PRESS RELEASE Toulouse, December 9th, 2016 The Air and Space Academy (AAE) has awarded its medals and its Great Prize for 2016, presented its new Board of Governors and its new Fellows and Correspondents This session is also the opportunity to present its new Board of Governors and new Fellows and Correspondents. This ceremony took place on November 25th at the Salle des Illustres at the Hôtel de Ville in Toulouse and met with a great success, over 250 people were present in this most prestigious setting. Medals Vermillion medal Since its creation by André Turcat, the Air and Space Academy has every year awarded medals and prizes at its Solemn Session. Contact : Patricia Segala – Communication Officer– Air and Space Academy [email protected] Académie de l’Air et de l’Espace – 1 avenue Camille Flammarion – Ancien Observatoire de Jolimont - 31500 Toulouse www.academie-air-espace.com – 05.34.25.03.80 The vermillion medal was awarded to the team responsible for the EGNOS system : - Didier FLAMENT, head of EGNOS and SBAS Division, project manager - EGNOS at the ESA navigation systems directorate, - Mariluz de MATEO, head of International affairs and SESAR coordination programme, ENAIRE (Spain), - Jean-Marc PIEPLU, head of EGNOS operation programme, European GNSS agency (GSA) Medals of AAE - Prof. Christophe BAILLY, Ecole centrale de Lyon, for setting up digital simulations that enable an analysis of aerodynamic noise of aircraft - André BORSCHBERG, chief executive officer, co-founder and pilot of Solar Impulse, for his flight between Japan and Hawaii on Solar Impulse; this flight, lasting 117 hours 51 mins, constitutes the world record for solo flight without refuelling. - the CONSTELLIUM team, for their realisation of the new aluminium alloy AIRWARE®, now present on new aeronautical programmes : Timothy WARNER, knowledge director and metallurgy Group manager, Research & Technology, Alireza ARBAB, project manager, Research & Technology and Bruno CHENAL, Constellium strategic innovation director. Great Prize Awarded to Fabrice BRÉGIER, president and chief executive officer, Airbus, for his decisive role in the excellence of the A350 XWB programme, notably the delivery in late 2014, as promised, of the first plane in this new family of aircraft, a –900.
