PLANTLEADERSHIP
SEPTEMBER 27-28, 2018, RAMADA POWAI, MUMBAI
MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY IN INDIAWith its GDP measuring $2.3 trillion, India is the world’s 9th-largest economy and the third largest by purchasing power parity at $8 trillion. Yet manufacturing accounts for only 16% of the country’s GDP. India represents only 2% of the world’s manufacturing output, a tenth of what our neighbour China contributes. Clearly, India is punching below its weight in manufacturing.
Growth in manufacturing is crucial for India’s economic development. It can create one million jobs per month over the next decade, fuelling large-scale employment for Indian youth, thereby enabling a significant section of the population to move out of poverty. Realising the importance of manufacturing and to further encourage & accelerate growth of this sector, many initiatives like ‘MAKE IN INDIA’ are being taken up by the current government to foster its growth.
AUTOMOTIVE By 2020, with an average annual production of 17.5 million vehicles, India will
become the fourth largest automotive market by volume
TEXTILES Indian economy, expecting it to grow by 7- 8% over the next
12 months.
STEEL
India was the world’s third-largest steel producer in 2017.
@ the steel sector has been a major contributor to India’s
manufacturing output.
PHARMACEUTICALS Estimated to grow at 20 per cent CAGR
over the next five years
OIL & GASThe oil and gas sector is among the six core industries in India and plays a major role in influencing decision making for all the other important
sections of the economy. India is the 3rd largest energy and oil consumer in the world after China
and the US.
CHEMICALSWe are the third largest
producer in Asia and 12th in world, in terms of volume. Expected to reach a size of
US$ 350 billion by 2021.
