Introduction to:Doreen Fox Kelsey
District Governor 2017-2018Rotary District 5520
Doreen Fox Kelsey is a member of the Rotary Club of Albuquerque Del Sol and has been a Rotarian since 1996. She served as a Rotary Club president in 1999-2000 and 2001-2002 for the Rotary Club of Spokane Hillyard, and most recently as president of the Rotary Club of Albuquerque Del Sol in 2015-2016. Doreen’s Rotary passion is the Rotary Foundation – focusing on fund development and humanitarian service projects. She served as District Rotary Foundation Committee Chair in Rotary District 5080 and was a frequent workshop leader for Pacific Northwest PETS serving multiple districts. Doreen relocated to Albuquerque and District 5520 in 2012, where she served as an Assistant Governor prior to her nomination as District Governor 2017-2018. In 2004, Doreen traveled as part of an International Service project team to Bangladesh, where she coordinated a project providing cataract surgery at a hospital founded by Rotarians from the U.S. and Bangladesh. After returning home, she helped to start an endowment fund to provide for the ongoing operation of the hospital. Doreen traveled to Bangladesh four more times over an eight-year period primarily to assist the hospital but also to develop new service projects. The most recent projects involved maternal and infant mortality reduction in rural southern Bangladesh and supporting primary and secondary education and nutritional support to children attending the Rangpur Rotary School in northern Bangladesh. In her professional life, Doreen works as vice president and branch manager for Los Alamos National Bank in Albuquerque. Previously, she was a branch manager for US Bank, where she received US Bank’s most distinguished individual service award, the Circle of Service Excellence, in 2014. Doreen and her husband Tony are Major Donors and Benefactors. They have been married for more than 20 years, and they have six adult children. Doreen is a recipient of the Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service Award.

MEET PRESIDENT DON! Our 2017-2018 President for the Rotary Club of Portales is Don Nickles! Don and his wife Julie have lived in Portales for about 9 years, and came here from Nampa, Idaho. Don grew up in Orange County, California and is a Dodger fan at heart! (The farm where he grew up though, is about an orange’s throw from where the LA Angels play now!) They have 2 adult children: Don & Jayne live in Monrovia and have 2 children, and Don & Suzanne Thomas live here and have 3 children. Don was a Nazarene Pastor for much of his life and has a real heart for
Ministry. Later on, he worked for Christian Schools and Bus Companies as driver and instructor. He has taken teams to games all over the Golden State! Don & Julie love to travel and see places, enjoy spending time with their grandkids and gardening around the house! He’s also restored a 1964 Chevy pickup that was his dads…it’s a beautiful blue Bowtie! Thank you Don for serving as our President for this year! PROGRAM TODAY: President Don will layout some ideas for this year and say thank you to Glen O’Rear for his service as President next year! PROGRAM LAST WEEK: We didn’t meet, but thank you to those that came and painted at Rotary Park on Saturday! Your service is truly appreciated! PROGRAM NEXT WEEK: We are looking forward to some exciting programs this season with Deborah Corbin as our Program Chair for this year! 50THANNIVERSARYCELEBRATION!Wewouldliketoinvitethemembersofourclubtoacelebrationhonoring50yearsofmarriageofourNewPresident–Don&JulieNickles!ItwillbeheldTHISSUNDAY,from2-5pm(comeandgo)attheChristianCampusHouse(223SouthAvenueK)-acrossfromCurry&QuayHall.Therewillberefreshments,videosbeingplayedandachancetoenjoycompany!Wehopeyouwillstopby!
