MAMCOAANA SPIRIT WAS ALIVE AND WELLIN CINCINNATI
What is MAMCOAANA Spirit?ho knows? It can only be felt; it
is not to be described. There are nowords in the dictionary to describe it.
Is it the excitement, the exhilaration? Is it what somebody called the constantNew Year Eve spirit for all of fourdays? Is it the other 361 days of doingnothing, just anticipating what it will benext year? Better? Worse? Am I goingto meet those same nice people nextyear? Are the others going to be evennicer?
Is it Kulbhooshan Sethi's Chuglian? He is a real Mirasi. Is it RD:s jokes? What is he anyway? Is he an intellec-
tual? A sophisticate? A singer, a Ill~cian, a joker? How much did he earntelling jokes during Reunion?
Is the two days of rigorous G.I. CMEthe real MAMCOAANA Spirit? Orthose breakfasts and coffee breaks, din-ners, closed pizza store, over chlorinatedpool? What about the 8 A.M. executivecommittee meetings where the attendeesdon't even remember what decisionswere made?
Or the never-ending card games?Controversial motions in the generalbody meetings? Those huddled in a cor-ner teenagers? Game room? Little kidsrunning around? The elderly people get-ting disappointed because the Danisheswere finished when they reached a littlelate for breakfast?
Maybe the MAMCOAANA Spirit isMatta and Mallu, Gulati and Saini,Kapilas and Dangs, Satnam and Raman,Bisla and Goel, Chunttani and Thapar,Dhalla and Munjal, or all the other 350persons.
The grumbling, the yelling, the hug-ging, the kissing. The kissing? When?Where? Is it the non-stop dancing, thenon-stop eating, the laughing, the sing-ing? What about the Football Hall ofFame, and the King's Island Carnival, the shopping trip, the tennis, golf, othergames people play?
The trophies, the shirts (one day wewill spell correctly on our shirts!), thesunvisors, the brochures, the continuousflow of lemonade.
The endless streak of jealousy, the oldflames lighting up, the new flames burn-ing, some getting doused.
There is no defining of the Spirit.-From New Delhi to New York, fromMt. Airy Lodge to King's Island. It isunique. It is a classic. It is vintage. It isKohinoor. It is Thj Mahal. Whatever itis, it is to be felt. To be experienced. Itkeeps changing. Better and better. It ismercurial. Let's keep doing it. Nextstop: Newport, Rhode Island-for re-juvenated, New, Improved, StrongerMAMCOAANA Spirit.

MAMCOAANA is especially proud of having two AAPI conventionshosted back-to-back by MAULANIANS. Last year, the chairman was ourASHUIDSH GUPTA
.'
This is the seventh year of ourAlumni Association's ex-
istence. It has been a phenomenalexperience for all those who havebeen a part of it in any way, shape
~ or form. The organization hasspread to about 300 members, beginning from a mere five whohad an imagination and a dreamfor this kind of a group. Our re-unions are getting bigger, betterand merrier every year. Everyonewho participates takes homenumerous, unparalleled, nostalgicfeelings, after meeting with someof his/her old friends after manyyears. This year I met five of myclassmates after twenty-three longyears. There is no price tag forsuch an event. This year I was veryhappy to see many more newMaulanians in the reunion. I hopethat this trend continues.
PRESIDENT"S MESSAGEAs an association, we have
achieved many goals, yet we arealways exploring new input fromour members. This association
equally belongs to everybody, fromthe oldest class on down to the
youngest class.Therefore,I urgeeverymember
to comeforward and assistin anyway that he/shecan. Our associa-tion is a pathway to growth, through collective participation.Since membership is the backboneof our future achievements and
projects, I would like to requestevery member to make every effortto recruit at least one additional
member. This kind of unity andtogethernes~ allows us to feel as ifwe are a part of one, very bigfamily. Not only have we expandedin all directions, but we have a lotof networking among the existing
~ -
membership. Furthermore, we havea better understanding with theMamcos of India and hold goodworking relationships with them.
My personal effort would be tocreate a network or a phone linkbetween our children. So our
bonds can become stronger andstronger. The first youth's phoneand address Directory is due to beout soon. It can be periodicallyupdated.
The association always needsmore volunteers. I urge you to con-tact the designated person(s) in thefield of your interest and talent. With this in mind, we will achieveall of our goals.

A Blind DateOur friends from u.K. sug-
gested that the first week-end of August does not suitthem; they would like the datemoved upward so they can at-tend our MAMCO1\ANA Re-unions in a larger contingent. Some people objected. Thereasons: summer schools, children's camps, planning mid-summer programs and vaca-tions, housewife's dilemmas,India trips, etc., etc.
If you have a strong opinionone way or the other aboutchanging our Reunion schedule, please call the Secretary NOW,before we plan next Reunions.Remember, All India Institutehas their Reunion one weekafter us. We do have mixedcouples, we have to keep themin mind so that they can attendboth reunions if they so choose.
Some of us with childrenhave objected time and againabout MAMCOS Day inIndia-December 20. That ismost inconvenient for us in theU.S. Children get off fromschool around the 23rd andleaving for New Delhi on the18th of December is almost im-possible. Maybe MAM-COAANA can raise its voiceand get that day changed tosomewhere between Christmasand New Year.
