A CALL TO HOLINESS BY
POPE FRANCIS.
144. Let us not forget that Jesus asked his disciples
to pay attention to details.
The little detail that wine was running out at a party.
The little detail that one sheep was missing.
The little detail of noticing the widow who offered
her two small coins.
The little detail of having spare oil for the lamps,
should the bridegroom delay.
The little detail of asking the disciples how many
loaves of bread they had.
The little detail of having a fire burning and a fish
cooking as he waited for the disciples at daybreak.
145. A community that cherishes the little details of
love,[107] whose members care for one another and
create an open and evangelizing environment, is a
place where the risen Lord is present, sanctifying it
in accordance with the Father’s plan. There are times
when, by a gift of the Lord’s love, we are granted,
amid these little details, consoling experiences of
God. “One winter night I was carrying out my little
duty as usual… Suddenly, I heard off in the distance
the harmonious sound of a musical instrument. I then
pictured a well-lighted drawing room, brilliantly
gilded, filled with elegantly dressed young ladies
conversing together and conferring upon each other
all sorts of compliments and other worldly remarks.
Then my glance fell upon the poor invalid whom I
was supporting. Instead of the beautiful strains of
music I heard only her occasional complaints… I
cannot express in words what happened in my soul;
what I know is that the Lord illumined it with rays of
truth which so surpassed the dark brilliance of
earthly feasts that I could not believe my
happiness”.[108]
UN LLAMADO A LA SANTIDAD
DEL PAPA FRANCISCO.
felicidad»[108].
Dear Parishioners,
As we begin our Lenten journey, my wish is that everyone will have a fruitful and spiritual journey with
Jesus, and meditate on his passion, suffering, death and resurrection.
We are living in a world that promotes the attitude of "Look at ME". We begin our Lenten journey with
ashes on our forehead, and a question: “Will you turn away from sin and believe in the gospel of mercy?”
Let the ashes remind us of our own sinfulness and our own mortality. Let the question echo in our hearts and challenge us
to live lives that reflect the teaching of Jesus. During these 40 days of Lent I invite you to not only fast, pray and in your
charity give alms. I ask you to think of Lent a little differently: in addition to your inward reflection, open your eyes to
what is going on around you and reflect on how you can be an instrument of God’s grace and mercy in your family,
parish, and community.
Has a family member taken the wrong path? Pray for them, and if possible, talk with them and listen to them. Is a co-
worker still discerning about his/her faith? Invite them to one of the many events being offered this Lent and offer to
accompany them. Do your children not want to attend Mass or religious education classes, or do they say their faith is
boring? (Remember they are the future of the church.) Get them excited about their faith. Be with them and interact with
them. After all, Lent is about doing something good for your soul, your faith and especially for building the kingdom of
heaven.
May these 40 days of Lent help you become more positive in your faith life, more positive in your relationships with each
other, and more active in your church community. May each of you be renewed by the grace of this holy season.
Happy Lent
Rev. Thi Phạm, SCJ
Pastor/Moderator
Estimados feligreses,
Feliz Cuaresma.
Padre Thi Phạm, SCJ.

Dear Christ the King Parishioners:
First, thank you for your generous contributions during 2019. We were able to upgrade the HVAC system, so
that now it works better. We also replaced the flooring in the church offices and education building.
Second, I want to update you on the current financial situation of our parish.
LED Project
Beginning Balance: $44,111.00
Paid to Date: $29,936.00 Thank you for what you have done so far.
Current Due: $14,175.00
The Loan on the Church Building
Beginning Balance: $921,410.00
Paid to Date: $261,427.00
Current Due: $659,983.00 (we owe the 2nd quarter Payment of $20,000)
Estimated Bills through June 2020
Cathedraticum & Insurance: $ 74,672.56
Loan Payments: $ 60,000.00 (includes the 2nd quarter Payment)
Cash on Hand as of January 15, 2020
Checking: $32,000.00
Savings: $34,389.00
In order to generate additional funds for building/maintenance, we will be conducting a second collection the
fourth Sunday of the month beginning in February.
We rely on your financial support to enable our parish to continue to grow and meet the needs of our
parishioners and fulfill our financial obligations.
Information about our Parish:
Number of Registered Households: 1,567
Summary of your contributions for 2019:
Total amount received from weekend collections in 2019: $ 421,062.84
Total number of households contributing more than $250.00 during 2019: 187
Total number of households contributing less than $250.00 during 2019: 166
If each of the 1,567 registered households would contribute or increase their contributions by at least $5.00 each
week (the cost of a “Mix & Match two deal” at McDonalds and less than a Chick-fil-a meal), a minimum of
$407,420.00 would be generated in a year by the increase in your financial giving. That would help in meeting
our financial obligations and funding our programs. Of course, if you could afford to increase your weekly
giving by more than $5.00 (e.g. $10, $15, $20, or more), that would be wonderful. So, I ask you to prayerfully
consider increasing your weekly contribution to Christ the King.
It takes all of us working together and financially supporting our parish to be able to continue to build a strong
faith community that we can pass on to future generations.
In Christ,
Rev. Thi Pham, SCJ.
Rev. Thi Pham, SCJ.
