Watch officially launched its website at a meeting heldat the Vera School on Thursday evening last week.Residents will be able to stay up to date with activity
in their neighbourhood, report crime and advertisetheir businesses on the site as it also offers a classifiedssection.LanRoe Neighbourhood Watch chairperson Ahmad
Gangat urged residents to visit the site to ensure it wasa sustainable site.“This is a work in progress and we urge our residents
to share the site and visit it as often as possible. Thisway we will all be up to date with events and activitiesin our area but we will also in that way ensure that thiswill benefit us in the long run,” Gangat said.The site, which was developed by Watch member
Samier Saban, has been up for just less than twomonths.“Tell uswhat youwant andwhat you don’twant. This
is our site and wewant it to work for everybody,” Gang-at added.The Watch also announced its plan to install signage
to show that the area is patrolled by the Watch.“For now we are planning to have 48 durable signs
put up in the area. There are also future plans to havesurveillance cameras put up in the area so we may bea proactive instead of a reactive community,” Gangatadded.The Watch was established last year after residents
became “nervous” due to a spike in crime in the area.“Since LanRoe started as a neighbourhood watch in

Alexander Sinton High School in Craw-ford boasts the best high school dance
crew in Cape Town – again.Its team took home top honours in a
dance crew competition, called 021BDC, atthe Joseph Stone Auditorium recently.
The team from Prince George PrimarySchool won the primary school category.
The competition, now in its fourth year,is a platform for the youth to showcase theirtalent, as well as develop team-buildingskills, discipline and creative problem-solv-ing.
Alexander Sinton has won previously aswell. Previous winners of the competitionorganised by Project 021 have also come
from Lavender Hill and Bellville Technicalhigh schools.
180 primary and high school pupils fromacross Cape Town took part in this year’sevent. A packed auditorium witnessed anamazing display of talent. In addition to thecompetitive dance pieces there were alsospecial guest artists who performed solodance pieces, inspirational songs and Latinand ballroom numbers.
The judges had a tough task in choosingthewinners of fivehoursof competition, butthey eventually selected the three topschools in each of the categories.
After deliberation, and adding to the dra-mabykeeping the audience in suspense, thewinning crews were announced.
The top three crews in the primaryschools category came from Plumstead Pre-
paratory, Levana Primary and PrinceGeorge Primary schools.
In the high schools category the top threecrews were from Northpine (XO Kiddz),Bellville Technical and Alexander Sintonhigh schools.
One member of the Alexander Sintoncrew, Tiffany Braaf, also won a DamelinCollege bursary to the value of R10 000, thusmaking her day twice as special.

At least a car a day stolen in LansdowneThe Lansdowne policing precinct is cur-rently seeing a spike in the theft of cars.This spike has been happening sinceMarch this year.
According to Lansdowne police spokes-person Sergeant Nkululeko Mnyaka po-lice reports reflect that at least one cargets stolen in the precinct daily.
“The most problematic places are theentertainment places, night clubs, thetrain station and also business premises– in the parking areas. Mostly old cars aretargeted, such as Toyotas, Isuzus, Volks-wagens, Mazdas, Fords and Nissans,”Mnyaka says.

