participar en nuestras propias historias al transitar los días del quinto mes del año, colaborando con cada uno de los pensamientos, emociones e ideas de los creadores que comparten con nosotros ya sea su voz, su visión en una pintura, su experiencia en una obra de teatro, su universo en un libro, su amor en un poema o en una fotografía. A participar con nuestra presencia y regalarnos la experiencia de ser parte de cada uno de estos sueños que se traducen en Mayo. A veces le llaman el portal del verano pero es en sí su propia celebración. A este mes no le hace falta el verano, le hacemos falta nosotros para disfrutarlo.

En Plan Latino hemos seleccionado planes para todos. Opera ó música sefardí, arte contemporáneo y poesía, belleza e historia conviven todos en un balance que nos enorgullece poner en sus manos para tener todos el mejor Plan Latino.

This editorial is an invitation. So is also each activity that we present in this edition, an invitation to participate in our own stories while we parade through the days of

the fifth month of the year. Collaborating with each of the thoughts, emotions and ideas of the creators who share with us whether their voice, their vision into a painting, experience in a play, their universe in a book, their love in a poem or in a photograph. To participate with our presence and give us the experience of being part of each of these dreams that come to life in May. Sometimes they call it the portal of summer but is in itself its own celebration. This month does not need the summer; it needs us to enjoy it.

In Plan Latino we have selected plans for all. Opera or Sephardic music, contemporary art and poetry, all beauty and history coexist in a balance that we are proud to put in your hands to get the best Latin plan.

The adventure of his life has taken him to over 100 countries where with his lens he has captured the essence of many communities, landscapes and moments of the different realities that coexist in the world. In 1998 he received the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts and is currently a member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences of the United States. He lives in Paris and has his own photo agency, Amazonas Images, devoted exclusively to his projects.

After his outstanding work with Workers (1993), documenting the vanishing way of life of manual labourers across the World and Migrations (2000), a tribute to mass migration, Salgado almost lost faith in humanity. A new anxiety aroused in him about the fate of life, the fate our planet. It is after a reforestation Project alongside his wife, watching how life can restore itself that they decided together their new mission: to explore the beauty of the planet.

Eight years, more than thirty trips to distant corners of the planet and the aim “to seek out the land and seascapes, the animals and ancient communities that have escaped the long – and often destructive - arm of modern man” gave birth to Genesis, a record of the courageous journey of Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado.

The outcome is a collection of images that exult the spirit and take our breath away. The exhibition opened last April at the Natural History of Museum NHM in London alongside the book, edited by Taschen with a collector’s edition designed and edited by Salgado’s wife and partner Lélia Wanick Salgado.

Genesis, the result of an epic eight-year expedition to rediscover the mountains, deserts and oceans, the animals and peoples that have so far escaped the imprint of modern society – the land and life of a still pristine planet. This body of work is conceived by the artist as a potential path to humanity’s rediscovery of itself in nature.

después de su destacada labor con “Los trabajadores” (1993), que documenta el desvanecimiento de la forma de vida de los

obreros de todo el mundo y “Migraciones” (2000), un homenaje a la migración masiva, salgado se encontró a punto de perder la fe en la humanidad. Una nueva ansiedad despertó en él sobre el destino de la vida, el destino de nuestro planeta. Luego de realizar un proyecto de reforestación junto a su esposa, viendo cómo la vida puede restaurarse, decidieron juntos su nueva misión: explorar la belleza del planeta.

Ocho años, más de una treintena de viajes a rincones lejanos del planeta y el objetivo de “buscar los paisajes terrestres y marinos, los animales y las comunidades antiguas que han escapado al largo – y a menudo destructivo - brazo del hombre moderno” dieron vida a génesis, un registro del intrépido viaje del fotógrafo brasileño sebastião salgado.

El resultado es una colección de imágenes que regocijan el espíritu y roban el aliento. La exposición se inauguró el pasado abril en el Museo de historia natural de Londres junto con el lanzamiento del libro bajo el mismo titulo y editado por taschen. Además se publicó una edición para coleccionistas diseñada y editada por la esposa y socio de salgado, Lélia Wanick salgado.

