Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
My Dear Parishioners, As the rush of the holiday season is here, I wanted to mention to you some events and their dates ahead of time so that you could hopeful-ly plan ahead for those that you would like to attend.
Our Dominican Sisters will be offering an Advent Evening of Recollection on Wednesday, December 2 from 6:30pm with Eucharistic Adoration, music, prayers and reflections by the Sisters. You may remember from a couple of years ago how beautiful that evening was. It would be an excellent way to enter into the sacredness of this time of year. That weekend on Sunday, December 6 at 1:15pm and 3:30pm, our World Youth Day pilgrims our hosting an exclusive pre-release screening of Full of Grace, the Story of Mary the Mother of Jesus. These pilgrims have brought other well done religious films to us in recent years. This one is unique in that it was all filmed in English, whereas the others were originally filmed in Italian and, there-fore, dubbed in English. Please support not only our youth pilgrims, but also these filming companies that are trying to offer us good quality religious movies. Advent and Lent are seasons to prepare ourselves for the most sacred liturgical celebrations of Christmas and Easter. One of the ideal was to do so is by purify-ing our hearts through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The following are all of the penance services offered in the area during Advent. We have no excuse not to make one of these dates! Jesus is awaiting us with his infinite mercy! St. Philomene: Wednesday, December 9 at 7:00pm Our Lady of the Assumption: Thursday, December 10 at 7:00pm St. John Vianney: Monday, December 14 at 7:00pm St. Lawrence and St. John the Evangelist: Tuesday, December 15 at 7:00pm St. Ignatius: Wednesday, December 16 at 10:00am and 7:00pm St. Mel’s: Thursday, December 17 at 7:00pm Don’t forget to mark your calendars for our St. Nick’s Breakfast all morning on Sunday, December 13. Take your picture with Santa and check out the Catholic Book Fair! Also provided by our school in Advent is their annual Christmas Pageant, the matinee of which on Tuesday the 15th at 10:00am is open to all parishioners. Lastly, the traditional celebration of “Las Posadas” is returning to our parish this year, which entails a reenactment of Mary and Joseph looking for an inn. We will process through the streets with Advent and Christmas carols and hymns, journeying back to the welcoming “inn” at the Immaculata for dinner, dessert, music, a piñata and more. The event will run from 4:00 to 7:00pm.
In Jesus, through Mary, Fr. Jeremy Leatherby

Deacon Lawrence “In these last days, he spoke to us through a son, whom he made heir of all things and through whom he created the universe” Hebrews 1:2
As the Church begins a new year we look to the beginning…and the end. The time of Advent is a time of preparation for the coming of the Lord, not only as a babe in Bethle-hem but also as the divine judge at the end of all things. The birth of Christ is the beginning of the end; God has spoken His fi-nal Word. All the time in between, from the incarnation to the final judgment is simply the time God has allowed us to decide, do we trust in Him or not? Do we accept Him or will we turn away? The Christ child comes with sword in hand; He is destined for the rise and fall of many. He comes to save the world but also to divide it. Whoever rejects Him and refuses to accept His words, will be con-demned on the Last Day. Christmas is not a festival of peace and good-will, it is a signal that God has come among us and now is the time for us to decide. Our part is to “be vigilant at all times and pray.” We have been told in recent weeks it is not for us to know the day or the hour. What is important is that we are always ready. This is our time of testing. Watch and pray.

Adult Faith FormationAdult Faith FormationAdult Faith Formation Why are some RCIA participants being dismissed
in the middle of the Mass? This Sunday during the 10:30 Holy Mass, those adults preparing to be baptized into the Catholic Church will be dismissed at the end of the Litur-gy of the Word. This will continue each Sunday until Easter when, at the Easter Vigil, those who are ready will join us at the Table of the Eucharist for the first time. The parish is not sending them out because they are somehow “unworthy” to stay for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Though they cannot yet come to the table of the Eucharist, Mother Church still has an obligation to feed those who have entered into a relationship with her through the Rite of Acceptance which was celebrated recently. God’s Word is their only food during this period. Instead, the participants depart from the Mass with their godparents and sponsors (if available), and one or more RCIA team members, to discuss the Mass readings for that Sunday and to experience more fully the impact of the Scriptures in their lives. This time is known as “Reflection on the Word.” “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the one who belongs to God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

As we enter into the season of Advent, the
Altar Society will begin plans to decorate our
church for Christmas!
We will be seeking monetary donations of Poinsettia Petitions
during this Advent season.
Father Leatherby will offer the Christmas Vigil Mass for all the loved ones remembered with a
poinsettia donation.
For those who prefer a monetary donation, you will find envelopes in the vestibule specific to Poinsettia Petitions.
Simply write the name of your loved ones on the envelope, enclose your donation and drop it into the weekly collection baskets or drop it off at the rectory.
Often parishioners ask what the suggested donation amount is. We gladly accept any
amount you are able to give, however, the cost of a plant and gold wrapping is about $10.
Plant donations accepted week of 12/13 May we be guided by the Holy Spirit, through our Blessed Mother, as we strive to bring glory
to God in the beauty of the liturgy. Fr. Leatherby & the Altar S ociety thank you! Diana | 402.1028 | [email protected]
