Sun.     April 18             vs. N.Y. Islanders

The Flyers and Islanders have a history of big season series against one another. They first met eight times in a year in the 1978-79 season. It

happened again in 1981-82, and then the teams went on a decade of seven Patrick Division battles per season through 1992-93, meeting nine times in

that final campaign. They also met eight times in each of the first three seasons following the 2005 realignment.

The Flyers and Islanders had never met fewer than four times in a season until last year, when they only played three times in the regular season due to

losing the final meeting to the COVID-19 shutdown. The Flyers went 0-2-1, which marked the first time since the Islanders joined the league in 1972 that

they did not pick up at least one regular season win against them.

their third straight win. The Flyers jumped out to a 2-0 lead on first-period goals by Jake Voracek and Kevin Hayes, only to see the Islanders claw back

with second-period tallies from Jordan Eberle and Scott Mayfield. Laughton’s OT tally came after a scoreless third. Carter Hart earned the win with 26

three regulation goals for his first career hat trick, starting things off with 1:18 left to go in the first period. The Islanders answered on the power play just

38 seconds into the middle frame, but Farabee restored the advantage less than two minutes after that and then completed the hatty with 4:08 left to go

in the frame to make it a 3-1 lead. But again the Islanders erased the two-goal advantage, getting goals from Josh Bailey 1:03 into the third period and

from Mathew Barzal about 5 ½ minutes later to tie the score. Hayes picked up the OT winner with Barzal in the box for high-sticking. Brian Elliott took

the win with 33 saves, while Ilya Sorokin turned away 25. Stars of the Game: 1 – Joel Farabee; 2 – James van Riemsdyk; 3 – Kevin Hayes.
