A pen, sketchbook and a camera from me to me, those were essen al tools, which followed me around during travelling to different places, I was always interested in and wonder to know why different
building styles happen in different places. I used camera to shoot the building, using pen and sketchbook to record the detail of the styles by insigh ul observa on. Un l when I read a book, which was about
most ancient buildings have gradient roof in south of China because it always rain heavily there, but buildings in northern is drought rela vely, so most of buildings were constructed with flat roof, then I was
pleasapleasantly surprised to learn the style of buildings can be influenced by climate, which a ract me more to interest in and study architecture.
Fortunately, my Founda on course qualifica on gave me an opportunity to study architecture, which taught me architecture is not only design styles of buildings, but it also is the design of people’s life and
future. Winston Churchill once said that "we shape our buildings, therea er they shape us", which briefly and brilliantly give me a sense what is architecture, not just in designing the physical world, but also in
affec ng the people and communi es that are shaped by those designs. We are using crea on skills to shape buildings, which can be enlightened and influenced by climate, geography, culture, economy, polity,
hihistory and technology; therea er they passively strive to improve quality of people’s lives and strengthen communi es. All of these reveal the important role that architects have, which allure me gradually
desire to be an architect, because architects have the chance to create an enduring mark on the world.
During process of working on the different projects, I gradually gained a powerful skill of enlightenment and crea on by previous experience, an intriguing ability evolving from our originali es and perspec ves.
When formula ng my own unique crea ons, I learned I should proof how my ideas can be achieved in real world, therefore I may need to make some models, diagrams to analyse and create a parallel between
our imagina on and the world in which we live. Each project I have done allowed my passion to evolve further, hence a more advanced level is determined by my decision. Architecture gave me a faith that I
cancan achieve new heights, which ac ng as a founda on for success and fulfilment for my future, and it works as a potent, influen al force in my life, which has given me a sense of direc on and meaning. It is my
passion for Architecture, which acts as a catalyst for inspira on to give me with a sense of ambi on and desire.
By the par cipa ng pavilion group project last year, I experienced group working and prac ce an actual project for our clients. We were authorized by Na onal Trust to build a pavilion in Winter Park, we created
our idea for client’s requests, considering the construc on technology with exis ng site, we worked as group and use everybody’s analyse and thought to correct and improve again and again to make sure it
would definitely work in real space. Finally we got sa sfac on from our clients. This experience taught me some knowledge I never cannot learn from class, which is how buildings get built in the social sense,
bebecause an approval process must be gone through by public and private with design review boards, planning and building departments, neighborhood associa ons, and other community groups. All of these
experiences gave me more confidence to work on architecture in the future.
My main hobby is travelling, because I can have fun, and whilst I can know more knowledge about local condi ons, culture and architecture in different places. Personally I prefer to view a structure in person,
because it is substan ally more potent than a mere image, so I have been travelling a lot throughout Europe these years. I travelled with my school to Germany this year, which is a birthplace of architecture.
Buildings such as Mercedes-‐Benz Museum give me a new sense about visi ng route, the double helix structure has brought a special "two" set tour route from top to bo om to contribute the circula on; the
designdesign of Jewish Museum also let me experience how the space to express the emo on, a labyrinth compression narrow closed space design, as well as cu ng-‐shaped, dark ligh ng are deliberately arranged
to make visitors feel a sense of history of the Jews in Germany is full of difficul es and challenges through space. All of these experiences during travelling has broadened my horizons and opened up my mind.
On many occasions, I u lise ICT facili es such as CAD, Sketchup or Rhino, in order to release and present the flow of ideas in my mind. This contrast of leisure and learning enables me to develop a clear sense
of balance within my life.
In my opinion, my passion for architecture has determined my career in the future, and I desire to enhance my knowledge of architecture, in order to strive to be an real architect for crea ng posi ve changes
in our community. Therefore I believe Master course of Architecture is my second part of journey, it can give me more professional skills by challenge my crea ve poten al, and I am expec ng to par cipa ng
in a rewarding, self fulfilling course.
