COUNCIL COLUMNNotes from the October 8 meeting: Council finalized the hiring of organist Daniel Corneliussen . Val Sorenson and Pastor Jim shared that the Call Committee met again and is working to develop the full church profile and goals of the call . Some committees still need members . Please talk to Judy Lubben if you are interested in helping with a committee . Grace Tauring and Judy Lubben are revising the list of opportunities for memorials and special gifts . Many of the items in the outdated Memorial Booklet have already been purchased . Full approved meeting minutes can be found in the meeting minute binder in the church office . Respectfully submitted,

Mark Weinhandl, secretary

How would you define the word “stewardship?” Is it a matter of the pocket book or a matter of the heart? One of the best definitions of stewardship I have ever heard is this: “Stewardship is everything I do with my life after I say ‘I believe .’” Stewardship isn’t just about money, nor is it just about the sharing of one’s time or talents . Stewardship is about how one spends one’s life . Stewardship is about gratitude . Stewardship is how we say “Thank You” to God for all that God has done and is doing in our lives . Instead of thinking of stewardship as facts and figures and annual campaigns, what if we thought of stewardship as a way of helping do God’s work in the world? In Matthew 22:37b-39, Jesus says, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind .’ This is the first commandment . And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself .’” It is this love — the love God has for us, the love we have for God, and the love we are called to have for one another — that is the lens through which we view what it means to be a faithful steward . At Peace, we will be celebrating Stewardship Sunday on November 17 . On that day, we will indicate our financial support toward doing God’s work in the world through our church . We will do that by asking each household to fill out a pledge card, which you will receive by mail the week of November 4, and returning that pledge card on November 17 . As you fill in that pledge card, I ask you to pray about how grateful you are for all that God has done for you and whether the amount you plan to give for our ministries in 2014 is reflective of your gratitude . Pastor Jim

Help Make 1,050 Sandwiches for the Minnesota Sandwich Project!Sunday, November 3 from 9:40–10:30 am

Yes, that number is correct! We are making One Thousand and Fifty sandwiches that will be delivered to area homeless shelters! This event is for the entire congregation . We will divide up into three teams and have a little friendly competition as families join together to make 350 sandwiches for their team . This is all part of celebrating the 35th anniversary of Peace . (Get it? 350 sandwiches per team, 35 years?) The event will be fun, upbeat and good for people of all ages . This event will be taking place in between services, so our Sunday School children can participate as well! Last year, 28 people at Peace made 500 sandwiches in 20 minutes . So we think we can more than double that number! On Monday morning, these sandwiches will be sent out to help feed people who are hungry . Please contact Sue Megrund at church if you have any questions!

Peace members enjoyed a fun afternoon at Apple Jack Orchards.

OFFICIAL ACTS

Call Committee UpdateThe Call Committee has met twice in October and we have begun the process to make a call for a Senior Pastor . Our first step is to fill out a profile that explains who we are and where we see our church going . After this profile is submitted, we will be matched up with some candidates . The Call Committee will then sift through them, do interviews, attend services, and pray . When the decision is made, it will be brought to the congregation for a vote . Currently, the Call Committee is working through the profile . This is an integral part of the process . We do need some help from the congregation . We will have some small group discussions, each led by a member of the Call Committee to discuss what the goals of the church are, how we would define Peace as it is and the direction we would like to go . We will hold these discussions on Sunday, November 10 between services . If you cannot attend, there will be a survey available for your input . We are thankful for your support during this time . We are hopeful and excited to move along in this process . Please, feel free to talk with any of the members of the committee with any questions, comments, or concerns .

Join us for a service of thanksgiving and remembrance as we gather together before the national holiday of Thanksgiving . What a wonderful worship opportunity this is to pause and give thanks to God for all God has done for us . Bring your family and friends who will be in town for the Thanksgiving weekend .

Following worship we invite you to a gathering in the narthex to enjoy conversation with our church family over pie, coffee and apple cider . Please bring a pie of your choice to share . We will, of course, hope for some pumpkin pie — but bring any kind of pie that you enjoy . Whipped cream and ice cream to top the pie will be provided!