Este trabajo es concebido por el artista como un camino potencial para que la humanidad se redescubra en la naturaleza. génesis, el resultado de una épica expedición de ocho años para volver a descubrir las montañas, desiertos y océanos, los animales y los pueblos que hasta ahora han escapado a la impronta de la sociedad moderna - la tierra y la vida de un planeta aún virgen.

he exclusive Latin-American Modern and Contemporary Art Fair, PINTA, returns to London for its fourth version between 4 and June 7, 2013. This year the show will feature the participation of more than 50 international galleries that will be exhibiting a variety of works by artists from Latin America, Spain and Portugal. Once again PINTA 2013 will be the combining platform for visitors, galleries, collectors and curators, the ultimate collective meeting point to appreciate and acquire extraordinary quality works from artists of all disciplines. Through

acquisition program for museums, PINTA has made it possible for important and renowned temples of contemporary art to add to their collections. Institutions including the Tate Gallery in London, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and SCALE, and the Essex Collection of Latin American Art, among others have acquired pieces by artists such as Lygia Pape and Arthur Luis Piza and more.

PINTA is a stand-out event on the 2013 calendar. This fair, unique in Europe, will show a solo exhibition of works by Argentinean painter and sculptor Cesar Paternosto.

The section ‘PINTA Project’ will focus on the work of young Latin-American artists living in Europe, co-curated by Catherine Petitgas and Kiki Mazzucchelli. Collector and patron of the Arts Petitgas is the author of “Contemporary Art Brazil” and member of the acquisitions committee of the Latin American Art at Tate Modern. Author Mazzucchelli is a Brazilian curator who has written extensively on the work of Brazilian artists, including Alexandre da Cunha, Carla Zaccagnini, Erika Verzutti, Marcius Galan, and Paulo Nazareth.

‘PINTA Design’ will show important pieces of interior designers and objects from Latin America, Spain and Portugal. This summer is just beginning, I recommend to connoisseurs of all things, not only art, to visit PINTA 2013, so they can appreciate the works of recognized artists as well as those who are just beginning to excel in the world of Modern and Contemporary Art. In short, this is a necessary event where visitors have the opportunity to enrich their knowledge and appreciation of the modern Latin American art world

The compositions have been arranged alongside the bandoneon player and composer Marcelo Nisinman.

Ute Lemper has a wide and varied career. She has been part of numerous plays, films, TV shows and musicals; perhaps she is mostly recognized internationally for musicals.

so much satisfaction. I decided to search on the internet a place where I could study Illustration and children’s literature and I found it in the UK at the Cambridge School of Art where I did an MA in Children’s book illustration.

Plan Lantino- What’s the source of your inspiration? How did you achieve that technique that you use in your work?

CE.- During my career I learnt that each person has their own voice. I always have a book with me and as the inspiration comes, I paint. To begin with I fought with myself to find my own style but I understood later, it would come with the time and the experience.

PL.– We see in your illustrations a particular characteristic of thin arms, thin legs and slanted eyes. Where is this coming from?

CE.- If I had to find similarities, I would say that it came from the Pre-Columbian indigenous culture. I have always loved their slim figures, large faces with slanted eyes. The Latin American touch in my work is always to use bright, attractive and vibrant colours.

PL.– Do you consider that you have reached a level of personal satisfaction in your work? That is to say “I am really good in what I do”?

CE.- I know it will take time to reach that level, as I am constantly making changes and improvements to my work. I know I am at that point where I am coherent and my work has its own voice.

Catalina’s work was selected for “The Best of British Illustration Catalogue 2012” and this year she has submitted her new work for the 2013 catalogue. Her first book Lion & Mouse, originated in her graduation’s exhibition, is being promoted in bookshops and schools.

Her new exhibition, “Be Curious”, will take place this month at the Colombian Consulate in London. In this exhibition, Catalina will highlight how “the artist is curious by nature. The idea is to celebrate the children’s imagination. I want to share joyfulness because there are already too many problems in the world”, she concludes.

Ilustradora y literaria infantil, esta joven colombiana a sus 27 años de edad ya cuenta con un libro en

las principales librerías del Reino Unido, El León y el Ratón, otro en producción, hay Un dinosaurio En Mi Bañera, y diversas exposiciones en ciudades como Cambridge y Londres.

Aunque siempre le ha gustado dibujar, su imaginación se desarrolló en Milán, italia, a donde viajó después de terminar sus estudios de diseño gráfico en Colombia, sólo por darle gusto a sus padres quienes siempre pensaron que Catalina necesitaba ir a la universidad para tener de qué vivir.

interior, pero cómo fue ese proceso para llegar a la ilustración y literatura infantil?

PL.- En qué se inspira? Cómo llega a la técnica que en este momento emplea?

