In 1994, the founder of Nirma Industries and an

internationally famous entrepreneur Dr. Karsanbhai K.

Patel crystallized his long cherished dream of

providing world-class facilities for professional

education in Gujarat. He established Nirma Education

& Research Foundation (NERF), which in turn

established, on a 110-acre campus, six leading

institutions, Nirma Institute of Technology in 1995,

Nirma Institute of Management in 1996, Nirma

Institute of Diploma Studies in 1997, Institute of

Pharmacy in 2003, Institute of Science in 2004 and

Institute of Law in 2007. The establishment of the

Nirma University in April 2003 was a natural

consequence of the very high standards achieved by

the first three institutes. The first three Institutes

have now become Institutes under Nirma University.

institute. Various MoUs have been signed with the well known institutions such as IEEE, University of Southern California & Columbia University and industries like InspirOn etc. Many students carry out their major project in various well known and reputed institutes or R&D organizations in India. Student exchange programme with Top ranking International Universities may be floated soon.

To achieve our goals, faculty members also play a very vital role. We have very dedicated and talented faculty selected on the basis of the pool of talent and knowledge expertise. They are our key resources in nurturing the development of the students. Management takes sufficient care in the technical development of the faculty members. Special Induction Programmes are conducted for the fresh Faculty members. M.Tech. and Ph.D programmes in various engineering disciplines have laid foundation for various research activities. Students are also motivated to take research project in the areas of their interest. Technical conference and research activities have become a regular feature on the campus. Post graduate students have presented their research papers in national and international conferences in India and abroad. They have also won number of prizes at various events. International Conference NUiCONE has become a regular feature of the institute organized every year to appreciate the research acumen amongst the faculty and the students.

It is indeed a matter of great pleasure to announce that the institute has been ranked in the list of top Engineering Colleges across the country, published by magazines like India Today, Outlook, etc. We strive to make Institute of Technology, an institution of international repute and we are moving slowly and steadily to achieve that goal.

Dr K Kotecha

In a short span of 16 years, Institute of Technology, a constituent of Nirma University has been functional in achieving its goals, set by a great visionary Dr. Karsanbhai K. Patel. His extraordinary foresight and leadership skills motivated everyone at the institute and the university on a whole to work hard to reach this Herculean task. It is indeed a privilege to be a part of the institute.

We have a very wonderful infrastructure, adequate to run all the courses, offered by various departments and conducted by the university. We have lush green lawn, taking the institute to the laps of the nature and good laboratory facilities to provide good technical exposure with latest equipments and hardware/software. There are various events organized by the various student bodies in the institute round the year. These events are conceptualized, designed and executed by the students only. These all skills lead to a healthy development of creativity amongst the young minds. It is one of the methods by which we try to achieve the goal of the institute. The resources of the institute are used for such activities.

It is said that the “Pain of Discipline is better than the Pain of Regret”. As our University mission statement reads, we at the institute give highest importance to discipline and behavioral aspects of the students. We want our students to be recognized as the best individuals and good citizens serving the society as well. Students are encouraged to organize various programmes meant for the illiterate and poor people. This includes activities like teaching and exposing them to the health related features, knowledge of computers etc. Our students themselves take initiatives and organize such events.

Institute of Technology is a leading institute offering

multi disciplinary undergraduate, postgraduate and

Ph.D. programmes in engineering. The institute is a

constituent of the Nirma University.

Located in peaceful and sylvan surroundings, about

15 km from Ahmedabad Railway Station, it is also

easily accessible from the state capital Gandhinagar.

A disciplined, serene and pleasant environment

envelops the campus. It blends beautifully with the

green landscaping, aesthetic elegance of arches and

the vibrant pursuit of knowledge by the young

aspirants. The academic ambience gives full scope

for group activities, which are plenty, as also to

individual pursuits for development on preferred

tracks.

The institute shares the Nirma University campus

with five other institutions: Institute of Management,

Institute of Pharmacy, Institute of Science, Institute

of Diploma Studies and Institute of Law. All have

distinguished record of achievements. Students

joining the Institute of Technology have therefore, an

opportunity of interaction with the academic

community of the entire Nirma University complex.

The academic environment generated by the

interaction between professional disciplines has a

stimulating influence, especially in the formative

years of young students. Exposure to such

environment helps the students to develop good

communication skills, an integrated personality and

greater competitive spirit.

The dedication and commitment with which the

students and faculty have worked over the past

fourteen years have paid rich dividends and this has

made the institute the most preferred one among

the student fraternity. The students of this institute

were consistently securing top ranks in examinations

when it was affiliated to Gujarat University. The

performance of a student in the examinations is not

the sole criterion of the quality of education

acquired; nevertheless, it is an important indication

of the effectiveness of the academic inputs.

Introduction, Scope and Objective of Programme

The recent advances in electrical power systems have enormous impact on the way of power generation

transmission and distribution. The worldwide power sector is in the process of reforms through deregulation and

restructuring. As a result the environment faced by electric utilities and their operating procedures have changed

drastically. Extra high voltages are necessary for transfer of bulk amount of power over longer distances. The

modern electrical power system is in the form of a large interconnected network for economy and reliable

operation. For system interconnections between two or more independently controlled AC networks, HVDC links

are preferred due to technical and economic superiority over equivalent EHVAC transmission links. With this in

view, post graduate (PG) programme in Electrical Power Systems was started in 2010.

This programme focuses on imparting education in the field of Electrical Power Systems viz Advanced Power

System Operation and Control, Modern Power System Protection and Switchgear, Extra High Voltage AC and DC

Transmission System, Power System Stability Studies, Analysis, modeling and simulation of power system

equipments/ components, Substation Automation, Restructured Power System etc.

Introduction, Scope and Objectives of Programme

Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is the use of wide range of computer-based tools that assist engineers in their

design activities. It involves both software and special-purpose hardware. The capabilities of modern CAD systems

include reuse of design components, ease of design modification and versioning, automatic generation of

standard components of the design, validation/verification of designs against specifications and design rules,

simulation of designs, finite element analysis and automated design of assemblies etc. Development in CAD

results in real-time process simulation and Computer Numerically Controlled manufacturing. Integrating

Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) with Computer-Aided Design systems which are the part of the CIM

produces quicker and more efficient manufacturing processes.

The curriculum has been designed in consultation with expert academicians, industry experts and researchers

keeping in pace with the present technological developments and industry needs. The programme is conducted

Introduction, Scope and Objectives of Programme

CIM developed primarily in response to the demands of the market for more product variety, better quality and

lower price. CIM is the integration of the total manufacturing enterprise through the use of integrated systems

and data communication. It is the umbrella term under which CAD/CAM, Flexible Manufacturing (FMS) and

Computer Aided Production Management (CAPM) find a place. Development in CIM results in real-time process

simulation and Computer Numerically Controlled manufacturing. It involves both software and special-purpose

hardware. Implementation of CIM in any organization results in tangible and intangible benefits such as higher

profit, increased productivity, reduced inventory, customer satisfaction, higher employee morale. The course is

helpful to learn Optimization of various manufacturing processes using Finite Element Analysis, Design and

optimization of various tooling used in manufacturing processes, Developments and integration of CAD and

CAM, Development of process planning and production management systems using advanced methods like

neural networks, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms, condition monitoring and fault diagnosis, design for

manufacturing and design for assembly.
