Organelles
Organelles = little organs that perform
specific jobs in the cell
Organelles are found in eukaryotic cells but
not prokaryotic cells
Plant and Animal cells are both examples of
eukaryotic cells with organelles
Plant and Animal cells contain many of the
same organelles, but there are several
differences
![Page 3: Plant and Animal cells and Organelles](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021006/62038a40da24ad121e4a9a10/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Plant vs. Animal Cells
There are three main differences between plant and
animal cells:
1. Plant cells have a cell
wall, Animal Cells do
not
![Page 4: Plant and Animal cells and Organelles](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021006/62038a40da24ad121e4a9a10/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Plant vs. Animal Cells
2. Plant cells have
chloroplasts and
Animal Cells do not
![Page 5: Plant and Animal cells and Organelles](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021006/62038a40da24ad121e4a9a10/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Plant vs. Animal Cells
3. Plant cells have larger
vacuoles (storage
spaces)
![Page 6: Plant and Animal cells and Organelles](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021006/62038a40da24ad121e4a9a10/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Plant vs. Animal Cells
Plant Cells
1.Chloroplasts
2.Cell wall
3.Large vacuole
Animal Cells
1.No Chloroplasts
2.No Cell wall
3.Small Vacuole
![Page 7: Plant and Animal cells and Organelles](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021006/62038a40da24ad121e4a9a10/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)

Organelles
1. Nucleus
2. Ribosomes
3. Mitochondria
4. Chloroplast
5. Vacuole
6. Endoplasmic reticulum
7. Golgi Apparatus
8. Plasma Membrane
9. Cell Wall

Nucleus
Looks like: Central
area where DNA is
found
Job: controls the cell
In a factory: Boss
![Page 10: Plant and Animal cells and Organelles](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021006/62038a40da24ad121e4a9a10/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Ribosomes
Looks like: Small particles of RNA in the
cytoplasm and on the ER
Job: make proteins (protein synthesis)
In a factory: workers
![Page 11: Plant and Animal cells and Organelles](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021006/62038a40da24ad121e4a9a10/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Mitochondria
Looks like: a bean
Job: powerhouse of
the cell-it produces
the energy in the
form of ATP
In a factory:
generator (energy
source)
![Page 12: Plant and Animal cells and Organelles](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021006/62038a40da24ad121e4a9a10/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Mitochondria

Chloroplast
Looks like: green
stacks of membranes
the contain chlorophyll
Job: perform
photosynthesis
(convert sunlight into
energy)
In the factory:
greenhouse
![Page 14: Plant and Animal cells and Organelles](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021006/62038a40da24ad121e4a9a10/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Vacuole
Looks like: sac-like
organ. HUGE in
plant cells
Job: stores water,
food, and waste
In a factory: storage
room
![Page 15: Plant and Animal cells and Organelles](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021006/62038a40da24ad121e4a9a10/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Looks like: internal
membrane system next
to the nucleus (rough
ER has ribosomes,
smooth ER does not)
Job: transports
materials
In a factory: conveyor
belt
![Page 16: Plant and Animal cells and Organelles](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021006/62038a40da24ad121e4a9a10/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Golgi Complex (Apparatus)
Looks like: stack of
membranes
Job: Packs, sorts, and
ships
In a factory: packaging
center
![Page 17: Plant and Animal cells and Organelles](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021006/62038a40da24ad121e4a9a10/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)

bilayer) surrounding the
cell but inside of the cell wall
Job: “the regulator”-
controls what comes in

protects, and supports the
cell
In a factory: security
guards