“Some parking areas have car guardsand it is not understandable how the ve-hicles go missing under the watch of thecar guards. The Manenberg steering committee hashit back at Cosatu, accusing the trade
unions organisation of using the committeein its political battle without permission.
Steering committee chairperson MelanieManuel says the committee was not consult-ed before a Cosatu press conference heldoutside the Manenberg police station twoweeks ago.
During its press conference Cosatu “bat-ted” for the steering committee, she says, inregards to the mayoral urban regenerationprogramme.
Cosatu regional secretary Tony Ehren-reich said on the day “the press conferenceof the Cape Flats communities with the Ma-nenberg community is in relation to theneed for equality of the areas which ad-dresses apartheid spatial and crime pat-terns”.
In a statement he “condemned” premierHelen Zille and mayor Patricia de Lille fortheir “failure to consult on Manenbergplans and dividing Cape Flats communities,by determining which areas will get sup-port, if they play ball”.
“Firstly, there must be consultation withall the role players all of the time, and notonly now when the DA sees no way to ad-dress the crisis in the society and they con-sult some and favour mainly their pals inthe area. Any initiative that is taken mustbe part of a city-wide plan that sees all areasincluded, as the gangs are syndicated andspread to all the areas, and pressure in onepoint alone will just move the activities toother areas,” Ehrenreich said.
In response Manuel says: “We were not
approached by Cosatu at all before they de-cided to host the press conference. We willnot tolerate being used as political pawnsand in such are saying that the Manenbergproject steering committee is apolitical.”
She adds the steering committee has beeninvolved with a lengthy process which in-volves the violence prevention through ur-ban upgrading (VPUU) initiative.
“As the duly-elected steering committeemembers, we acknowledge the communityaction plan, referred to as the CAP docu-ment, in its draft format and the work andhours that went into its formation by theManenberg community, the City of CapeTown’s two assigned officials and the VPUUfor the last year,” Manuel says.
“The Manenberg steering committee isan organised structure into which a lot ofplanning has gone. We work from the bot-tom up and consult a lot with the communi-ty. This was not done when Cosatu came tothe community after the joint press confer-ence held on 3 August with Zille and De Lil-le,” she adds.
The VPUU and the Manenberg projectsteering committee announced the progresson the Manenberg upgrade plans at thatfirst press conference, including the estab-lishment of a new healthcare facility, a vo-cational school and a satellite law enforce-ment station.
“There was no consultation or participa-tion with the greater community of Manen-berg or with the project steering committeeon the part of Cosatu. Therefore Cosatu can-not speak on behalf of the people of Manen-berg,” Manuel says.
“We only waited this long to respond tothe statement because we wanted to re-spond as an entity.”

Steering committee‘won’t play politics’
Two wanted for cigarettes robberyA British American Tobacco (BAT) truckwas robbed in Lansdowne on Thursdaymorning last week.
Lansdowne police spokesperson Ser-geant Nkululeko Mnyaka says the 32-year-old driver of the truck was delivering ciga-rettes at a store when he was hijacked bytwo unknown men.
“He was delivering cigarettes at New Sil-vertree Store in Lansdowne Road. When hecame out of the shop he was approached bytwo unknown men who threatened himwith a firearm.
“One suspect got into the driver’s sideand drove with the BAT driver in the truckto Quick Road and offloaded seven boxes ofcigarettes worth R60 000 into a white Toyo-ta Conquest,” Mnyaka says.
According to Mnyaka the suspects alsotook cash from the truck and fled in an un-known direction.
“The suspect who drove the vehicle waswearing a navy blue jacket and had a fire-arm tucked in at the front of his pants.”
A case of armed robbery was opened forinvestigation. No shots were fired and noinjuries were sustained during the inci-dent.
No arrests were made.. In another incident on Wednesday even-ing last week, police officers were patrol-ling in the Lansdowne area as part of Oper-ation Combat when they received a tip-offthat drugs were being sold at a property.
“At Arba Street in Rylands officers wereinformed about the house and went to in-vestigate. There were four women and oneman, who introduced himself as the ownerof the house. Police then asked permissionto search the home, which was granted.They started searching the house andfound ten plastic bags of tik weighing 1kgwith an estimated street value of R1 000,”Mnyaka confirms.
A 46-year-old man was arrested on char-ges of dealing in drugs and possession ofdrugs.
The suspect was due to appear in Wyn-berg Magistrate’s Court last week.

