President’s Message
Welcome to a new year!
Thank you for your patience with me as I worked my way through 2012, and thank you again
for your continued trust in me as we move forward into 2013.
I want to thank those who filled the other officer roles, committee chairs, and all of the com-
mittee memberships through 2012. You are the folks who keep the chapter going and, hopeful-
ly, growing. As we move into 2013, I also want to thank the 2013 officers, including our Sec-
retarial committee members, as well as the 2013 committee chairs. We still need a few com-
mittee chairs– the list is on a later page. Members are always welcome to join a committee.
That’s the kind of active participation and volunteerism that keeps us going strong.
As we move into the new year, we’ll have our installation of the 2013 officers, and then we
have the chance to learn some additional watercolor techniques, along with pen and ink. Dee is
asking for an RSVP, so please let her know if you plan to join us. Knowing the counts allows
us to plan.
And speaking of knowing…please be reminded to check your emails as we move through the
winter months. Should there be a need to cancel or move our meeting, the news will be
communicated by email, for all of our members who have an email address, and I will call
those who do not have an email address.
As you check the calendar, you’ll see that we have our first Field Trip on 2/2, followed by our
annual Memory Box Paint-In, on the 16th. I’m working on the arrangements for the Field Trip,
to Steph’s, and Dottie is working on the Memory Box prep work…don’t forget to take some
boxes to basecoat, so you are ready to paint them in Feb!
We’ll slide on through March, with an evening meeting, while we look for your donations for
our Art Bingo (prizes and desserts). Our Artful Bingo Afternoon will be here sooner than we
think! The folks on this committee are doing a great job. You should reserve your seats now!
Our seminar with Maureen McNaughton is scheduled for almost the end of April. Now that
we’ve opened the registration up to folks who are not PWP members, we hope enough folks
register by our deadline, so we can continue to move forward.
That’s the first 4 months…I’ll recap, for each newsletter, what we did and what we are doing
next, as we move through the year.
A reminder to those are part of the Secretarial Committee. Please check the list, published in
the November newsletter and update your calendars.
A last reminder for this issue…Please be aware of any scents that you may be wearing, whether
from soap, hairspray, shampoo, lotions/creams. Speaking for myself, I am much more sensitive
to scents, and other things, than I used to be. I really don’t want to leave a meeting feeling
sick, or worse, feel like I need stay at a distance.
Thanks for your continued support of your chapter as we move into 2013.

Hello PWP members, Happy New Year to you all. Looking to 2013, your fundraiser com-mittee members have been working diligently. Our major fundraiser for 2013 is "ART BIN-GO" (please check the flyer in the newsletter for time, place and date). We hope you all will enjoy this event with your family and friends. We have set up sub-committees for this event and the chair of each will have sign-up sheets at Jan. and March meetings and also at the Feb. memory box paint-in, so please look them over and sign up to "help out" if you can. Following is a list of the subcommit-tees and their chairs, if you have questions or would like to serve on a committee, please contact the chairman directly. Advance Ticket Sales, License and Publicity-- Hilary Felin-ski; Art Prizes -- Linda Kapp; Bingo Cards and Daubers -- Linda Fleming; Event Workers -- Lois Eckert; Food -- Pat Meyers; and Room Set-up and Raffle Prizes is Bobbi Brady. We are looking for your art to celebrate as the prizes for our BINGO games throughout the afternoon - something you would consider gifting to a good friend would be a guideline to use when thinking of what you can donate for our Art Bingo afternoon. We also are looking to folks to donate desserts – those that can be easily wrapped or bagged into single serv-ing sizes. Individual pieces of artwork can be brought to the January meeting, 1/19 and/or the Febru-ary Paint-in, 2/16 and/or dropped off at Linda Kapp’s house on Friday, 3/1 between 10am and 7pm and/or you can contact Linda directly 717-580-8547 to make other arrangements to have it picked up or dropped off at Linda’s house. You can reserve your seat(s) now by sending a check to Hilary – see the flyer included in this newsletter for the form to use. The Admission price covers your 22 Bingo games and a door prize ticket. We are also having a Raffle and you may purchase those tickets, as well as 50/50 tickets, separately from your Admission. We hope to be doing the setup on Friday night, and doors open to the public at noon on Saturday. We will have food available for purchase from noon to 3:30. We will play our first Special Game, right on the dot of 1:00, immediately followed by our first 10 regular games. We’ll have a break (buy more food!), then our second Special game and then our second set of 10 regular games. What do we do if more than one person calls Bingo for any given game? We’re going to have a second chance drawing…anyone who has BINGO but is not the final winner for any game, will be entered into a second Chance drawing. Once we finish all 20 regular games, we will have our Second Chance drawing, then we will move right on through our Raffle drawing, 50/50 drawing and Door Prize drawing. We should be done by 4. Don’t forget too that we will have to do some cleanup…plans call for the cleanup to be from 4 to 5. We need to be totally out the door by 5pm. Wishing you all a great 2013 and hope to see you Jan 19th.

