•A clear understanding of one’s self allows for more positive care giving and

effective teamwork

–Self-Care•One can manage stress, define needs and balance work demands

Role of Patient Care Technicians

• Very critical in meeting patient and family

needs

• Through interactions with PCTs, patients

experience a feeling of being cared for with

dignity

• Need to have strong communication with

nurses to ensure effective patient care

• This communication is a strong indicator of

the team’s cohesion

“It was only then that I realized, that had it not been for both Tina and April and their calm assertive reassurance – the patient would not have consented or cooperated and this "task" would not have been accomplished during our shift as it took all three of us to be successful. After discussing this with the patient’s husband he seemed much more comfortable with the level of care that was provided to his wife today.

I know that as a floor we are looking at timeliness, and at an hour of the day where it may not have been ideal - I wanted to recognize the help that my coworkers offered - not to me, or each other necessarily, but to our patient Becky simply because it was the right thing to do.”
