I received a call this week from Bobby Doyle who has been our Sergeant at Arms for the
past 5 years. He has gotten a promotion at work and won’t be able to continue in the
position any longer. I want to thank you Bobby for all your years of service here at the IHC.
I am sure you will be back soon and hopefully will run for a position! At the time you became
a member, I believe you were the youngest one. Congratulations on your new promotion.
Thank you again Bobby.
On another note, Peter Doria has been appointed as the new Sergeant at Arms! Welcome
Peter! Donna Doria has been appointed as Meeting Receptionist. Thank you Donna!
We have the Dueling Pianos, Keys to the City with Jim Ciampi and Seth Holbrook, on Friday, September 29, 2017.
Jim Ciampi has shared with me that his complete 9 piece band will be performing at the end of the show for your
dancing pleasure. THIS IS AN ADDED BONUS FOR US. Pub Food will be available that night from 5:30 to 7:30
p.m. (Dinner price will be around $10.00 and we will have 4 or 5 items on the menu). This will be a fun-filled night.
ORDER YOUR TICKETS EARLY. THE SHOW IS SURE TO SELL OUT!
Another great thing happening at the IHC is the First Annual Italian Car Fest. We are in need of people to help with
this event. Please contact Jim DiBiase 207-767-2292 or Vinni Fiero 207-939-8306 if you can help on Sunday,
October 8, 2017. We are hoping for 50 Italian Cars to be showcased that day. We will be selling food and also
Italian pastry. Details of all this is on page 10 of this newsletter.
I would like to welcome our newest members to the IHC. They are Johna Doyle, Louis Savard and John Case.
Please enjoy what the IHC has to offer.
Yearly dues are now past due. Please remember to pay them so you don’t have to pay a reinstatement fee.
Thank you

SEPTEMBER ITALIAN MOVIE NIGHT Federico Fellini’s Classic
“Amarcord” Saturday, September 9, in the Cantina
At 6:00 pm enjoy a spaghetti and meatball dinner followed by the film at 7:00 pm. For those who want dinner, the price for the dinner is $8.00 for guests and $6.00 for members; the movie is free for everyone even if you don’t want dinner. Please call Jim DiBiase at 767-2292 for dinner reservations.
In this carnivalesque portrait of provincial Italy during the Fascist era, Fellini satirizes his youth and turns daily life into a circle of rituals of sensations and emotions. Adolescent desires, male fantasies and political repartee are set to Nina Rota’s music in this beautiful transfer of Amarcord. Movie is in Italian with English subtitles. Donations accepted to defray cost of DVDs. Join us for dinner and/or complimentary snacks and an award winning Italian film.
Cultural Committee News from Jim DiBiase
The IHC Library Subcommittee Notice that, if you visit the Library, as part of an ongoing task, you’ll find that we’ve placed books on the shelves in specific categories. They are in alphabetical order for those categories that have been entered into the index we are in process of preparing.
Italian Idiom for September: “Prendere lucciole per lantern” To mistake fireflies for lanterns This saying is used when someone has misjudged or misunderstood the situation. In English we might tell them rather less poetically that they’ve "got the wrong end of the stick".
The IHC Chorus will begin rehearsals on September 20 at 6:00 pm in the
Library for our annual Christmas Concert. The Concert is scheduled
for Sunday, December 17 at 2:00 pm.
New members are encouraged to participate in our chorus. Please join us in
the Library on September 20. It'll be a lot of fun!

Vinnie Fierro at 207-839-6782 or [email protected]. We expect thirty to fifty entries.
There will be no charge for entering a car and admission will be free. Each entry will receive a gift bag
and trophies; and plaques will be presented to the most popular cars in each category as voted on by
the attendees.

Calling All Gin Players . . . . Tournament starts Wednesday, September 20 . . . Beginners welcome!
Gin is coming back in September for any member that is interested in playing. If you have never played and may be a little nervous, we will have two sessions: Wednesday September 6 and September 13 at 5:30 pm. to teach or refresh anyone who wants to play the game. Come on down to the Cantina for some fun, plus it is a great way to meet other members.
The cost is $25 to join for the ten weeks; and if you are in the top nine at the end of the season, you will play in the playoffs.
The deadline for signing up and paying is before September 13. You can find me in the Cantina most early evenings or you can leave an envelope with your name/phone/email/money with one of the bartenders in the Cantina, and I will get it. You can also mail it to me at the Italian Heritage Center with my name on it. Please make checks payable to Brenda Berry. I really need to have a final paid count by September 13 in order to set up the schedule. If the total number of players is not divisible by 3 the last one or two players who pay will be substitutes.
I will definitely be available on Wednesday, September 6 and September 13 in the Cantina for teaching or refreshing.
The tournament will start on September 20 at 6:15. The tournament will run until November 29 with December 6 as the playoff date. There will be no gin the day before Thanksgiving. You can contact me at 773-1872 or 899-5149, or [email protected].
Looking forward to seeing you in September.

In case you didn’t know…... The Charity committee is a group of dedicated, hard working and generous
people. Collectively and with the generous support from the members of this center we have worked to raise
funds to help support charities such as Special Olympics, Center for Grieving Children, House in the Woods,
and It’s Still A Good Cause Thrift Store. The committee has also organized food/Christmas gifts/ monetary
donations to families in need during the holidays and in times of crisis.
Our first meeting for the fiscal year was Tuesday August 15th. We are looking for new and fresh fundraising ideas to continue
these good works in the future. If anyone is interested in joining the committee, please contact me or come to the next meeting
Tuesday September 19th @ 5:00 pm. We meet in the library monthly on the third Tuesday of the month.
The committee has decided to support The Make A Wish Foundation Back pack program again this year and we need
your help. The program fills backpacks for children to take with them as they travel with their families to fulfill the wish of a sick
child. There are many hours spent in cars , planes, trains and airports. These backpacks provide a wonderful distraction. We will
have a decorative box in the cantina in order to collect not only backpacks but crayons, markers, coloring books, pads of paper,
cards, card games, hand held or travel games and toys etc.. A full list of ideas will be on the box. We will be collecting items until
October 31st. Most, if not all of these items, are on sale right now which is why we have chosen to do this now. Any
help is appreciated.
On behalf of the Charity Committee, we would like to thank all the members and staff of the Italian Heritage Center for all your
past and continued support.