memberhis nameor address, and canbe-come disoriented, even in familiar pla-ces. Wandering among people with de-mentia is also dangerous, but there areways to help prevent it.
Who is at risk?Anyone who has memory problems
and is able to walk is at risk for wander-ing. Even in the early stages of dementia,a person can become disoriented or con-fused for a period of time. It’s importantto plan ahead for this type of situation.Be on the lookout for the followingwarn-ing signs:. Returns from a regular walk ordrive later than usual.. Tries to fulfill former obligations,such as going to work.. Tries or wants to “go home”, evenwhen at home.. Is restless, paces or makes repeti-tive movements.. Has difficulty locating familiarplaces, like the bathroom or bedroom.. Asks the whereabouts of current orpast friends and family.. Acts as if doing a hobby or chore,but nothing gets done.. Appears lost in a new or changedenvironment.
Tips to prevent wanderingWandering canhappen, even if youare
the most diligent of caregivers. Use thefollowing strategies to help lower thechances:. Carry out daily activities. Having aroutine can provide structure.. Identify the most likely times of daythat wandering may occur.. Activities and exercise can reduceanxiety, agitation and restlessness.. Reassure the person if he feels lost,abandoned or disoriented.. If a person with dementia wants toleave to “go home” or “go to work”don’t correct him. Rather say: “Weare staying here tonight. We can gohome in the morning after a goodnight’s rest.”. Ensure all basic needs are met. Hasthe person gone to the bathroom? Ishe thirsty or hungry?. Avoid busy places that are confus-
ing and can cause disorientation, suchas shopping malls, grocery stores orother busy venues.. Place locks out of the line of sight.Install locks and slide bolts onexterior doors.. Kenwyn residents managed to gather agroup of people on Sunday to do another
clean-up at the Kenwyn Nature Park onSunday.Residents braved the elements and
donned their Wellies to clean up the water-logged area.Dylan Barsby from the Friends of Kenil-
worth Racecourse Conservation Area saidtheKenwynNaturePark is a community in-itiative to turn Chukker Road Open Spaceinto a nature park.“We also want to use the space for biodi-
versity awareness as well as for use by thecommunity and even by shoppers from Ac-cess Park and Kenilworth Centre becausethe land is situated right next door to a ma-jor shopping hub. The beauty of this propos-al is that, not only is it likely to be sustaina-ble, but it actually killsmanybirdswith onestone,” Barsby said.In terms of biodiversity, Barsby explains
that the park would conserve critically en-
dangered Cape Flats Sand Fynbos and CapeLowland Freshwater Wetlands.“It also lies exactly on theM5biodiversity
corridor, plugging a gap in this string of na-ture reserves. This corridor is also a RiverCorridor. The Kromboom River has its up-per reaches in the proposed Kenwyn parkbefore flowing northwards along the M5,joining Black River at the Two Rivers Ur-banPark. Thehealth of any river systemde-pends on its upper reaches, so our park iscrucial,” he explains.The proposed conservation area will also
incorporate environmental education asthe space lies alongside Oaklands HighSchool which has shown an enormous in-terest in the environment and has even at-tempted to construct its ownwetland on theschool property,” Barsby adds.He adds the community has also ex-
pressed having a simple circular asphalt-cycling and jogging track.“Of course this would serve to bring the

“Act like a lady.”It’s a refrain every woman has heard at least once in
her life.So often uttered by our mothers, grandmothers and
many patriarchs, the outdated refrain has done nothingbut add unrealistic expectations onto women’s roles.Recently, social media outcry was sparked by a Wom-
en’s Day advert by Bic, which called on women to “looklike a girl, act like a lady, think like a man and work likea boss”.Women are told to think a certain way, to look a certain
way and, most importantly, to behave a certain way.All while holding down jobs, running homes and caring
for families. They are expected to look young and fit,showing no signs of the children they have given birthto or the tragedy they may have experienced. There is nospace for wrinkles, whether from frowning or smiling.Women have to talk a certain way and dress a certain
way.It’s an expression that tells women to behave within
limitations. It tells women to pretend to be somethingtheymaynot be. It forceswomen to sacrifice their unique-ness to fit into a preconceived mould.And often, to be these things, women must metaphori-
cally chop off parts of themselves to fit the cast.Loud, passionate, determined, expressive, protective
women are forced to act demurely and submissively.It is past the time we start to move away from imposing
outdated rules on howwomen look and behave. Shouldn’twe honour strength and individuality in our women,rather than asking them to conform?Those strong, passionate women are the ones who
shape the world – surely we should be encouraging ourgirls to grow in that direction?Forget being a lady.Being yourself will do you more favours.

To mysurprise I received a call 10 minuteslater to say they had found my wallet.Unfortunately for me, all the cash wasgone. Tackle cable theft from the other angleWe continually hear about cable theftand how it is debilitating everythingaround us and costing us all a fortune inlost time, lost contracts, lost wages andthe cost of repairs.I realise that to patrol or police every
cable installation is impossible, but whycan we not attack it from the other end?Where is all this stolen copper beingsold and to whom? There must behundreds of thieves but there cannot be
that many buyers or processors.Why can we not close down the
trading in copper by scrap dealers? Iknow they will bleat that it is theirlivelihood, but it is mostly illegal, soclose it! Where are the yards selling itlocally or exporting it? Close down theexport of copper, shut the door!Is this is possible, and if not, why not?

