Galaxidhi
one of the most yacht-friendly harbours in
the gulf. It is also a handy place to leave your
boat for a visit to the ancient site of Delphi.
Shelter is good under most conditions,
although strong NE winds send in a
moderate swell. The maritime museum is
quite nice as well.
You may berth either alongside or stern-to
the jetty. Do not head towards the inner side
of the Port even if it seems deep enough.
There are considerable changes of the water
level throughout the day!
! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS INSIDE
Apsiphia Isl. even if you see others do it !
recommended course by day: steer course
328deg, towards W coast of Ag.Georgios Isl. When the light of Apsiphia Isl. is visible on
bearing 20deg, turn to port and steer on 311deg in order to pass between Vr.Petalo (short,
60cm rock) and Georgios Isl. Finally, take course 226deg, aiming at the dome of the church
of Ag.Nikolaos or by keeping astern the visible part of Panagia Isl on 046deg.
recommended course by night: stay inside the green sector of the Itea Light on course
000deg, round AgDimitrios Isl by 400m. When the light at Apsiphia Isl is visible on 224deg,
turn to port and sail 270deg until the Galaxidi Harbour can be seen on 217deg.

Corinth Canal
A 6hrs / 3hrs / 1hrs notice on your arrival is advisable. Advise Control Tower at VHF Ch 11 ortel: +30 27410 30880 the following:
- Name
- Registry
- Port of Origin
- Port of Destination
Velocity required by canal is 7knots but a bit less (5~6knots) is tolerated for smaller vessels.
While transiting the canal you MUST stay in contact with the controller via VHF channel 11 In
general the passage through the canal is uneventful if you maintain enough speed to have
complete control of your yacht but resist the urging of the control operator to speed up.
Remember that they are used to large ships and not small yachts.
While transiting try to stay well behind any large ship ahead of you to avoid losing control
because of the turbulence.
The payment is done at Isthmia (East Side). For this purpose go alongside the South pier.
Warning: There is a current in the canal which can reach 3 knots (although 1.0 1.5 is more
usual). Its direction can be either way, depending on the state of the tides.
