Teen Leadership Council

Looking for a unique leadership opportunity? Well, look no further than 4-H! Pender County 4-H is starting a Teen Leadership Council for youth ages 13-18 as of January 1. Join a group of your peers to develop leadership skills, participate in community service projects, and help guide the county 4-H program. This council meets monthly and refreshments are provided. You do not have to be a current 4-H member to join. Some of the projects youth will be working on will be leading a county-wide community ser-vice project and planning various 4-H activities/camps for their peers to take part in. Youth will gain valuable life skills such as leadership, public speaking, setting goals, and becoming workforce ready. The next meeting will be held on November 14, 2012 in the agriculture building auditorium located on 801 S. Walker St. Burgaw, NC. Please RSVP at least one day prior to meeting date to [email protected].

Hopefully you made it out to the NC State Fair this year to see all the wonderful exhibits!

Pender County 4-H was well represented at this year’s fair with 4-H’ers participating in the Youth Market Turkey Show, arts and crafts competition, and the hay bale decorating com-petition! The two 4-H members that participated in the Youth Market Turkey Show were Maggie Ortega and Morgan Wilson. Morgan received 3rd place in her class and Maggie received 14th in hers. This was Morgan’s 2nd year competing and Maggie’s 1st! Liz and Samantha Sharpe participated in the arts and crafts competition with their wonderfully crafted items! Liz won 1st with her braided bracelet! Samantha made a paper pumpkin and received a Cloverbud participation ribbon! Liz also entered a neat recycled flower!

Save the Date– Annual 4-H Achievement Night As we start winding down 2012, Achievement Night plans are being made! Achievement Night will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 6:30pm in the Auditorium. You must call-in and pre-register with the total number of people attending by Friday, January 25th. What is Achievement Night? Achievement Night is an annual event that recognizes 4-H members and volunteers for all their hard work during the previous year. Each 4-H member is given a participation award no matter how active they are. As long as they participated in one 4-H activity, they will be rec-ognized for their participation in 4-H the previous year! This is an event the whole family will enjoy. Dinner and entertainment are provided free of cost! We hope to see you there!
