Technical Characteristics

- Flow adjustment is accomplished by operating the shutoff handle from the closed to the fully open position passing through the four intermediate settings corresponding to 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% of maximum flow rate.- A selection ring allows the user to operate the nozzle at a pressure of 6 bar (87 psi), or at 3 bar (44 psi) while maintaining the same flow rate in the maximum position. This ring also has a third position marked PURGE or FLUSH which permits the removal of particles which could interfere with the proper hydraulic operation of the nozzle.- Selectable stream pattern: a continuous rotation of the head ring allows the user to progress from a straight stream to a narrow spray of 32° "Flash Over", to a full fog diffusion cone of 130° forming a wall of water. Tactile and visual indicators permit the user to know the type of stream even in total darkness and while wearing firefighting gloves.- Swivel inlet connection.- Functions under nominal pressure PN 16.- Aluminium alloy adjustable flow rate shutoff handle.

Construction- Aluminium alloy construction, AGS T5, extremely light.- Resistant to mechanical shock and chemical attack with 50µ Teflon imgregnated anodisation.- The head is protected with a polyurethane bumper guard. This elastomer does not melt under heat, is an excellent insulator which allows the user to work under high heat conditions without burning and does not stick to the fingers in low temperatures.- Ergonomic, anti-slip polyurethane pistol grip.- Stainless steel pins and screws.

This curve represents the pressure variation as a function of the flow rate, inside the "TORNADOMATIC 750" and "TORNADOMATIC 1000".Note that the internal regulation device comes into action when the flow rate reaches a value of 300 l/min (80 GPM). After this point, the flow rate increase is carried out under an approximately constant pressure, from 7 to 8 bar (100 à 116 psi), up to a value of 1000 l/min (260 GPM).

The dotted lines show what should be the pressure to get the same flow rate in the absence of a control device.

Pour faciliter les manoeuvre, l ’optimal nozzle est equipé d ’un coude tournant (360°) et orientable composé de 2 rotules offrants un débattement d ’avant en arrière de +20° à -20° (soit un total de 80°).

Enfin un système de verrouillage est intégré à la gachette pour laisser le robinet en position « ouvert ». Le deverrouillage s ’effectue simplement par une pression de la main sur cette gachette, relachant le loquet de verrouillage.

WATERWALL PROTECTIONWITH "COMBIPOK"

DescriptionThe combination straight jet and full spray allows to fight the fire and protect the nozzle operator simultaneously.The COMBIPOK was designed to protect value and courage.

To fight the ignition source with a straight jet allows rapid extinction. However, the heat given off by the fire causes the nozzle operator to stay away, limiting the effect of the water jet.The water screen incorporated into the nozzle, ensures at the same time the protection of nozzle operator against radiant heat and induces a refreshing environment. Simultaneously, the straight jet allows optimum fight of the fire.The combination straight jet and waterwall has been carried out in production in Germany 90 years ago for the first time. The COMBIPOK is the modern solution to an old problem.

Technical characteristicsThe start up of the waterwall is carried out by pulling the operating ring (for Combipok I) or by turning the operating ring (for Combipok II).- The screen is turned off by performing the reverse rotation.- Waterway diameter: Ø35 (1" 3/8).- Water flow rate of the waterwall: 350 l/min at 6 bar (100 GPM @ 100 PSI).- Made of aluminum alloy (cut in solid bar).- Is mounted to a stop valve with a waterway diameter of Ø35, a pistol grip, a shutoff handle "Open - Closed", a sphere in Rilsan made of 30% glass, please precise the inlet coupling type.- Different nozzles are available as outlets:

The straight jet can be replaced by an automatic tip transforming the fire nozzle into a nozzle combining multiple jets and a protection by means of a spray jet.

The swivel elbow allows a component of the reaction force of the nozzle to rely on the inclined hose (rigid from the pressure) and to use the weight of the operator to balance another component. This helps decreasing by about 15 % the effort to balance the reaction force of the operator in action, thus reducing the fatigue of the operator and improving its safety.The swivel elbow provides a better handling of the nozzle to overcome the stiffness of the pipe under pressure.

APPLICATION

The fermentation process existing in a silo can generate extreme heat that may cause combustion and/or a fire. The suspended dust in the air inside the silo can also create a major explosion. The GERICO nozzle has been designed to allow the injection of water from a piercing head. The GERICO nozzle was initially designed for a specific application but we found that it can be utilised for trash fires found in incinators, tire fires, peat moss and hard to reach places.

The anti-recoil elbow DIN 14-368 is supplied in all fire fighting vehicles in Germany, Austria, and in all countries referring to the German DIN standard.The anti-recoil elbow is used when the capacity of the fire nozzle exceeds 400 l/min at 6 bar. Its basic function is to reduce the effort supported by the operator. The effort isreduced by about 15%. Indeed, a fire nozzle of 500 l/min at 6 bar exerts a reaction force of 30 kg. Reducing this reaction to 25.5 kg is felt immediately; it reduces fatigue and improves the safety of the nozzle operator.The anti-recoil elbow DIN standard has a handle to facilitate gripping. The handle may also be positioned on the shoulder of the operator.A hook on the bottom of the device allows for the positioning on a ladder rung or on a railing.The anti-recoil elbow DIN 14-368 is equipped with Storz couplings B/75 that can be easily replaced by British Instantaneous couplings 2,5", by American NST couplings2,5" or by French couplings DSP DN65.When the couplings are of the symmetric type, the inlet and outlet can be mounted on the device and elbow reversed positioned on the ground, thus eliminating the recoil force forthe operator (see picture next page).

Some misinformed sales agents claim that their nozzles have an anti-recoil function and thus have a lower reaction force.This is not true.The reaction force of a nozzle is given by the formula F=rQV (the laws of physics are the same for all) with:

r=density of waterQ=volume flow rate per unit timeV=velocity of the water at the tip

- The density of water is the same for everyone.

- Reducing the speed of the water reduces the span distance and nobody is interested in a nozzle which has no range.

- Reducing the flow remains the only option to decrease the reaction force.

In conclusion, those who reported smaller reaction force of their fire nozzle cheat on flow! Q.E.D.

The nozzle operator who wants to reduce the recoil force has in general five solutions:

-1- Use a recoil elbow that allows a component of the force to press on the inclined hose (stiffened bypressure) and use the weight of the operator to balance another component, reducing by about 15% the effort required to balance the reaction force of the nozzle in action.

-2- Sit on the hose, pulling the nozzle towards oneself, and positionned between the legs (with various variants of this position).

THE FIREBUSTER

The new portable pump, FIREBUSTER is equipped with a harness that is more comfortable than existing models, allowing to walk long distances in the forest with less fatigue.

The hand pump draws water into the bucket when the operator projects the handle forward, the amount of water fills the piston and the back movement of the handle projects this water in the nozzle tip. One can achieve a straight stream or a wide angle spray with adjustable spray angle by rotation of the head ring.

The pump is made of brass, very robust material with excellent resistance to aggressive waters, whether acid or basic. This material is particularly suited to water containing retardants or wetting agents. The tank is constructed of high density polyethylene tinted yellow in the mass, material that resists a wide range of chemicals. This plastic is very light (density less than 1) and has a remarkable resistance to any impact. The latter property makes it the choice material to equip the fuel tanks of racing motorcycles.

The harness is made of polyester Condura ™ Dupont de Nemours, also preferred by the military to harness their equipment.
