Scotland’s first modern hospice, St Columba’s Hospice first opened its doors in 1977. Over the years it has grown and evolved into an exemplary provider of specialist palliative care for thousands of people with

JOB DESCRIPTION

1. JOB IDENTIFICATION

Job Title: Hospitality Team Assistant

2. JOB PURPOSE

As part of the Hospitality team, your role is to provide patients within the inpatient unit with a high standard of care by ensuring that their individual catering requests are met. You will be part of a team committed to ensuring that the patients’ food and drink is nutritious, appetising and appropriate for each patients' medical and cultural needs. This will be achieved through discussing meal choices and requirements with the patients. You will need to work in harmony with other healthcare professionals and departments within the Hospice to ensure an optimum catering service is provided.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

• Discuss and help patients make appropriate meal and snack choices, ensuring they are aware of alternatives and special requests

• Pass orders to the kitchen and liaise with other catering staff to ensure meals are provided as requested or available alternatives offered

• Collect all dishes and orders from the ward kitchen and serve to patients’ in their rooms. (Assistance with feeding will be carried out by nursing staff)

• Serve the different courses when required and clear dishes from patients’ rooms when suitable

• Have daily discussions with the Hospitality Team lead or Head Chef to gain a full knowledge of choices for the day

• Have daily discussions with nursing staff to understand patient’s nutritional needs and any other relevant information

• Ensure patients water jugs are changed regularly

• Assist with co-ordination of volunteer Hospitality Assistants

• Ensure all ward kitchens and hospitality areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, following the hospice’s cleaning schedules, hygiene regulations and procedures, recording all results

• Assist with maintaining and re-stocking ward kitchen’s and Hospitality areas

• Assist with washing up and ward kitchen cleaning as required

• Attend to any reasonable request made by management Personal Education and Development:

• To be aware of up to date information relevant to own role within the hospice, including knowledge of basic dietary needs

3. DIMENSIONS

A Hospitality Team Assistant you will be part of the Hospitality team service with the help of Hospitality volunteers. The Hospitality team’s role is to supply patients with a high quality and efficient food and drinks service supplying all meals and snacks as required. General duties will involve dealing with patient requests, serving & delivering food and refreshments and keeping the ward kitchen and hospitality areas clean and tidy.

4. ORGANISATIONAL POSITION

5. ROLE OF DEPARTMENT

The Hospitality Team provides a total meal service to approximately 22 patients on an individual basis on the wards plus approx. 20 staff/visitors using the Dining Room. The meal service on the ward will cover breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks plus all refreshments at those times. The meal service in the Dining room will cover breakfast and lunch meal service. A weekly personal choice menu is offered to both patients and dining room customers covering a wide ranging selection of choices from starters, snack, main meals and sweets.

6. KEY RESULT AREAS

1. Present a personal catering service to patients and staff within the Hospice. 2. Taking food and drinks orders from patients and delivering these when required. 3. Liaise closely with the nursing team regarding dietary requirements 4. Prepare present and deliver sandwiches, filled rolls, fruit salad and beverages within the remit

of the Catering department. Serving food and drinks to patients. 5. Clean crockery, cutlery, utensils, containers and small scale equipment manually and through

machine washers. 6. Clean floors, work surfaces, furnishings and related equipment manually and by use of

machine. 7. Deliver ward stores and supplies to wards and departments 8. Comply with food hygiene regulations with regard to food service equipment cleaning and

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

10. REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS ACT 1974 (EXCEPTIONS ORDER 1975) In September 2015 the Scottish Government made changes about what conviction information needs to be disclosed. Some offences must always be disclosed, some offences do not need to be disclosed and some offences must be disclosed in specified circumstances. The rules are complicated, so it is important you read the guidance below as part of making your application.
