Pregnancy: What Should I Do if I’m Gaining Too Much Weight? Take a Walk! Physical activity is good for you and your baby. Walking and exercise can help you slow down weight gain, have a healthy pregnancy, and can make your delivery easier. Talk to your doctor to find out what kind of exercise is safe for you. With a few small changes, you will be able to get on track with healthy weight gain. Talk with your WIC staff if you need more information or support. WIC is here to help. Eat Smart Tips for slowing weight gain: Eat slowly and take time to enjoy your meals. Eat smaller portions, and stop when you feel full. When eating out, look for healthier choices like grilled chicken sandwiches, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Cut down on greasy and fried foods, like pizza, fast food, desserts, and chips. If you are craving sweets, eat fresh fruits or smaller dessert portions instead. Choose skim or 1% milk, cheese, and yogurt instead of regular dairy products. Limit sauces, like salad dressing, sour cream, butter, gravy, and mayonnaise. Try lower fat versions, or use fresh herbs, spices, lemon juice, or salsa for added flavor. Keep fresh fruits and vegetables on hand for easy snacking. Trim the fat and remove the skin from meat and poultry. Pick lower fat meats like chicken breasts, fish, and lean beef more often than higher fat meats. Bake meats instead of frying. Be smart with your drinks. Drink water most often. Limit sodas, juice, sweet teas, or other drinks with added sugar. Examples of healthy snack or meal choices to slow weight gain. Pregnancy: What Should I Do if I’m Gaining Too Much Weight?

Take a Walk! Physical activity is good for you and your baby. Walking and exercise can help you slow down weight gain, have a healthy pregnancy, and can make your delivery easier. Talk to your doctor to find out what kind of exercise is safe for you.

El embarazo: ¿Qué debo hacer si estoy aumentando demasiado de peso?

¡Vaya a caminar! La actividad física es buena para usted y para su bebé. Caminar y hacer ejercicio pueden ayudar a aumentar menos de peso, a tener un embarazo saludable y a facilitar el parto. Hable con el doctor para averiguar qué tipo de ejercicio puede hacer sin peligro.

Con unos pequeños cambios, podrá alcanzar un aumento de peso saludable. Hable con el personal de WIC si necesita más información o apoyo. WIC está para servirle.

Coma de manera inteligente Consejos para aumentar menos de peso:

• Coma despacio y tome tiempo para disfrutar de sus comidas. Coma porciones más pequeñas y pare cuando se sienta llena.

• Cuando coma fuera de la casa, busque opciones más saludables, como sándwiches de pollo a la parrilla, frutas frescas y verduras. Reduzca los alimentos grasosos y fritos, como pizza, comida rápida, postres y papitas.

• Si tiene antojo de dulces, más bien coma frutas frescas o porciones más pequeñas de postre.

• Elija leche, queso y yogur descremados o de 1%, en lugar de productos lácteos regulares.

• Limite las salsas, como aderezo para ensaladas, crema agria, mantequilla, jugo de carne y mayonesa. Para un mejor sabor, pruebe salsas bajas en grasa o use hierbas frescas, especias o jugo de limón.

• Tenga a la mano frutas y verduras frescas para bocadillos fáciles.

• Quite la grasa y la piel de las carnes y aves. Compre carnes con bajo contenido de grasa, como pechugas de pollo, pescado y carne magra, más a menudo que las carnes de más alto contenido de grasa. Hornee las carnes en vez de freírlas.

• Sea inteligente con las bebidas. Beba agua más a menudo. Limite las bebidas gaseosas, el jugo, el té dulce u otras bebidas con azúcar agregado.

Su bebé necesita que usted aumente el peso adecuado para que él crezca fuerte y saludable. Si el aumento de peso es adecuado, el parto será más fácil para usted y recuperará más pronto el peso que tenía antes del embarazo. Hable con su doctor o proveedor de atención médica sobre cuánto peso debe aumentar. Si ha aumentado más peso del recomendado al comienzo del embarazo, quizás sea buena idea aumentar lentamente. El embarazo no es el momento para bajar de peso ni ponerse en dieta, pero puede empezar ahora a escoger alimentos saludables.
