The Coomalie Council 2017/2018 budget was endorsed by Council at its meeting held on 20th June 2017 and reflects the Councils’ ongoing commit-ment to deliver to the community a service that is comparable with other Local Governments of a similar size, population and revenue base. Blue Light Disco
Coomalie Council has been supporting the Blue Light Disco Committee, after many meetings and careful organising, the first Blue Light Disco was held in August. The turnout was fantastic, the local Police and Night patrol were on scene to ensure we had a safe and fun Disco.
The attendees had a wonderful night filled with dancing, disco lights, pop up photo booth and a yummy sausage sizzle.

Coomalie Community Cricket Cup & Kids Cricket Cup
The Coomalie Community Cricket Day was a fun day, we did not receive the Team members required to play the game of super 8’s, however there were 11 kids and adults that were ready to play and we enjoyed a fun, no scoring match where even the
littlies were getting in on the action. The kids enjoyed the yummy sausage sizzle donated by Eva Valley Meats. We will be working closely with NT cricket in the future and I look forward to the next cricket event.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the match and thank you to the Blue Light Disco, the Rum Jungle Tavern and Eva Valley Meats for all your assistance, efforts and donations.
Seniors Month
Our Seniors had a fabulous time on our first trip into Crocosaurus Cove; where everyone enjoyed walking around Crocosaurus Cove learning about the natural wildlife found in all parts of Australia, as well as watching some fearless locals go into the cage of death with some monstrous crocodiles. After this we headed down to Darwin Trailer Boat Club where we all enjoyed a delicious lunch and a surprise birthday cake for one of the attending seniors.
On our second trip we headed into Cmax cinema where we watched the movie Homestead, followed by a mouth-watering Dinner from the Palmerston Sports Club.
I had an amazing time getting to know some of the Seniors in the Coomalie Region, thank you to all the Seniors for being a part of the program, it was lovely to meet you all and I look forward to seeing you all again for the Seniors Christmas function.

BATCHELOR MUSEUM UPDATE - September 2017
Batchelor Museum is open everyday from 10am—4pm
Located on the Corner of Tarkarri Road & Kirra crescent, Batchelor
Contact: Jan Hills 08 8976 7006
————————————————————————————————--
You may have noticed that the Museum has had a few trees cut down. We had intended removing a mahogany before it got any bigger plus the Malaena- of which part was dead. We were able to get a Community Benefit Fund Grant to complete these works. Over the Wet Season one of the native trees close to Block B died, and was a possibility to fall onto the roof-plus a danger to people. Then after the solar power systems were in place it was advisable to trim back the ironwood tree .In the interests of safety and economy we made up the extra amount to include the work whilst the contractors were on site.
With the new exterior paint the Museum looks very trim so we are pleased with all out-comes. Now the screens will go back on and these help to keep the rooms cleaner.
There have been good numbers of visitors to the Museum over the past two months so that is pleasing. We are grateful for the caretaking role that Greg and Kim have contributed for the past five months. They have enjoyed engaging in various activities in Batchelor, as well as spending some days enjoying the tourist interests in Darwin and Litchfield, Kakadu etc Another couple are coming to care take and there will be a brief overlap over next week-end.
I received some interesting enquiries via the Museum website and they come mostly by email; however phone and post also. A letter from a gentleman now living in Perth asks me to take a photograph of the memorial sign to the Royal Dutch Airforce KNIL 18th squadron- Mitchell B-25 bombers- who were based in Batchelor 1943-44. A friend told him it was at the entrance to the airfield and he had read it from his vehicle. I looked all around the area for this, and there is a cement support which has had a plate attached, alongside the roadway. However no one I have asked can assist me in locating the plaque. If anyone can provide information please would you advise one of us – Greg at the Museum, Denise, James or myself when in Batchelor. The older brother of my correspondent served in that squadron, and his daughter is writing a family history. They wanted to include the memori-al picture, so if you can assist with information it would help considerably.
The Museum will continue to open daily for September.
On Monday September 25th at 7:30pm Ted Egan will give a talk at the Museum about his new book on Gilruth - a great veterinarian and the first Administrator of the NT, and he was involved with Batchelor Farm. Guaranteed to be an entertaining night. Ask one of us for more details; see flyer on the notice board.
President,
Jan Hills
DONATIONS to BATCHELOR
MUSEUM
Whilst the Batchelor Museum is primarily an interpretive one, we have been given some wonderful display items. When you visit you will see the name on the ob-ject and the person who has donated it- some of the notices are yet to be done.
Items must be given permanently to the Museum and there is a form which we will have available- the format given to us from the Military Museum in Darwin, please be aware this is a common policy of museums.
Be proud of the Museum – it will showcase the unique town of Batchelor and will be a valuable resource to bring visitors from all over.
