ELON UNIVERSITY DEVELOPS NEW SOLAR POWER FACILITY Loy Farm Houses New Solar Electricity Farm (Elon, N.C.)—Elon University will build a new solar power farm on a 15-acre space at

Loy Farm along South Oak Avenue. The university teamed up with the solar power-

focused company, Suntuity, to create the new system. The farm will start producing

power in two months.

Elon University focuses on sustainability, and this new system will save power

throughout the region. It will generate 4,500 megawatt hours of electricity annually. This

will power 415 homes every year and will prevent the creation of over 2,100 metric tons

of carbon dioxide emissions.

“This solar farm is the latest example of Elon University's major commitment to

sustainability,” Gerald Whittington, Elon’s Senior Vice President for Business, Finance,

and Technology said. “The university's sustainability master plan provides a

comprehensive and multifaceted approach to protecting our environment, and we are

proud to add this solar facility to the campus.”

ELON UNVERSITY BUILDS NEW SOLAR POWER FARM  

Elon University strives to become a “green” university, and it teaches its students ways to

become more environmentally conscious. It currently has working solar panels on one

academic building, one dining hall, and four residence halls. Elon’s Environmental

Center at Loy Farm contains agricultural plots and a composting facility to teach students

the importance of creating a natural environment.

Elon University’s new solar farm will provide power for the surrounding area and teach