CE.- En el transcurso de mi carrera he aprendido que cada persona tiene su propia voz. siempre tengo a la mano un libro y cuando me llega la inspiración pinto. Al comienzo luchaba mucho interiormente por encontrar un estilo pero después aprendí que sólo llegaría con el tiempo, con la experiencia.

PL. – Vemos en sus ilustraciones una característica particular de brazos y piernas delgadas al igual que cuerpos alargados. Cuál es su origen?

CE.- si tuviera que encontrar similitudes, quizá diría que de la cultura indígena precolombina. siempre me ha encantado y me ha llamado la atención cómo las figuras tienen brazos delgados, ojos rasgados y caras alargadas. En cuanto a la parte latina de mi trabajo trato además de marcarla en el color, pues siempre uso colores vivos y llamativos.

PL. – Considera que ya alcanzó un nivel de satisfacción en su trabajo? Un nivel en

el que usted misma diga “soy buena en lo que hago”?

CE.- Creo que eso toma tiempo, pues siempre se le están haciendo cambios y mejoras al trabajo, sin embargo creo que estoy en un punto en el que sé que soy coherente y mi trabajo tiene una voz.

El trabajo de Catalina fue seleccionado en lo mejor de la ilustración británica 2012 y este año está participando de nuevo en la versión 2013. su primer libro El León y el Ratón (Lion & Mouse) nació de la exposición de graduación, con el que fue llamada por una casa editorial para hacer una historia basada en sus ilustraciones. Este trabajo ya está en el mercado y será parte de la vida de Catalina durante este año ya que incluye visitas a las librerías y colegios, lecturas, etc.

no obstante los compromisos con su nuevo libro, la artista seguirá atendiendo exhibiciones entre las que se cuenta la de este mes en el Consulado de Colombia en Londres titulada sé Curioso (Be Curious). En ella Catalina resalta que el “artista tiene que ser curioso por naturaleza. La idea es celebrar la imaginación del niño. Quiero compartir una parte de alegría, ya que hay suficientes problemas en el mundo”. y es así como recopilará en su muestra, trabajos de toda su carrera en la que ha sido bastante curiosa.

Rick, quien hace poco estrenó su primer álbum inédito, Así Es El Amor. El artista hará su presentación junto a las

candidatas por primera vez en la capital británica. Así mismo, durante la competencia se presentará la cubana Kari Lebrot con su show de boleros, el conjunto de música tradicional latinoamericana de Camilo Menjura, Cumbé, y otro selecto grupo de bailarines y cantantes quienes animarán cada una de las salidas de las candidatas. Es así como todo está listo para un show de infarto del cual se espera obtener el nombre de la nueva Soberana de la Belleza Latina en Gran Bretaña

El título de esta nota reflexiona sobre la banda sonora de la estación que nos acompaña, modificando

un verso de Federico garcía Lorca para presentar el concierto en Londres del tenor mexicano Rolando Villazón. Una rima sin razón es como un canto destemplado, pero esta vez el uso del titular está justificado más allá de las palabras, no solo porque este cantor clásico se dice también aficionado a la poesía, sino porque, mire usted por dónde, su rostro recuerda al del poeta Federico garcía Lorca de la misma manera que verde y Verdi conjuntan bien, sobre todo cuando Rolando Villazón viene a presentar su espectáculo basado en el célebre compositor romántico italiano giuseppe Verdi en un momento en el que Londres tiene sus esperanzas puestas en el color primaveral por excelencia.

Villazón es uno de los tenores más cotizados del mundo, tiene conciertos cerrados hasta 2015 y en su actual gira por Europa solo hace una escala en Londres a mediados de mayo, así que ya sabe, si le apetece escuchar algo más que a los mirlos del parque. Aunque los mejores tenores del mundo pasan por Londres cada año, éstos, como las bandadas de mirlos, nunca vienen para quedarse. Viva Verdi que te quiero verde en southbank Centre, a la orilla del támesis, el día 15. y que le quiten a usted lo cantado.

The title of this story reflects on the soundtrack of the current season, modifying a verse from Federico Garcia Lorca to introduce the concert of Mexican tenor Rolando Villazon

in London. A rhyme without reason is like a discordant song, but this time the use of the headline is justified beyond words, not only because this classical singer is fond of poetry, but because you can see how much he bears a resemblance to the poet Federico García Lorca, in the same way that green and Verdi match well, especially in Spanish and specially when Rolando Villazon comes to present his show based on the famous Italian romantic composer Giuseppe Verdi in a time when London has its hopes on the spring colour.

