Tenebrae A Service of Shadows Please join us this Wednesday, March 28 at 7:00 pm for our Tenebrae Service! Tenebrae is a meditation on Christ’s suffering. Read-ings trace the story of Christ’s passion and the power of silence and darkness suggests the drama of this momentous day. As lights are extinguished, we ponder the depth of Christ’s suffering and death; we remember the cataclysmic nature of his sacrifice, and through the return of the small but persistent flame of the Christ candle at the conclusion of the service, we anticipate the joy of ulti-mate victory.

Good Friday A Day of Fast & Abstinence Þ Everyone 18 years of age and under 59

years of age is bound to fast on Good

Friday.

Þ On Good Friday, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other smaller meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige.

POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER INTENTION

FOR MARCH

Evangelization: Formation in

Spiritual Discernment That the Church may appreciate

the urgency of formation in spiritual discernment, both

on the personal and communitarian levels.

From the Pastor’s Desk... The Holy Week We begin the Holy Week with Palm Sunday. During this week, we see Jesus reaching the climax of his mission. Let us try to understand the meaning of the main events we commemorate in the life Jesus during this week.

Þ Palm Sunday: The day is called both “Palm Sunday” and “Passion Sun-day.” According to Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem reveals his identity as the Messiah. Let us welcome him as our Messiah into our lives.

Þ Holy Thursday: This day the Church celebrates the wonderful gift of God to her and the entire world – the institution of the Holy Eucharist. The Eucharist is the food that God has generously and providentially made available to us in order to nourish us on our spiritual journey. According to Pope Francis, “The Eucharist is not just a weekly way of celebrating our faith, but should radically affect our relationship with others, especially with those most in need.” On this day Christ demonstrated his humility by washing the feet of his disciples. So we are invited to follow the example of Christ’s humility.

Þ Easter Triduum: It literally means “three days” or “period of three days” beginning from the evening of Holy Thursday to the Easter Sun-day. Easter triduum of the passion and resurrection of Christ is the culmi-nation of the entire liturgical year. Good Friday is the most somber day of the liturgical year. It is the day our Savior died for us. It is the day we were redeemed from our sins by the voluntary death of God Himself at the hands of man. Easter is not simply one feast among others, but the "Feast of feasts," the "Solemnity of solemnities just as the Eucharist is the "Sacrament of sacraments" (the Great Sacrament). St. Athanasius calls Easter "the Great Sunday" and the Eastern Churches call Holy Week "the Great Week."

Let us all try to observe this Holy Week as holy as possible by devoutly partici-pating in the services meditating on the salvific moments in the life of Jesus. It is all a great mystery of love and mercy. Julian Norwich, an illiterate woman who had visions of the passions of Jesus wrote about the merciful love of Jesus. She said: “Then our good Lord asked me: ‘Are you glad that I suffered for you?’

During this week, Jesus asks each one of us the same question that He asked Julian Norwich, “Are you glad that I suffer for you?”

Prayer: Jesus, I am what I am because of your suffering, death and resurrec-tion. Strengthen me to remain in your love. Amen.

I wish you all a Blessed Holy Week.

Mary, Queen of Angels, pray for us.