Ecigarettes shouldn’t be marketedThe billboard on the N1 with the mes-sage “E-cigarettes save lives” is highlymisleading because it can help to savethe lives of existing tobacco smokers.This message can be easily misinter-
preted by our highly daring and adven-turous youth that e-cigarettes are safe.I do not agree with the advertisers
that nicotine is a way of calming thenerves. It is the withdrawal of nicotinefrom the body that makes smokers feelirritable and restless and sets up thecraving for another cigarette.It is not only the nicotine that calms
smokers, it is also the effect of the handmoving the cigarette up and down,which diverts the mind and offerstemporary relief to the user from astressful situation.
Flavours are another gimmick toattract people to take to it. Whilste-smokers might enjoy the flavours,non-smokers might just find a theatrefull of a wide range of aromas irritating.If the intention is to deliver nicotine,then where is the need for flavours?Nicotine should not be allowed to be
deemed safe because the chemicalnicotine is highly addictive and is agateway drug to harder drugs.Finally, we should prevent the liberal
advertising of e-cigarettes before we landup in a situation where lobbyists fore-cigarettes become so powerful that itbecomes impossible to stop them – likewe are currently finding with theadvertisers of alcohol.

BabooncapersOn Women’s Day public holiday friendsinvited me to join them on an outing toCape Point nature reserve. There aresigns every few hundred metres warningvisitors to not feed baboons. We threeCapetonians read the signs casually aswe were well-aware of baboon capers,having lived here for many years. Wesaw troops of baboons and enjoyed theantics as babies chased each otherthrough the bush and over the road.The troop moved off and we stopped
for lunch. As if summoned by a dinnergong, a teenage baboon broke away fromthe troop and loped towards us. Hemoved amazingly fast and although aparks board employee shouted at us toclose the doors, Aap se Kind outfoxed usall and leapt into the car. He snatched anegg roll while we swore, shouted andgesticulated.He left and moved off down a bank
with his (and our) lunch.We thought that was it. No sign of
baboon. The driver opened his door toget rid of the leftover egg and bread roll,and suddenly there was Baboon again –as swift and graceful as a surfer negotiat-ing a wave.More cursing, shouts and gesticulating.
A visitor saw our dilemma and ran upwaving a rod. Baboon loped off for thesecond time.We gratefully got back in the car and
immediately noticed the pong. Baboonhad lost control of his bowels in all thedrama and done a number two on thepassenger seat.Fortunately my friends live at Scarbo-
rough and after a shower and the loan ofclean clothes we could laugh.Lesson learned: Never underestimate a
baboon’s intelligence or ingenuity andnever think you can get back into the carin time if one starts moving towards youand you have been unwise enough to getout of it.

wary of criminals using skimming devi-ces to conduct fraud.To raise awareness against falling victim
to fraud, residents have been encouraged tobecome familiar with information on skim-ming devices.Grassy Park police spokesperson War-
rant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith says crimi-nals increasingly make use of magneticstrip card readers, also known as skimmingdevices ormagnetic swipe readers, to dupli-cate credit and debit cards.A skimming device is a type of card read-
er which records the data encoded on theback of a card (on the magnetic strip) whena card is swiped through it. The data is usedto duplicate the card and to steal the fundsin the account of the card holder.
Skimming“Skimming can occur when an unsus-
pecting card holder swipes their cardthrough an illegal skimming device at-tached to an ATM or when another personwho, for instance, is working at a retailer,restaurant, hotel or who is impersonatinga bank official, illegally swipes the cardthrough a hand-held card reader,” Klein-smith explains.Criminals download the data recorded
from the card onto a computer to manufac-ture a fraudulent duplicate card or cards.“Skimming of the card can therefore oc-
cur when a card holder is still in possessionof their card or when another person ishanded the card to facilitate a transaction.”Kleinsmith adds that in South Africa
criminals mainly use two methods of skim-ming: A hand-held skimming device andhigh-tech ATM devices.“The hand-held skimming devices are
small and operated by hand. The criminalneeds to acquire a card and would then
swipe it through the device by hand,” sheexplains.“With thehigh-techATMdevices they are
speciallymoulded to be attached to anATM,often in conjunction with other recordingdevices suchas spy cameras orkeypadover-lays aimed at recording PIN numbers. Thecard is not held by the criminal at all.“These devices are oftenmodified to such
an extent that it is difficult to distinguishbetween an ATM that has a skimming de-vice attached to it and one that has not beentampered with,” Kleinsmith says.Residents are encouraged to remain vigi-
lant when using their cards. If it is suspect-ed that your card has been duplicated oryour account details have been shared, callyour bank immediately to stop the card andreport the incident to police.
Residents are cautioned to be wary of ATMskimming devices which could lead to theftfrom your bank account.

