 Thurs., Oct. 6 –Flyers 2, Boston 1 at TD Garden: Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek both scored in the final minute of the firstperiod to power the Flyers to the opening-night win over the Bruins. Giroux’s goal came on the power play with 50 seconds left and wasoff an assist from Jaromir Jagr, who earned his 1,600th NHL career point on the play. Then Voracek was able to give the Flyers the 2-1 lead with a goal that came with 2.4 seconds left on the clock. Ilya Bryzgalov made 22 saves to anchor the win. Stars of the Game: 1st –Claude Giroux, 2nd –Brad Marchand, 3rd –Tyler Seguin.   HOME OPENERS This is the 44th home opener in Flyers history; they are 25-12-6 in their history on opening night. This is the 15th home opener for theFlyers here at the Wells Fargo Center, where they have a record of 8-4-1-1 on opening night.  Flyers are 25-12-6 all time in home openers. Seven home openers have gone to overtime. The Flyers have only won one home opener in OT, in 2009-10. This is the third time the Flyers have opened their home schedule against Vancouver. They won 7-3 in 1972-73 and 6-3 in 2000-01.  Here are some highlights from past opening nights at the Spectrum and Wells Fargo Center.  October 19, 1967: Flyers play their first game ever at the Spectrum, defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins, 1-0, on a goal by BillSutherland. Peter Laviolette was named the 17th head coach in Flyers history on Dec. 4, 2009. Over the final 57 games of the 2009-10 season, Laviolettecoached the Flyers to a 28-24-5 record. He then led the club on a remarkable playoff run, picking up series wins over New Jersey (4-1), Boston(4-3) and Montreal (4-1) on the way to the eighth Stanley Cup Final appearance in Flyers history.Laviolette previously spent parts of five seasons as head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes (2003-04 to 2008-09), where he compiled a 167-122-34 record in 323 games.
