Quality of media production does not necessarily need to drop.

With so much media and content available, we need to understand how this content is organised.

Bruns claims that the very concepts of ‘produsage’ (simultaneous consumption and production of media) are the best means by which to organise data and knowledge.

This, in turn, creates the concept of the ‘folksonomy’.

Folksonomies are better suited to the internet because they are more adaptable to its constantly evolving nature.

They create communities of people who can tag and link to content that can be shared with like-minded people without sacrificing individuality.

Advantages: requires few learned rules, is produced out of self-interest, its value grows, allows for multiple tags and categorisations, and does not break if data is incomplete.

Metadata used by the site is therefore generated by users and music fans through simply listening to their music rather than any active content generation.

This metadata is collated with the musical preferences of other users.