Firsttheywill buy cheaper versions ofwhatthey already eat, if they are not eatingthe most basic to start with. They willthen reduce the dietary diversity andswitch to buying foods that are caloriedense andwill fill you up, reducemealsizes, reduce the number of meals, al-locate food in households to thosedeemedmost important, and ultimate-ly go without,” she says.From2011 toApril this year, the cost
of thehealthy eating plan increased by36%, a faster rate than general infla-tion. A household would have to havean income of about R5630 monthly.

Big band enthusiasts are in for a treatwhen the 10th Brass Band Extravaganza
comes to Artscape Theatre on Saturday.Formally known as Kader Miller’s Brass
Band Pops, the annual big band festival hasbecome a collaboration between Artscapetheatre andwell-knownband leader and jazzmusician Ian Smith.The purpose of the concert has always
been to provide a platform for emergingyoung bands. While continuing to do this,the showcase has also got a new look thisyear under Smith’s baton.Asdirector, Smithhas takenamore select-
ive approach to the production, while alsoencouraging more collaboration between
bands. The Extravaganza is an opportunityto bring together bands that wouldn’t neces-sarily be seen on the same stage.The Wynberg Girls’ High School Jazz
Band and Steenberg High School’s wind andjazz bands perform alongside communityproject bands like Wellington Big Band andDelft Big Band.They will be joined by Brass Band Theory
and the Santam District Big Band, whichhave both evolved from minstrel groups.Although these groups come from differ-
ent backgrounds, they share the commonali-ty of having all worked with Smith in somecapacity, from training and development tomentorship.
The six orchestras have participated inworkshops with Smith throughout the year.Their concert on Saturday will feature a
mix of instrumental, vocal jazz, popularlight classical music with an Andrew LloydWebbermedley, a fewMichael Bublé and El-la Fitzgerald favourites, a Stevie Wonder se-lection, a medley of Abba hits and JohannStrauss’s Radetzky March.The production will end off with a bang

17-year-old Che February is the People’sPostLet’s Play Sport Star of themonth forJuly.Che lives, eats and sleeps hockey. His
greatest dream is to play professional clubhockey in Europe or Australia and to repre-sent South Africa at the Olympic games.“I would like to start playing hockey full-
time, professionally if possible, even if thatmeans staying inEurope todo soandcomingback to South Africa during the Europeanhockey league off-season,” he says.Che, who attends Wynberg Boys’ High
School, started playing hockey in Grade 4 atSomerset House in Somerset West when hewas 10 years old.In 2011 Che was selected to captain his
school’s u.13Ahockey side andhewas select-ed for the Western Province u.13A hockeyteam. In 2012 he was selected for the PaulRoos Gymnasium u.14A hockey team andthe Boland u.14A Pinotage hockey team.Chemoved toWynberg Boys’ High to start
Grade 9 in 2013. Here he was selected for theschool’s u.16A hockey team and theWesternProvince u.16A interprovincial tournamenthockey team. The team won gold in Johan-nesburg.Last year Chewas selected for the school’s
first team and again for the WP u.16A inter-provincial tournament team.At this hockey tournament in Durban the
team won gold again. Che was the top goalscorer and voted best striker.He was also selected for the South African
u.16A hockey team.At the pro series indoor national tourna-
ment last year Che was selected for the SAu.17 indoor hockey team.Che still plays for his school’s first team
and also plays for the second team of WPCricket Club’s hockey club.
He was on the WP u.18A interprovincialtournament team that played in Bloemfon-tein earlier this year. There he was selectedfor the SA u.18A team.Che says he chose hockey because he fell
in love with the fast pace and adrenalinewhen he first played it as a 10-year-old.According to him it takes hard work and
dedication if you want to be good at hockey.He adds that it is difficult to balance academ-ics and training.“This year I am fortunate enough to be
coached by one of the best hockey coachesin South Africa, Paul Revington. All ourtraining sessions are high performance andthe training sessions are intense.“At school we train every day of the week,
except for a Tuesday, and then I also traintwice a week for two hours each after schoolat the WPCC hockey club.“It is difficult to balance hockey training
and academics. Because I don’t have muchtime at home to put in the hours for studyingI try my best to listen during lessons atschool. I try to understand as much of thework as possible from the very beginning inclass, so when it comes to exam time I revisea lot instead of restudying my work. In thisway I use most of my time after school forhockey training.”He says it is also important to live your
passion, dream big and enjoy your sport.“Inmy case, goals are very important. The

