    Pavia was officially founded in 1862. How the town

    got its nae is unclear! and has long been dis"uted

    #1$ %he nae cae fro a certain &olonel Pavia of the

    '"anish garrison in (loilo who was su""osedlyres"onsible for initially establishing a '"anish "resence

    in the area.

    who lived in her hoetown of %agaste in NorthAfrica. Patricius had soe redeeing features!

    but he had a violent te"er and was licentious.

    +onica also had to bear with a cantanerous

    other*in*law who lived in her hoe. Patricius

    criticied his wife because of her charity and

    "iety! but always res"ected her. +onicas

    "rayers and eCa"le finally won her husbandand other*in*law to &hristianity. Her husband

    died in />1! one year after his ba"tis.

    after and suffered severely for nine days before her

    death.
