2. Project explorerThe project explorer can be used to navigate tothe used IEDs within a project / substation andfurthermore within an IED to navigate to thedifferent functionality of an IED. The user is ableto create a plant structure with a substation, voltage levels, bays and IEDs.

New IEDs can also be created by use of IEDtemplates. This enables the reuse of existing IEDconfigurations. IEDs, bays, voltage levels or awhole substation can be copied and pasted in theplant structure. Selection of a specific IED in theproject explorer gives access to the IED’s tools. The function of importing and exportingdescriptions of IEC 61850 substationconfigurations, configured devices and devicefunctionality allows information to be shared withother engineering and system integration tools.By using the filtering feature of the projectexplorer the user can filter information of othertools according to the selection made.

3. Parameter settingThe parameter setting of PCM600 enablesviewing and setting IED parameters offline (storedin the tool) and online (stored in both the tool andthe IED). The parameters can be read from theIED to PCM600 or written from PCM600 to theIED while the IED is in service. In addition, theparameters can be exported and imported for testsets in the XRIO format (for example, OmicronTest Universe) or exported in the CSV format tobe easily read and reused.

The parameter setting function can be used intwo different modes. The normal mode allows aquick viewing and changing of the mostcommonly used parameters, whereas theadvanced mode unveils all parameters that canbe set.

PCM600 further offers a filtering function thatallows the viewing of all IED parameters or theparameters related to a specific function block. Inaddition, it can be chosen to only viewparameters that have been changed orparameters with values deviating from the IED’ssetting. Changed parameters with different valuesin the tool and in the IED are clearly indicated.

6. Graphical display editorThe graphical display editor is used forconfiguring the display of an IED. The graphicaldisplay consists of one or more pages. A displaypage contains the drawing area where the actualdisplay configuration is made. A display isconfigured by dragging predefined graphicalsymbols from a library to the drawing area. Thedirected link tool can be used to drawconnections between symbols. Every symbol typehas a corresponding representation in both theANSI and the IEC symbol palettes. Symbols canbe connected to the application configuration.

The graphical display editor also supports thereuse of display page templates made for otherIEDs.

7. Hardware configurationThe hardware configuration can be used to get aquick overview of an IED and to add or changehardware modules. It is possible to view the frontand back of the IED including card informationand their slot position. Furthermore it is possibleto compare the hardware configuration used inthe tool to the actual one in the IED.

8. IED configuration comparisonIED comparison is used for comparingconfigurations of two IEDs of the same kind.Comparison can be made offline regardless of theIEDs being in the same PCM600 project or not.Additionally, the configuration of an IED can becompared to a loose PCMI file. When connectedto the IED, it is possible to compare theconfigurations between the IED and the PCM600online. A report of the differences between thetwo different IED configurations is provided as aresult of the comparison.

9. Signal monitoringThe signal monitoring function provides the userwith online information about the measuredvalues and displays the status of binary input andoutput signals of an IED. Furthermore, PCM600facilitates commissioning and testing of physicalconnections via the signal monitoring tool (forcingof signals).

10. Event viewerThe event viewer of PCM600 enables viewing theIED sequence of events information includingtimestamps. The event log facilitates detailed post-fault analyses of faults and disturbances. Eventviewer additionally enables reading the securityevents from the IED.

11. Disturbance handlingPCM600 offers effective handling and monitoringof disturbance records from the IEDs. Thedisturbance files stored in the standardCOMTRADE format allow the user to view thedisturbance record using Wavewin™ software orany commercially available disturbance analyzersupporting the COMTRADE format. If required, the report layout and contents can be adapted touser-specific needs.

By means of the task scheduler of PCM600, therecords can be set to be automatically read fromthe IED. The task scheduler is an independentprocess and does not require PCM600 to beactivated. After receiving the file, PCM600automatically creates a disturbance report, whichcan immediately be forwarded to subscribers by e-mail. Such a notification shortens the time fromdisturbance detection to corrective action.

12. Communication managementThe Communication Management tool is used toconfigure different communication protocols foran IED. DNP3, IEC 60870-5-101/103/104 or

Modbus® are the communication protocols thatcan be engineered. Depending on the usedprotocol, the tool provides different views andcapabilities to support in the selection or mappingof communication signals.
