Term 3 Week 9 Tuesday 7th September 2021. Principals Message Hats off to all our parents who are juggling the very difficult task of balancing your own work, life in general and supporting your children as they continue to learn from home. The Premier has detailed a clear pathway of when students can return to school: from 25 October – Kindergarten and Year 1 from 1 November – Years 2, 6 and 11 from 8 November – Years 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10. Depending on how our LGA is coping with Covid numbers, it may be that some schools will be permitted to open-up a little earlier. If this is the case, we will all hear via the regular 11am updates, and through the media. I will also keep you updated if I receive any news. In saying this, I can't see children back at school before the holidays. Please continue to encourage your children to engage with the online and/or printed learning material. We thank you for your efforts and for complying with the NSW Health orders to keep students at home. We are all looking forward to welcoming students back, when permitted. Mark Thomson Attendance Expectations Schools are required to maintain attendance data during the lockdown. To be marked as being 'present at school', we need to see that children at home are engaging with the learning from home material and taking part in the teacher/class catch-up sessions. If we are not seeing or hearing from your child through the week, it is our legal responsibility to mark the roll as absent and attempt to make contact with you. In these situations, teachers will try to call to see how you're going and to offer assistance to ensure your child/ren continue/s to learn from home. Just so you know, as our teachers are largely working from home, these calls will probably come through to you as an unknown caller. If you are having difficulties or issues, please reach out to your childs teacher who would be happy to help, where they can. PSSA Sport news Due to the impact of COVID-19 across New South Wales, the School Sport Unit has made the decision to cancel the following revised term four calendar events: NSW All Schools Cross Country Championship (primary and secondary) on Monday 18 October at Eastern Creek. NSWPSSA Primary Athletics Championship on Thursday 2 December and Friday 3 December at Sydney Olympic Park. As the District Athletics carnival that was planned to happen this term at Frogs Holla will not go ahead, I would like to acknowledge the strong team that would have represented our school. I'm sure we would have had many students that would have progressed to Regional level and possibly even State. I would also like to acknowledge Cameron who had qualified for NSW All Schools Cross Country and will not get a chance to compete. He is an outstanding runner and I am sure would have achieved a great result. We wish him all the best in his high school years for continued success in running together with his many other sporting codes. There are still some team knockout events that are postponed and not cancelled yet and we will keep you updated. Learning from Home Poem by Iluka (5M) I can see the glowing blue sky with seagulls diving down into the crystal-clear water. As I run across the burning sand on a beautiful sunny Australia Day. “Best Australia Day ever”. I scream while diving into the chilly water. As I dive down into the water, I could see blue bottles and dolphins gliding through the smooth water. As I came up for a breath, I felt my skin and hair crusting. I could hear the calm seas turn wild!

Stage 3 News Last week Stage 3 kids were making slime as part of their online learning. It was a messy one for the parents, but there was a heap of smiles online!

Canberra Tour Year 6 went on a virtual tour of Canberra last week. We checked out all the favourite spots such as the War Memorial, National Gallery, The Mint and of course Questacon. There were interactive quizzes, surveys and virtual tours of the buildings. Definitely no replacement for the real thing and no sleepovers with friends, but still really informative and interesting....We're also pretty certain that there were a few lollies being consumed behind closed doors...in true camp tradition.

CANTEEN NEWS

Canteen closed until further notice

5M celebrated last Wednesday in style during their Zoom meeting with students at home and at school dressed up for “Wacky Wednesday”. Remember this classic story from when we were kids?

1S students have been busily creating their transport models! Wow there are some amazing mechanical engineers at MPS. Super effort everyone and thank you to the parents who helped with the master pieces.
