At mid-day on 29th December 1943, Netajiaccompanied by Sarvashri Anand Mohan Sahay,Captain Rawat - ADC and Col. D.S. Raju, personalphysician of Netaji, landed at the Port Blairaerodrome in the Andamans. He was received bythe Japanese Admiral at Port Blair. Theenthusiastic Indians and Burmese also accordeda warm reception to him. Netaji went around thehistoric Cellular Jail where the walls told him, insilence, the woes of the political prisoners whowere tortured there. He also saw the courage andenduring spirit that braved the vehemence of theBritish authorities. Netaji paid glowing tributesto the noble sacrifices of the Indian heroes.On the following day, 30th December 1943, theNational Flag was hoisted by Netaji on the liberatedIndian soil, an act first of its kind in the history ofthe oppressive British rule in India. All theceremonies of retrieving the lost territory fromthe enemy were held with joy, pride and jubilation.The National Anthem i.e. the anthem of the AzadHind Fauj (The Indian National Army) was sungin chorus by all present, which added to the gravityof the occasion.

A building has already beenidentified within Phoenix BayPower House Complex forestablishment of EMC.

On the persistent request of Administration, theMinistry of Power has sanctioned the amount of Rs.23.5 Crores for establishment of EMC at South Andamanvide Order dated 16.12.2019. Accordingly, the work hasbeen awarded to the bidder by PGCIL on 18.12.2019 andthe commissioning schedule is 15 months from the dateof placement of award.

This will help the ElectricityDepartment to effectivelymanage power systemoperations with economy,reliability and security for theconsumers of Port Blair & SouthAndaman area.

After commissioning, EMC shall be handedover to the Electricity Department, A&NAdministration with Annual Maintenance Contract(AMC) for five years after one year of warranty period,a communication from the Superintending Engineer(Electricity) said.
