2018 Remembrance Day Service: 9/11/18: That’s the Rangeville Way!
A significant and emotional service was held last Friday to commemorate the 100th Year since the guns fell
silent! Our special guests were absolutely blown away by the attention to detail, the history on display,
the honour boards, the involvement of our students and most importantly the RESPECT that was shown by
our whole school community. One of the gentleman started the day by saying, “I only come to the schools
so that I can help the students develop and learn about the need for everyone to respect the history of the
ultimate sacrifice that was given by these men and women.” When he left he told me, “This school doesn’t
need any help, you can see the level of respect in the students’ eyes – absolutely fabulous”.
Congratulations to Mrs Burton, Mr Henry, Ms Barklem and Mr Free for all of the enormous amounts of
preparation, practice and co-ordination required to ensure our service was such a significant school and
community commemoration.
Thank you to Mrs Terresa Elliot, our Grant’s Co-ordinator who played an integral role in securing the Grant
to restore our honour boards and then liased with QLD Museums throughout the whole process. Thank
you to Nicky and the P&C for their efforts with catering and contribution to the day’s significance as well.
Thank you to Mr Brendan Walmsley – the significance of the song, his voice with our Voices Choir behind
him, and our Voices Off Choir in front of him something emotionally special!
Thank you to our facilities team who were all at school from 5am ensuring the facilities in and around the
hall were in tip top condition for such a significant event especially after the school disco the night before!

who have been selected to participate in this prestigious program for Primary students. This is a significant
achievement and wonderful reward for their dedication and commitment to their music - we are
extremely proud of them all. Rangeville is one of three schools from Darling Downs South East and one of
128 schools represented for this prestigious event.
Tuckshop Money Issues
Over the last couple of weeks we have been noticing a number of students purchasing items for their
friends and in some case a significant number of ‘friends’. Whilst it is lovely that friends are supporting
friends, please encourage your child to only spend their money on their own purchases. Next year the
tuckshop will be utilising My School Connect for its ordering system. Over the counter money transactions
will be limited to a few items only.

School Disco
Thank you to our school community for their support of the Student Council Disco last Thursday night.
There was great fun had by all who attended. The money raised from this activity will be used to support
the Year Six Graduation and also the paving project for the front of the school. Thanks again for the
continued support of our students activities.
School Booklists
Recently a tender process has been undertaken to appoint a preferred supplier for the 2019 School
Booklists. The tendering process has appointed Browns Stationary as the 2019 preferred provider. It is
intended that the 2019 booklists will be available to the school community from the 23rd of November.
Congratulations to Declan
Declan has had a pretty rough year, he had a bike accident in January, breaking his leg in two places and
both his arms. In July he lost a significant family member, so, in October he decided to ride his bike to raise
money, he rode 150kms and aimed to raise $500 for children with cancer. He raised $558, what a great
achievement.
Rangeville’s Villers-Bretonneux Connection.
In 2016, our Student Representative Council wrote to The Victoria School at Villers-Bretonneux in France
to seek assistance in photographing the name of one of our World War 1 soldiers, Private Thomas Holmes,
on the memorial wall at Villers-Bretonneux.
They did so and then asked if we could provide them with information about him to include in a film they
were making for the Sadlier-Stokes Award. They won this award earlier in the year and were presented
their prize in France by our then Prime Minister, Malcom Turnbull.
This year for Remembrance Day, we again sent them a PowerPoint with information about a Rangeville
soldier, Private Robert von Stieglitz.
We received this email from their teacher, Guillaume Fornet, last week:
Thank you very much for this beautiful portrait that I will be able to present to the students
It is important that they see the faces of soldiers and know their personal story to understand their sacrifice
and think of them.
Tomorrow morning we have an appointment at 8:30 in front of the Town Hall and we will go to the
Memorial bus, it is my students who were chosen to help the personalities to deposit the wreaths, the
ceremony must be broadcast live in Australia.
Indeed our correspondence about
Thomas Alexander Holmes is a very
good memory for us! It is very moving.
I wish you a beautiful day of
remembrance.
Friendship,
Guillaume
