TERM 2 WEEK 8 Tuesday 18th June 2019 Principals Report The weeks are racing along with many events taking place before the end of Term 2. Last week, I had the privilege of taking senior students down to Frederickton Public School to participate in one of the Debating competitions. All our Debating teams have been successful at these rounds and will now move onto the next level. Good luck to all the students competing, and also well done to Mr MacDonald who has prepared the children so comprehensively. Last Friday, all our staff and students watched children from Kindergarten to Year 6 compete in the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition. I was overwhelmed by the quality of the speeches from students in all year groups. We have so many talented Public Speakers in our school. Thank you to Mr Greenway for organising the event and congratulations to all the children who competed. On Friday 28 th June, all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will have the opportunity to participate in our annual MPS Athletics Carnival on the bottom oval. I encourage all families to support your children in participating in multiple events. Our canteen will be operating a BBQ on the day, plus there will be plenty of food and drinks available. This has always been a great family day at Macksville Public, so come along, make a day of it, support your children and cheer everyone on. TERM 2 WEEK 8 Tuesday 18th June 2019

Principal’s Report

The weeks are racing along with many

events taking place before the end of Term

2. Last week, I had the privilege of taking

senior students down to Frederickton Public

School to participate in one of the Debating

competitions. All our Debating teams have

been successful at these rounds and will now

move onto the next level. Good luck to all

the students competing, and also well done

to Mr MacDonald who has prepared the

children so comprehensively.

Last Friday, all our staff and students

watched children from Kindergarten to

Year 6 compete in the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition. I was overwhelmed by the quality of

the speeches from students in all year groups. We have so many talented Public Speakers in our school.

Thank you to Mr Greenway for

organising the event and congratulations

to all the children who competed.

On Friday 28th June, all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will have the opportunity to participate in our annual MPS Athletics Carnival on the bottom oval. I encourage all families to support your children in participating in multiple events. Our canteen will be operating a BBQ on the day, plus there will be plenty of food and drinks available. This has always been a great family day at Macksville Public, so come along, make a day of it, support your children and cheer everyone on.

Last Wednesday the Macksville Detonators

debated against Nambucca Heads Public

School. The Detonators are made up of Leo Woodward, Josie

Boxsell, Layla Parry and Bella Mulley. This debate was

adjudicated by Mrs Lissa Argue. The topic of this debate was ‘All

school work should be done on laptops’, the Detonators were the

negative team and took home the win with great rebuttals and

strong arguments.

The next day on Thursday, the Macksville Detonators travelled

with Mr MacDonald to Frederickton Public School, where they

took place in round two of debating. They debated against

Frederickton Public School and their topic was ‘All homework

should be banned’.

It was a tough challenge but they took home the win once again.

On that same Thursday, the Macksville Emeralds debated against

South West Rocks Public School. The Emeralds are made up of

Lilla Walburn, Alani Currin, Ella Hazelwood and Grace Stuart. They

were the negative team but made the mistake of preparing as

the positive team. It was only at the start of the debate when the

topic was announced again when the team realised the mistake

they had made. South West Rocks were good sports and allowed

The Emeralds to have an extra 15 minutes of preparation.

Amazingly the debate came down to the smallest of things and

with strong clear rebuttals, The Emeralds took home the win!

This week Macksville Public School students have been

outstanding in their achievements both on and off the

sporting field. The week began with the netball girls facing off

against South Kempsey Public School in their second round PSSA

netball clash. Our girls were dominant from the very first whistle,

not giving the girls from Kempsey South a chance to score some

early points. The swift attacking moves and strong defensive plays

made it near impossible for the South Kempsey team to even get

in the quarter required to score points. The girls were relentless all over the court with some very strong

combinations from some of our key players. The girls ended up

walking away with a solid win 28-3, which now puts them into the

third round on the knockout competition. They now await a date

for the next round against Crescent Head Public School. The girls

represented our school with great pride and sportsmanship and

their team work and positive attitude both on and off the court was

a real credit to themselves and our school.

Secondly, the Greg Inglis 7’s is being held this Thursday 20th June.

Eight teams of different age students from Years 3-6 will be out to

show why our school is very strong on the football field. The Gala

Day involves a combination of both tackle and Oz tag

competitions. We wish all our teams the best of luck at this

Gala Day and we look forward to hearing about the

wonderful results in the next edition of the sports report.

Finally, our athletics carnival approaches on Friday June 28th.

Our carnival convenor has been working very hard

finalising results from previous weeks’ preliminaries and

organising the students who have qualified for the finals of the

field events. He has also been busy quietly training out on the

track in case he is required to run in any relay races or fill any

empty lanes on the day of the carnival! We are looking

forward to all of our students attending this day and

participating in all the available running events. Please keep

an eye out in the newsletter for more information in regards to

the day. ~ Matt Greenway - Teacher
