Performance Task:Unit 1

Person one Adversity(s): Jonas, The Giver.Jonas doesn’t live like all of us today.

He lives in a community opposite of ours, where there are no problems; Such as hunger, poverty, the feeling of pain, or the feeling of love, etc; His life is actually organized.

When He is picked to be the receiver, he thought he would fail like the last because he didn’t know what it meant to have the ‘Capacity to see beyond’; although he remembered some things changing in his life like the apple he was playing catch with; or the feeling of pain . He also learns that he will become more distant from his friends, his family, and his community.

Jonas receives memories as apart of his training from the present receiver, known to him as The Giver. Some of the memories are pleasant and enjoyable like sledding in the snow, colors, love, holidays, etc., but in order for Jonas to become the Receiver, he must have all memories. He experienced Hunger, pain, warfare, etc. His life begins to change. As he receives, he learns more, and as he learns more, he see’s his community in a different way.

Person One Overcoming Adversity(s): Jonas, The Giver.

When Jonas receives as many memories as possible, and discovers what ‘Releasing’ is, he and The Giver make a plan to change the community by letting Jonas escape to the beyond to release the memories into the communities. Also he planned to save the life of Baby Gabriel that was soon to be released.

Person Two Adversity(s): Victor, “Seventh Grade”

Victor is starting Seventh Grade, and he has a crush on Teresa, a girl he knew since catechism school and he says to himself that this year she will be his.

He tries to talk to Teresa but he gets choked up. He notices that if he does that he will embarrass himself in front of her. He tries to impress her by speaking French, but he doesn’t do so well.

Person Two Overcoming Adversity(s): Victor, “Seventh Grade”

While in French class, Victor wanted to impress Teresa by speaking French. When he was called to respond to the French Teacher in French, but he didn’t know how to respond , everyone waited. He responded uncertain, and the Teacher had come to conclusion that victor didn’t know French, so he continued on with class. Victor became very embarrassed.

When class was over, Victor was one of the first out of class. He had to return for his math book, and he saw Teresa still in The classroom. Teresa complimented his response earlier in class when Victor knew that she didn’t know that he was wrong. He hoped the French teacher didn’t say anything, and the French teacher just flipped through his papers humming with a smile bringing back memories. Victor and Teresa walked out of class together and Teresa asked if Victor could teach her French. He thought Seventh Grade wouldn’t be bad after all.

Person Three Adversity(s): Jimmy Valentine“Retrieved Reformation”

Jimmy Valentine has just been let go from his sentence after a pardon was signed by the governor. He was sentenced for safe cracking banks. When he had left the jail, he went back to where he lived to get his suit case. A week had passed and there had been many reports of safe’s being broken into , and because of Jimmy’s Reputation, all eyes turned to him. A man named Ben Price, an investigator, has been in interest of Jimmy and wants him to serve his full sentence, but first he has to have evidence that the safe break-ins were behind Jimmy.

Person Three overcoming Adversity(s): Jimmy Valentine “Retrieved Reformation”

Just before Jimmy had broke into Adams Bank, he saw the owners daughter walk into it and he fell in love.

He had changed then, he didn’t want to pursue his safe cracking anymore. He changed his name to Ralph D. Spencer, opened a shoe store, and successfully got engaged to Annabel Adams. He had changed his life around.

Reflection.

The Giver (Jonas): He overcame adversity by revealing the truth about his community , and the braveness he needed to go through the Memories.

“Seventh Grade” (Victor): He was brave enough to try and talk to Teresa, and he had help from the French teacher, so Victor knew he could trust him.

“Retrieved Reformation” (Jimmy Valentine) : He gave up his old life to start a new one all because he had fallen in love and he didn’t want the old “safe cracking” Person he was to interfere with the person he had become.
