Seton hall athleticscapital campaignWith a tradition of nationally-ranked teams in both men’s and women’s sports, All-America and All-Academic recognition for our student-athletes, and a growing number of alumni garnering headlines in the professional ranks, it is an exciting time to be associated with Pirate Athletics.

Seton Hall University Athletics is embarking on its first major comprehensive campaign to raise funds for essential student-athlete facility projects and renovations, and we are reaching out to our loyal alumni and friends for your support of our Pride & Excellence campaign.

The first phase is already underway, with a new athletic training room scheduled for completion in May 2013. The next step will be the construction of the Charles W. Doehler Academic Center for Excellence, followed by new locker room facilities for all of Seton Hall’s Olympic sports, a committed space for the Seton Hall Athletic Hall of Fame and enhancements to historic Walsh Gymnasium.

Your generous support of the Seton Hall Athletics Capital Campaign will play a key role in the continuing advancement of our entire athletic program and in the lives of more than 250 young men and women who wear a Seton Hall uniform.

about the campaignThe Seton Hall Athletics Pride & Excellence campaign will contribute to the athletic department’s vision for the future of Pirate Athletics by giving the university the necessary resources to undertake major construction and renovation projects, improving facilities and providing additional resources for all 14 varsity programs.

In addition to allowing alumni, fans and supporters to leave a lasting legacy through named gifts and donor recognition opportunities, the campaign will also support the overall goals and values of Seton Hall athletics:

• Provide each student-athlete with quality educational opportunities• Renovate and upgrade athletic facilities• Provide the university and our coaches with the opportunity to

recruit talented student-athletes• Ensure that our student-athletes have the opportunity to succeed

in the classroom and on the playing fields

HOW is this different from the Pirate Blue athletic fund? For many years, the Pirate Blue Athletic Fund has been the primary driving force behind Seton Hall University’s continued growth in athletics. Pirate Blue provides resources necessary to ensure Seton Hall student-athletes the opportunity to achieve their maximum academic and athletic potentials. However, Pirate Blue contributions make up only 25 percent of the department‘s annual operating budget, and the competitive landscape in college athletics has raised the bar nationwide.

Pirate Blue annual support is still critical to the Athletic Department’s success. Capital giving is an additional opportunity to support Seton Hall’s athletic programs.

Universities must continually improve their facilities to attract elite student-athletes and produce nationally-ranked teams. The financial support provided by the Seton Hall Athletics Capital Campaign will enable us to pursue major capital projects on a regular basis, while the Pirate Blue Athletic Fund will ensure that our student-athletes have the opportunity to succeed in the classroom and on the playing field.

We all work so hard as student-athletes, and it’s so rewarding to see that the university works just as hard to make sure we have all the resources we need to succeed.

It’s so important to have the support of alumni, friends and family. I’m so grateful to the members of Pirate Blue and all the supporters of Seton Hall athletics for their generosity.

COMPLETED PROJECTSWe’ve been busy on campus making improvements to our athletic facilities in the last year. Thanks to private donations to the Pirate Blue Athletic Fund, upgrades have been made to our basketball locker rooms and to all coaches offices. A new scoreboard was also installed at Owen T. Carroll Field for baseball and soccer.

Men’s BasketballThe men’s basketball locker room underwent a major facelift in 2012. Extensive improvements to the facility resulted in a renovation of nearly every space, including upgrades to the film room, lounge, kitchen and lockers. The new locker room now features hardwood flooring with the Pirate emblem prominently displayed on the center of the floor.

Mahogany lockers provide ample storage space and feature unique branding. Individual leather seats, emblazoned with the SHU athletic logo, are the highlight of many improvements to the meeting and video room. The carpeted lounge area includes a large leather sectional sofa and a new big-screen television.

Women’s BasketballThe women’s basketball locker room received logo-branded

furniture and a redesigned lounge area with new hardwood floors. Renovations also included the addition of flat-screen televisions. The coaches’ offices also received some upgrades with historical graphics throughout the entire space, and overall improvements were also made to the athlete locker area and team meeting room.

Owen T. Carroll Field ScoreboardA new multi-purpose LED scoreboard was installed on Owen T. Carroll Field in March 2013, replacing previous scoreboards that dated back to 1974. The state-of-the-art display is equipped with cutting-edge graphic and video capabilities.

The recent construction around the Regan Center has been a huge positive change for the university. I’m really looking forward to using the new fitness center and getting our very own locker room for women’s soccer. The athletic department is clearly dedicated to giving us the very best facilities in which to train ... and to win.