Villazon is one of the most sought after tenors in the world, with booked concerts until 2015 and in his current European tour he only makes a stopover in London in mid-May. So you know if you want to hear something more than the blackbirds at the park. Although the best tenors in the world pass through London every year, these, as flocks of blackbirds, never come to stay. Long live Verdi at the greener pastures of the Southbank Centre, on the banks of the Thames, on the 15th. Anyway we will always have Paris, by the way where Rolando lives.

In this occasion, Mortensen plays the role of two identical twins, Agustin and Pedro.

After living for years in Buenos Aires, Agustin develops a frustrated existence. He finds a solution in his brother Pedro’s dead. Agustin takes Pedro’s identity and begins a new life returning to the mysterious Parana Delta region, which was the childhood of both brothers.

It does not take long before he finds that he is involved in the dangerous world of crime that his brother had been part of.

This film of crime and suspense will be released in UK cinemas on 24 May.

The Argentinean writer, director and actress will premier her show for the first time in the UK within the Brighton Festival this spring.

My life after is a piece of work, which centres around and features actors who were growing up in the 1970s and 1980s in Argentina. In My life after the performers reconstruct the life of their parents trough their own family photo album, letters, tapes. They do re-enactments of scenes from the past, based on what someone told them or blurry memories, a very personal portrait of six young people from Argentina but also a portrait about how is life under a dictatorship.

My Life After treads the borders of reality and fiction, the intersection of private tales and national history, as it asks questions of truth, heritage and identity dark issues surface along with the joy and humour of lives recovered.

The piece will be performed in Spanish with English subtitles.

Con la idea de rescatar la tradición de la cultura judeo-española nace en el año 2000 “Los Desterrados”, agrupación que revive la música de esta comunidad judía inyectando a sus piezas de folklore, una buena dosis de ritmos contemporáneos y un muy auténtico sabor.

Las piezas son cantadas principalmente en ladino, la lengua hablada por los judíos españoles que el día de hoy es protegida por la UnEsCO. su música es tan relevante ahora como lo fue hace quinientos años. Cada integrante aporta su propia inspiración a la mezcla ya sea con jazz, flamenco, folk, heavy metal o clásico además de mucha actitud.

dos Amantes es el titulo de su ultima producción discográfica la misma que estarán presentando en una gran fiesta donde tendrán invitados en el escenario para llenar el espacio de la riqueza de sus melodías, arreglos poco convencionales y ritmos a los cuales solo se responde bailando.

The songs are mostly sung in Ladino, the language spoken by Spanish Jews, a language that is protected by UNESCO. Their music is as relevant now as it was five hundred years ago. Each member brings his own inspiration to the mix either with jazz, flamenco, folk, heavy metal or classical and plenty of attitude.

Two Lovers is the title of their latest album which will be launched in a big party where guests will join the stage to fill the space with the richness of their melodies, unconventional arrangements and rhythms to which one can only respond by dancing.

Portraying what Latin Americans face when moving to UK, they use music to bend stereotypes, genres and combine stories. The songs are threaded with multilingual lyrics that range from social and political commentary with themes of migration, land grabs and displacement.

Los Chinches are ready to unleash their debut album Fongo onto the world. Its title, Los Chinches explain, is taken from the name of “a mysterious deity, a visionary and a clown with a taste for jungle liquor and Amazonian beauties”. It is, they continue, “through Fongo that we channel the spirit of Chicha who acts as a spiritual councillor and a guide for Los Chinches. We ask Fongo to bless us all with good vibrations. There is a Fongo in all of us and our quest is to bring out his spirit in everyone who hears our sound.

They offer a unique blend of Chicha with hot Peruvian rhythms going head to head with the amped-up melodies of the London-born keyboard and guitar players.

InterContinental London Park Lane is hosting a pop-up of Harry Sasson’s pioneering restaurant in Bogotá, Club Colombia. Known as one of South America’s most celebrated chefs, Harry and his team will take over Cookbook Cafe at InterContinental London Park to recreate his modern and refined approach to Colombian cuisine

Cookbook Cafe’s Market Table will be brimming with Colombian influences and will include a selection of signature dishes. In the evening there will be rotating menu options that will feature rustic styled cuisine and then distinctly modern interpretations. There is a special weekend brunch offer on the 25th May.

Lunches are available from 12pm to 3pm and will be changed daily; dinner reservations are available from 6pm-10pm.

Club Colombia, which is being run in partnership with the Embassy and the Consulate General of Colombia in London, is part of InterContinental London Park Lane’s series of Gourmet Food Festivals that create authentic and enriching experiences for visiting guests and locals.
