Introduction

Power

When asked to find pictures that display power, it really got me thinking. I started to realize that there is a lot more to power than I thought. There are more types of power than I imagined. There is power when it comes to automobiles. Some cars are really powerful and fast. If a car is really fast then it has a lot of so called, “power”. Also money has a lot of power. If somebody has a lot of money then they have power and respect. Another example of power would be a light bulb because if the light bulb is lit up then you know that there is power through electricity.

Another symbol of power would be leaders such as Hitler and Obama. These people have/had the power of authority over their countries. Along with freedom comes the power of our Army. The U.S. Army is arguably the strongest military force in the world, which makes our army very powerful! There is also a physical power that can be obtained by working out. Muscles are a great symbol that someone is physically powerful. Another great symbol of power would be social media and news. These are sources of media that are public and they can tell everybody whatever they want to. We would never know if it isn’t true. Overall I learned that power is a very broad topic, even more so than I thought. This is why I did not narrow my search because I think it is important to realize how many different kinds of power there are!

Yes or No? How so?: The message doesn’t change because anybody who looks at a GT500 knows that it is a very powerful and fast car.

ParadigmPiece:

This is a digital image of Adolf Hitler. It was originally published in the Jewish Virtual Library. I found this image on Google images. It is unclear exactly how old this image is but I think it was published on this website in 1997. The main point of this image is to show the power and control the Hitler had over Germany. It portrays that Hitler is in total control of the army that is walking beside his car.  Agent:

This image was taken from an article written by Robert Wistrich. Robert Wistrich is the Neuberger Professor of European and Jewish history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.  Receiver:

The primary audiences are Germans or those who looked up the biography of Hitler. No I would not consider myself a part of the intended audience only because I do not have any reason to study about people who had a lot of power. I do believe that what Hitler did to the Jews was wrong but I have to admit that he was a great leader. He got almost all of Germany to follow his commands even though it consisted of killing millions of people. To me that is a great leader because he did what other people probably couldn’t have done! Agenda:

Capturing Hitler as being a good leader shows the bias in this piece. He is obviously shown as a powerful figure when you look at the image. Whoever took this picture thinks that Hitler was a good leader and caught him at the perfect moment when he was leading his people.

Page 18: Power By: David Whitaker. Another symbol of power would be leaders such as Hitler and Obama. These people have/had the power of authority over their

Demands:The piece is showing that Hitler was a figure/symbol of power. If anything, this

picture should persuade people that Hitler was a good leader even if it was for the wrong reason. Inquiries:

I would be curious as to who thinks this picture shows Hitler at a time when he had a lot of power. I want to know what time period of Hitler’s life this was taken at. My intuition tells me that the person who took the picture was German and they must have been important enough to get in the position of taking this photo.  Gains:

I already knew that Hitler was a good and powerful leader and this picture just confirmed what I already knew. This piece did not really enhance my life in any way. Motivators:

The agent sponsored this piece because he was writing a biography on Hitler’s life. I found this piece because I wanted to find a picture of somebody who had power and Hitler was the first person that came to mind. I found the picture on Google and then proceeded to click on the source that it came from and it brought me to the biography that was written on his life.

TraceText:

This document is a digital image. This image is unique because it is not a picture of physical power but it is a picture of somebody who represents power. This image is special because it is the President of the USA and that relates to me. This is a picture of Obama giving a speech to a large audience. Reader:

The intended audience is Americans or those interested in authority figures. Yes, I am a part of this intended audience.  Exigence:

The authors involvement in the argument is that they believe that Obama is an authority figure.

Page 23: Power By: David Whitaker. Another symbol of power would be leaders such as Hitler and Obama. These people have/had the power of authority over their

Inquiries:I want to know whether or not they agree with Obama being

an authority figure. Do they think he has a positive influence on the public or a negative influence? The information in the article tells me that the source is trying to be biased and is doing a good job of not showing his bias. This is not attempting to sway me from my original belief because obviously Obama is an authority figure. He has the highest position in America and it doesn’t matter if he has a good or bad influence on people because whatever he says, goes.  Motivators:

The event that persuaded the author to write this article was the Immigration Reform. I found this article because I did a Google image search for Obama and when I clicked on the picture it happened to be an article from the New York Daily News.
