SMART NotebookSoftwareInstructions.Modules: There are six modules within this tutorial. At any time, you can click the module tabs at the bottom of the page to move to a new tutorial or review a tutorial. Navigational Icons: Other navigational icons are located on each page. These icons include:

Tutorial Instructions

SMART NotebookSoftwareInstructions.Audio Clips & Videos: Within some of the slides there are audio clips to listen to and some videos to view. Click on the icon to hear the audio clips for each slide. Click on the video in order to view the content. Module Quizzes: At the end of each module there will be an interactive quiz reviewing the module. When you are ready to take the module quiz, click the icon. The quiz will open in SMART Notebook. After completing the quiz, click on the tutorial again, which will be minimized at the bottom of the screen.

Notebook File Tabs: Page Sorter

Page Sorter The Page Sorter provides an overview of the current file. It displays all of the pages as thumbnails and automatically updates these thumbnails as you change the contents of the pages. You can open the Page Sorter at any time or hide it to provide additional whiteboard space.

Notebook File Tabs: Gallery

Gallery The Gallery contains clip art, backgrounds, multimedia content, .notebook files and pages that you can use in your lessons, and displays preview images of this content. The Gallery also provides access to the SMART Learning Marketplace and other online resources.

Notebook File Tabs: Attachments

AttachmentsYou can use the Attachments tab to attach a copy of a file, shortcut to a file or link to a Web page to your file. This enables you to easily find and open files and Web pagesduring your lessons.

Properties The Properties tab enables you to format objects on a page. Depending upon the object you select, you can change: The color, thickness and style of linesThe transparency and fill effects of objects The font type, size and style of text The animation of objects

SMART Notebook Tools: Toolbar Buttons

Module #3 Toolbar Buttons The SMART Notebook toolbar enables you to select and use a variety of commands and tools within the SMART Notebook window. You can customize the toolbar so that it includes the tools you use most frequently, control the way the toolbar displays available options, and move the toolbar to the top or bottom of the interactive screen.



Toolbar Buttons: Basic Buttons

Basic ButtonsThese Basic toolbar buttons are likely to be the ones you use most often. They are standard operations or functions that you use to create, open, and save Notebook files, and assist you in editing the content of your Notebook pages.

Toolbar Buttons: Advanced Buttons

Advanced Buttons These Advanced toolbar buttons will allow you to view your Notebook file in several modes. They will also allow you to add a table, activate a SMART document camera, or launch the Screen Capture feature.

Toolbar Buttons: Pen & Shape Buttons

Pen & Shape Buttons The Pen buttons on the toolbar allow you to write & draw with a variety of colors and graphics. The Shape buttons give you the ability to add shapes to the Notebook page. The eraser button lets you remove any writing or drawing from your work area.

Toolbar Buttons: Formatting Buttons

Formatting Buttons The Formatting buttons on the toolbar allow you to change the properties of the text or images on the Notebook page. You can add a text box, edit the text font and color, or add a background color to your page.

Toolbar Pens: Creative Pens

Creative Pens The Creative pens allow you to write on the Notebook page in a variety of styles and graphics, adding an exciting look to your work area.

Toolbar Pens: Shape Recognition Pen

Shape Recognition Pen The Shape Recognition pen converts your hand-drawn lines, circles, squares, rectangles, triangles andarcs into Shape objects. You can then use the Properties tab or toolbar button to fully customize your shapes.

Toolbar Pens: Magic Pen

Magic PenThe Magic Pen can be used in a variety of ways within the SMART Notebook software. You can write or draw with the Magic Pen in its disappearing ink. Or you can choose to use it to spotlight page material or magnify information on the Notebook page.

SMART Notebook Tools: Page Views

Page Views There are four different page views that you can choose to use when working within a SMART Notebook file. All the views can be used to enhance your SMART lessons with your students.

Page Views: Full Screen

Module #5Full Screen ViewThe Full Screen view allows you to view your SMART Notebook page without all the toolbars above and beside the work area. Click the full screen icon on the toolbar to activate this view. Click it again to return to the standard view or click the red x on the full screen toolbar.



Page Views: Shade Screen

Shade Screen View The Shade Screen tool covers an entire page with a shade which is movable up and down (just like a window shade) or left and right. This allows you to reveal information on the Notebook page as it is needed.

Page Views: Transparent Background

Transparent BackgroundThe Transparent Background feature makes the SMART Notebook file transparent, allowing you to interact with other files you have active on your desktop. This allows you the functionality of two programs at once.

Page Views: Dual Page Display

Dual Page DisplayThe Dual Page display is used to display two Notebook pages at the same time, similar to viewing an open book. You can use this feature to write on either page and/or drag and drop objects between the two pages.

Step-by-Step DirectionsFirst, click File from the menu bar, then select SaveNext, the Save or Save As dialog box opensTo store the new Notebook file in a different directory and drive, press the scroll arrow in the Save in box and select a directory and drive for the new Notebook fileThen type a file name in the File name boxLast, click Save

Exporting a FileYou can export yourSMART Notebook file in avariety of formats,including HTML, PDF,Image files, or PowerPointfiles. Click on the icons tofind step-by-stepinstructions for exportingSMART Notebook files intothese formats.

HTML Files: Step-by-Step Directions


To export a file as an HTML file: First, select File > Export > Web Page. Next, browse to the folder where you want to export the file. Then type a name for the file in the File name box. Last, press Save.

Image Files: Step-by-Step Directions


To export a file as an image file First, select File > Export > Image Files. Next, select a folder where you want to export the image files. Then select an Image Type and the image Size. Last, click OK.

PDF Files: Step-by-Step Directions


To export a file as a PDF file First, select File > Export > PDF. Then the Export PDF dialog box appears. Next, select how you want to print the file: Thumbnails Handouts Full Pages Now select what you want to print: To print the entire file, select Print all To print selected pages, select Pages, and then type the page numbers you want to print. Then, press Save. The Print as PDF dialog box appears. Browse to the folder where you want to export the file. Next, type a name for the file in the File name box. Last, press Save.

PowerPoint Files: Step-by-Step Directions


To export a file as a PowerPoint fileFirst, select File > Export > PowerPoint.Then the Save As dialog box appears.Browse to the folder where you want to save the new file.Then type a name for the file in the File name box.Last, press Save.

Final ExerciseSMART Notebook Tutorial: Final ExerciseNow that you have finished the SMART Notebook tutorial, you are ready to create your own Notebook file. Use the requirements below to create a Notebook page.

Notebook page requirements:Insert an image from the Gallery tab. Choose the image from the Science and Technology folder. Use your toolbar buttons to create a star shape. Then use your Properties tab to fill in your shape. Change the color of your shape to yellow.Insert a text box into the Notebook page. Type a message telling me one thing you learned from this tutorial.Use the pen tools (basic or creative) to write your first and last name. Save your Notebook page as a regular notebook file. Use the first initial of your first name and your last name to save the file (ex. csheppard.notebook). Email me your notebook file. [email protected]
