They will create a poster to spread awareness of the issue. Students will understand the fundamentals on how to create a graphic design for the project. Students will have a knowledgeable understanding of issues going on in our world today by researching topics. Art Production Concept(s): Graphic design Teaching Strategies: Introduction: Teacher will discuss project concept and go over different topics with the class. Work Session: Students will research topics they are interested in and answer questions from the worksheet. Artwork Making Session: Students will work on designs for their posters on Pages & Photoshop. Critique Discussion Creative & Critical Abilities, Behaviors, & Skills Students will Enhance: Students will understand serious issues going on in our world today from researching topics. Students will expand their creative thought process. Students will comprehend how to make a graphic design. Students will practice skills in Pages and Photoshop. Students will develop skills on how to layout a design. Standard: 1.4 Aesthetic Responses & Critique Methodologies: All students will demonstrate and apply an understanding of arts philosophies, judgment, and analysis to works of art in dance, music, theatre, and visual art. Indicators: 1.4.5.A.3: Demonstrate how art communicates ideas about personal and social values and is inspired by an individual’s imagination and frame of reference (e.g., personal, social, political, historical context).

Non- Art Standard (Social Studies)

Standard: 6.1 U.S. History: America in the World: All students will acquire the knowledge and skills to think analytically about how past and present interactions of people, cultures, and the environment shape the American heritage. Such knowledge and skills enable students to make informed decisions that reflect fundamental rights and core democratic values as productive citizens in local, national, and global communities. Indicator: 6.1.4.D.11: Determine how local and state communities have changed over time, and explain the reasons for changes.

Planning

Day 1: Introduce the project and discuss examples of different issues. Students will research topics and answer questions from the worksheet.

Day 2: Students will take pictures for their poster. Homework will be to take more pictures for their poster.

Day 3: Students will work on using Photoshop and Pages to create their poster.

Day 4: Students will continue working in Photoshop and Pages.

Day 5: Students will present their work and the class will critique each student’s work.

Adaptations/adjusting activities: The teacher will discuss the lesson with the students that were absent. Students that are done can take pictures in class or go on the website thekidshouldseethis.com. If some students are behind in their work the teacher will give the class a catch up day. If students cannot complete work on catch up day they will have extra time to work on their project after the next lesson and discussion.

Modifications for Students w. Learning Disabilities: Student will receive more time if needed to complete work. Teacher will communicate with aid and provide step-by-step help throughout project. Teacher will provide worksheet of steps.