CURRENT Projects Upgraded facilities and other capital projects provide our coaches and student-athletes with the necessary resources to compete at the highest level on a national stage. Donors can contribute to the Seton Hall Athletics Capital Campaign with a lead gift for a new project or through a naming opportunity for a current facility. In the fall of 2012, we embarked on what will be nearly 20 million dollars in new athletic facility projects.

Fitness CenterPart of a comprehensive modernization of the The Richard and Sheila Regan Field House, the new fitness center will provide first-rate exercise opportunities. The two-tiered facility will offer expanded fitness and programming options while featuring an augmented space dedicated specifically for SHU students, faculty, staff and recreation center members.

Both the first and second floor will be lined with brand new cardio equipment – treadmills, elliptical machines and stationary bikes – each equipped with individual viewing screens. The cardio stations will be oriented to allow the SHU community to take full advantage of the building’s revamped exterior, looking out onto Seton Hall’s historic South Orange campus.

The first floor will also include a variety of circuit weight training options and a new reception and office area designed to enhance member relations. In addition to the second cardio station,

the top floor will contain a space designed for free weight training and a pair of dance and fitness studio multi-purpose rooms, each slated to be in excess of 1,100 square feet.

Athletic training roomScheduled for completion in May 2013, the new training room will serve as a cutting-edge, on-site medical facility exclusively for intercollegiate student-athletes. An expansion of the old training center will add state-of-the-

art equipment, including three 14-foot, in-ground Hydro Worx tubs – including an underwater treadmill – that will supplement and greatly enhance rehabilitation efforts. New treatment areas, tables and taping stations will also be installed in a room that will prominently feature Seton Hall athletic branding. In an effort to make first-class care as accessible as possible, offices for the Pirates’ physicians are also in development.

FUTURE Projects (in need of funding)

With the support of alumni, family and friends, the Pride & Excellence campaign will provide state-of-the art facilities for Seton Hall student-athletes. We already have several projects in the planning stages, and we are actively looking for help in funding these critical initiatives.

Charles W. Doehler Academic Center for Excellence

Named for Seton Hall alumnus Charles W. “Chuck” Doehler, former baseball coach, long-time administrator and loyal contributor to Pirate Blue who mentored countless Pirate athletes, the proposed Academic Center for Excellence will be a highlight of Seton Hall’s commitment to the success of its student-athletes both on and off the playing field. The new space will feature a main study area, two group meeting spaces, two private tutoring rooms and offices for the department’s full-time academic advisors.

olympic sport locker rooms

The next project on the horizon is the construction of 11 brand-new locker rooms, creating dedicated spaces for each team for the first time ever. Once completed, all 14 of Seton Hall’s varsity programs will have their own rooms, which will be customizable according to each team’s

specific needs. Situated along a central hall and decorated with Seton Hall branding, the new rooms will feature individual lockers, televisions and coaching areas.

Athletic hall of fame

To celebrate our rich tradition of success, we want to create a permanent area to recognize the members of our athletic Hall of Fame. Initial designs involve the conversion of an existing space in the field house into a multi-purpose area that could

be used for informal gatherings while also commemorating top players and teams throughout history. With moveable display cases that provide additional flexibility for the space, exhibits will feature photographs, awards and memorabila from Seton Hall’s most unforgettable moments.

I chose to come to Seton Hall because I knew that I would have the opportunity to succeed in the classroom and on the court. I am excited for the new Charles W. Doehler Academic Center for Excellence, since it reinforces that the athletic department is as committed as I am to getting the most out of my education and my time at Seton Hall.

– Brandon Mobley, Men’s Basketball

Enhancements to Walsh Gymnasium

A future phase of the Pride & Excellence campaign will be enhancements to historic Walsh Gymnasium, beginning with remodeling the seating areas throughout the gym. We will also add a state-of-the-art scoreboard and video board. Other improvements will include upgrades to the sound system and lighting and various branding opportunities.

team Video Room

Plans are also underway to create a dedicated video room for use by all of Seton Hall’s athletic teams, which will be available for meetings, lectures or watching game film. The room will feature 40 custom leather seats with Pirate athletic branding and a projection system with surround sound.

How can you help?Together we have the ability to help Seton Hall athletics continue to excel by funding this campaign. Make an individual gift, or consider joining with friends, classmates or fellow supporters to make a combined donation. Any amount that you choose to give will help strengthen and shape the future for our student-athletes.

Matching giftsMany companies will match your gifts to Seton Hall University. Please consult the benefits office at your place of employment. You may be able to double or triple the value of your gift.

EVERY gift makes a differenceThis project can only happen through the generous support of donors at all levels. Please consider a gift to the Seton Hall Pride & Excellence campaign. Donors will receive permanent recognition in the Richie Regan Recreation Center and may also have the opportunity to name a room, locker or other space in one of the new facilities.