We invite you to attend a great seminar
in April with Maureen McNaughton.
Maureen is known for her beautiful
strokework. Maureen is delighted
when a student creates specific shapes
with one stroke of the brush, using
pressure and release to form the
shapes.
Please note that the weekend date has
been changed due to a conflict in our
area. Maureen is now coming to Mes-
siah Village, Mechanicsburg, PA for a
three day seminar on April 19, 20 and
21. Registration is now open and
forms will be available at the November meeting.
PWP members have priority for registration until 12/15/12, when we will open the
seminar to non-members and the general public. There is a minimum and a maximum
number of students for this seminar, if we don’t have the minimum by Feb 1, 2013, we
will be cancelling the seminar and refunding all money. So, please, don’t delay in
registering for this great seminar.
We will also be offering three easy payments with your first payment due by Decem-
ber 1, 2012; the other two payments are due Jan 1 and Feb 1, 2013.
Any questions, please contact Linda Kapp at [email protected] or 717-580-

In less than four months, Maureen McNaughton will be joining our chapter for a three day seminar on April 19, 20 and 21. We still have seats available, but don’t hesitate and mail your registration form in as soon as possible. Mid-December we opened registration to the public. This past year, we struggled getting enough painters to make our seminars successful. The board has decided that we need a mini-mum number of 20 painters by February 1 or the seminar will be can-celled and all funds refunded. Please consider joining us and paint-ing one, two or three days with Maureen. If you elected to make 3 easy payments, remember that your second payment is due January 1 and the final payment is due February 1. These payments should be mailed to my address; 21 Winding Hill Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Any questions, please contact Linda Kapp at [email protected] Linda Kapp 2013 Seminar Chairperson

CUMBERLAND COUNTY CHILDRENS CHRISTMAS PARTY
Lois Eckert, Barb Lehman, Joyce Gutierrez, Joyce’s sister, Cindy Black , and Hilary Felinski participated in
the Cumberland Country Children & Youth Services Christmas party, on Saturday, December 8. There were
about 50 children who enjoyed our foam ornament craft activities, including some who, at first, seemed to
think they were a bit ‘above’ our of-
fering! Some of the ornaments that
the kids made were beautiful, some
were funny, all were creative. Maybe
we’ve helped someone on their path
to creativity by our participation in
this Christmas Party over these past
so many years…..thanks for your
help with this annual com-
munity service activity.

Our first Paint-In will be the Memory Box on February 16 and our April
Paint-in has been moved to June 15th to accommodate our Maureen
McNaughton seminar.
Our other Paint-In dates are August 17 & October 19, 2013
First field trip for 2013!
For 2013, we are looking first at a very late winter/early spring kind of field trip to Steph’s. The date is Saturday, February 2, 2013. Maurice and his staff are already planning our make it/take it class. As we get closer to February, we will work the details out about who is driving with whom. As of now, I expect that we would start class when we arrive, and finish early enough to allow for some shopping! We will want to leave the Mechanicsburg area by 9 on Feb. 2 and will likely be leaving Steph’s somewhere around 2. Generally, I plan for an hour in each direction, from Mechanicsburg/Camp Hill. Steph’s is located on Route 896 just south of the
Rockvale Outlets in Lancaster, right next door to the
Sight and Sound theatre.
Scharff Brushes Our first – and ongoing- fundraiser for 2013 is with Scharff Brushes (www.artbrush.com ). The folks at Scharff allow us, as a chapter, to purchase their brushes for a huge discount. We can pass most of that discount on to you – and the chapter benefits (dollar wise) from the difference. We need a minimum of $300 retail to start this process moving – and you all know how easy it is to spend some money on good, long lasting, brushes! Here’s an example: The brush retails for $10.00. You will pay $8.00 if you order through PWP. PWP will be charged $7.00 for the brush, and PWP will gain $1.00 for our Ways and Means funds. Shipping will need to be figured in to the orders, and the stated cost if $15.00. That $15.00 ship-ping will be prorated amongst those who order, for each order. We are starting this fundraiser with our January 2013 meeting. If you cannot attend the meeting, please visit the Scharff website to see the retail prices on their brushes. While you may order directly from Scharff for a 25% discount, ordering through the chapter helps bring your price down even more.
Hilary will have the retail price list at the January (and subsequent meetings). Please be prepared to pay for your order when you give it to Hilary. Your shipping will be added to the money owed, but will be determined based on the number of people involved and the size of each order. So, Hilary will let you know, by email, when she consolidates the orders. Scharff brushes are preferred by such artists as Brenda Stewart and Arlene
Linton. Want to write the alphabet with only one brush load – you can do it
with a Scharff!

Memory Boxes
End of Year Report for SDP 2012
* 83 Memory Boxes were painted in 2012.
* It probably takes 4 to 6 hours to paint a Memory Box so this would be the equivalent of 332 to 498 hours of volunteer time.
* We did not purchase any boxes in 2012.
* We delivered 124 boxes to our 4 grateful hospitals.
Dottie Shultz
Memory Box Chair
Membership Report Thank you to everyone who renewed their membership for 2013. Currently we have 61 members, most of those were renewals. Please help me welcome Ethel Frey and Vickie Geiman who decided to join SDP and PWP after the meeting in November. Please be sure to introduce yourself at the next meeting to these ladies. Remember, your 2013 dues were due by December 1, but it isn’t too late to renew to con-tinue receiving an email with our newsletter and save money to join us at the upcoming Maureen McNaughton seminar in April. (Can you tell that I will be chairing Seminars in 2013?) Thank you for all the support you have shared during my two year term as VP of Member-ship. Please continue your support with Barb Lehman as she will be initiated as the VP Membership for 2013. Linda Kapp