TownMarathon aims to impact theeconomy this year by again boost-ing various sectors in the localcommunity.The 42km race was relaunched
last yearwith a newheadline spon-sor and a vision of making a valua-ble contribution as a world-classsports event.Achieving immediatesuccess, the race was recognisedby global governing body the Inter-national Association of AthleticsFederations (IAAF).Having set a goal of being includ-
ed among the world’s most prestig-ious road races, this year’s eventwas recently awarded silver statusby the IAAF, the only marathon inAfrica to achieve this status.“Our goal now is to achieve
IAAF gold status,” says Janet Wel-ham, race director for the CapeTown Marathon.“Ultimately, we want to be con-
sidered among the best 42km racesin the world. This event is morethan just a road race; we want tobe able to leverage off it in orderto meaningfully promote andchange, to contribute towards theeconomy and make an impact onsociety. We have taken giant stri-des, it is only our second year andwe can already see how much dif-ference it has made.”The marathon’s executive com-
mittee hopes to offer as much of acontribution to the Western Capeacross various sectors as othermarathon and ultra-marathon ra-ces around the country haveachieved.Races that have created a model
with this approach, boasting en-tries of between 5 000 and 23 000runners, include:. Soweto Marathon. Gauteng Marathon
. Durban City Marathon

events in a number of differentsports have also established them-selves as world-class festivals:. Cape Epic mountain bike stagerace (1 200 participants). Cape Town Cycle Tour (35 000participants). Two Oceans Marathon (28 000participants)The success of these events,
which all have entry limits for lo-gistical and safety reasons, hingeson attracting local and foreign in-terest. This, in turn, creates a spin-off effect by boosting multiple sec-tors, including tourism and trans-port.“We believe we can add to and
support what has already beenachieved by existing events in or-der to provide real support to localcommunities,” Welham says.
Sport as vehicle“Studies have shown sport and
recreation can be used as a vehicleto provide a significant financialboost. We are confident we willcontinue to achieve this goal as therace expands.”Research presented at last year’s
inaugural Cape Town Peace Con-ference, held on the sidelines of theCape Town Marathon, showed ma-jor opportunities existed to posi-tion sport and recreation as a sec-tor with a comparative advantagein economic growth. The researchalso showed the potential to in-crease employment and social de-velopment.“The actual impact of sport and
recreation is largely unknown andvastly underestimated,” the find-ings stated.However, a 2011 recreation study
by the City of Cape Town found theparticipation rate of adults in thecity in sport and recreation was27%, andparticipation trendswererelatively low compared to otherprovinces.Despite the low rate of activity,
the contribution of sport and recre-ation to theWesternCape economywas estimated at R8bn per year.This showed the tremendous po-tential of high-profile, mass partic-ipation sports events.
Sport touristsSport and recreation could also
be directly linked to tourismtrends, the Peace Conferencefound, with a large number of peo-ple visiting the province and otherareas around the country as sporttourists.
South Africa has previouslyhosted numerous successful majorinternational events:. Rugby World Cup, 1995 (1.1mtickets sold for live matches). All Africa Games, 1999 (25 000foreign spectators, athletes and of-ficials). Cricket World Cup, 2003 (627 000tickets sold). Fifa Soccer World Cup, 2010(3.1m tickets sold)All these events attracted fans
andvisitors fromaround the globe,and their success created a spring-board for annual local festivalshoping to create similar interest.While these events attract more
visitors than annual road races, itwould be a once-off competition,whereas annual events such as theCape Town Marathon have the po-
tential to make a regular economicimpact. Last year’s race attractedover R22m in advertising valuealone in the four-month build-up tothe race and raised over R350 000for charity.Yegs Ramiah, chief executive of
Sanlam Brand, says: “The poten-tial impact of hosting Africa’s onlyIAAF-accredited marathon is un-deniable.“Besides providing a unique ex-
