TONIGHT’S GAME

The Flyers return home for a one-game stop to host the Toronto Maple Leafs in their 11th game of the season and sixth at home. The Flyers are 6-2-2

on the year after a 2-1 win in Washington last Saturday night. The Flyers are in the midst of a stretch where they play seven of nine games on the road

between Oct. 27 and Nov. 13, with this and a Nov. 2 contest vs. Arizona coming as the only home games. This is also the start of a three-game in four-

night set for the Flyers in three different cities – they’ll head back on the road Friday for a visit to Carolina, and then head to Dallas for a matchup on

Saturday before coing back home for a three-game homestand that starts next Tuesday.

NOTES OF THE NIGHT

The Flyers have earned points in eight of ten games to start the season, going 6-2-2.  It is the second year in a row the Flyers have had 14 or more

points through nine games, but only the fifth time in the last 20 years, as follows:

2021-22: 6-2-2, 12 pts

2020-21: 7-2-1, 15 pts

2007-08: 7-3-0, 14 pts

2003-04: 4-1-3-1, 12 pts

2002-03: 7-1-2, 16 pts

This is the 16th time in their history the Flyers have had 14 or more points through the first 10 games.

The Flyers have scored the first goal in seven of their 10 games this season and are 6-0-1 when doing so. The Flyers scored first in 23 of 56 games last

season (41.1 pct) and did so 39 times out of 69 games in 2019-20 (56.5 pct). The Flyers ranked 29th in the league in first-goals in 2018-19, doing so in

only 32 of 82 games (39.0 pct).

The Flyers have outscored opponents 11-6 in the first period and 12-6 in the third period this season. The Flyers have been outscored 11-9 in the

second period of games.

The Flyers are 3-1-1 at home and have scored 21 goals at Wells Fargo Center, which is fourth-best in the league in goals per game (4.20). Their home

goal differential of +9 is tied for fourth-best, and their home power play percentage of 28.6 ranked eighth-best.

On November 2, Sean Couturier became the 12th player and eighth forward in franchise history to play 700 games for the team. He is the youngest of

that group to do so at the age of 28 years, 329 days. Couturier also becomes the first member of the 2011 draft class to reach the 700-game milestone.

Page 10: Philadelphia Flyers Game Notes

Claude Giroux scored in each of the Flyers’ first six games this season (4-4-8), which is a career high for a scoring streak from the start of the season.

He is the first Flyer to score in six straight to open a campaign since Peter Forsberg and Simon Gagne did so at the start of the 2005-06 season. Giroux

has 329 power play points after an assist last Thursday, leaving him five away from breaking Bobby Clarke’s franchise record of 333. Giroux already

holds the franchise record for power play assists, having passed Clarke’s 234 in February 2020.

Giroux has started his 10th season as Flyers captain.  He has served in the role for 668 games, making him the longest-tenured captain in Flyers

history. Giroux has appeared in 668 of a possible of a possible 675 games since taking over the captaincy in January of 2013 at the start of the

shortened 2012-13 season.

Cam Atkinson scored a goal in each of the first five games of the season before being held off the board the last two games. Per NHL Stats, he

became the first Flyer in franchise history to score a goal in each of his first five games with the team. The previous record was four, held by Todd

Bergen in 1984-85

Joel Farabee had six points (3G, 3A) through the first four games of the season. Per NHL Stats, the last Flyers player to average at least 1.50 points per

game through his first four or more games of season, at age 21 or younger, was Dainius Zubrus, who had six points (2-4-6) over the first four games of

the 1997-98 season.

Keith Yandle has played in 931 consecutive games. He has not missed a regular season game since March of 2009.  Yandle is 37 games away from

passing Doug Jarvis for the longest consecutive-games streak in NHL history.

The Flyers scored 12 first period goals over the first six games. Per NHL Stats, it marks the first time since Oct. 6-20, 2011 that they’ve scored 12 first

period goals in any six-game period. It’s only the eighth separate occasion that the Flyers have done it in the last 25 years.

The Flyers underwent their biggest offseason makeover in a decade this past summer.  The opening night roster contained eight players that were not

part of the organization at the start of the 2020-21 season: Keith Yandle, Derick Brassard, Nick Seeler, Nate Thompson, Rasmus Ristolainen, Cam

Atkinson, Ryan Ellis and Martin Jones. The Flyers also have two other new players who were not available, including Patrick Brown and Zack

MacEwan, both claimed on waivers prior to the opener, and others who have started the season in Lehigh Valley. The group swaps in for 12 players

that appeared in at least one game for the Flyers last year who are no longer with the organization: Andy Andreoff, Carsen Twarynski, David Kase, Erik

Gustafsson, Jakub Voracek, Mark Friedman, Michael Raffl, Nate Prosser, Nolan Patrick, Philippe Myers, Robert Hagg, and Shayne Gostisbehere.

Three of the Flyers’ offseason acquisitions have longtime relationships with Flyers center Kevin Hayes, who starts the season on long-term injured

reserve. Hayes, Keith Yandle and Cam Atkinson all played together at Boston College; Atkinson and Brassard both came into the NHL with the

Columbus Blue Jackets, and Brassard, Yandle and Hayes all went to the Stanley Cup Final with the New York Rangers under Flyers head coach Alain

Vigneault in 2014.
